October 23, 20177 yr This is going to be a tough game... looking forward to the matchup. Too bad this one isn't on prime-time. But we would lose non ND viewership as I'm sure OSU PSU is gonna be the top game.
October 23, 20177 yr Team has to put USC in the rear view mirror and concentrate on NC St of threre will be a lot of frowny faces on this site next week.
October 23, 20177 yr They lost to South Carolina and haven't beat one team of note to date. They have played bad teams close and we have blown everyone out, I expect more of the same.

October 23, 20177 yr Team has to put USC in the rear view mirror and concentrate on NC St of threre will be a lot of frowny faces on this site next week. Bingo. NC State has been very consistent on offense. ND needs to get after the QB and change their game plan, make them make mistakes. Team needs to learn to play through and ignore adversity. This team may not be Alabama but they did not get this record without being pretty darn good and a threat.
October 23, 20177 yr This game will be hugely telling in terms of the next step of progression. It's great to finally win a big game. Now the next step is not having a letdown the very next week against a very good team. Personally I think nc state is a bit overrated but that doesn't mean they aren't good and more then capable of pulling off the upset.
October 23, 20177 yr Any chance of a hangover after USC? I'm thinking we kind of had the trap game with UNC already. I think this team is rested and will be ready, but I just wanted to ask edit: Wanted to add a few data points and make a contribution =) FPI efficiency rankings Offense: ND: 9th NC State: 10th For comparison: USC: 32nd MSU: 75th Georgia: 13th Defense: ND: 7th NC State: 46th For comparison: USC: 41st MSU: 11th Georgia: 2nd Even though Georgia's defense is elite, I honestly think the fact that we were having trouble moving the ball on Georgia was more of an anomaly than an indication of what this team is capable of Edited October 23, 20177 yr by Franco
October 23, 20177 yr As Franco mentioned above, the NC State defense, though highly lauded in many circles, really isn't all that great statistically. Is this a stats don't tell the whole story issue, or a they have a great player so we assume they have a great defense story? I'd also add to his point that ND was in their second game with Wimbush vs Georgia and still had Canteen and Smith as starting WR. They've evolved so much since then and now know what they are good at. I don't think they'd score 40 on Georgia, but I don't they they'd throw it 40 times either.
October 23, 20177 yr I don't know what to think about NC State. They haven't played anyone good yet. Here is their schedule and scores so far: South Carolina - L 28-35 Marshall - W 20-37 Furman - W 16-49 Florida State - W 27-21 Syracuse - W 25-33 Louisville - W 25-39 Pitt - W 35-17 Their best win is probably Florida State but obviously they aren't very good this year. They might lose to BC this weekend. So this is a "prove it" game for both NC State and ND.

I mentioned in another thread that whenever ND beats a team, people will just start saying that "said team" wasn't actually any good to begin with...sadly, I think this will come full force if ND beats NC State...ESPECIALLY if ND beats them badly the way we did USC
October 23, 20177 yr I mentioned in another thread that whenever ND beats a team, people will just start saying that "said team" wasn't actually any good to begin with...sadly, I think this will come full force if ND beats NC State...ESPECIALLY if ND beats them badly the way we did USC It should happen, the are 6-1 because they're schedule has been putrid. I don't understand how a good team would lose to South Carolina and not take advantage of that cupcake schedule. Their talent does not compare to ours, they'd have 3 losses with our schedule and Saturday will prove that. FSU and Louisville are terrible! They are a combined 7-7 and their two best wins.
October 23, 20177 yr Hard to tell about how their D front will stack up against us from those clips. The play that looked like us was at the 12 minute mark. Otherwise, L-Ville spread the field and let Jackson run or pass. We are a power offense, something L-Ville isn't.
October 24, 20177 yr I think ND is clearly the better team, but this is a terrible spot. Coming off a huge win against your biggest rival and then playing a solid team, balanced team that doesn’t make mistakes. I just have a bad feeling that it’s going to be a frustrating game where Finley is completing back shoulder throws on 3rd and 8, controlling the clock and before you know it there’s 6 minutes left and it’s a tie game.

October 24, 20177 yr Author [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccmCP7Bws5U[/ame] The stats say you should be able to throw the ball on these guys, but the more I watch their corners they are in phase to they've given up a few long balls on good passes but its not like they are beaten by two or three yards, its like one yard and a perfect pass. Hope we are ready, this one has the potential to be a 4 quarter, tough, game.

Georgia just wouldn't be that good if we had won that game.
