Surprised no one has talked about this but wanted to see everyone's opinions. After last year we all wanted him gone but I think his staff was very bad and we caught some bad breaks. Kizer didn't help either.

To me it seems he does great when he's got a good staff in place and doesn't micromanage. Bad seasons happen to almost every program minus Bama and Ohio State.

I am glad we were patient unlike most of us because looking at college football there are so many bad coaches. We could have someone much worse and it just isn't worth the risk.

Again I'm not crowning him but last year was his mulligan and we all said he needed 9-10 wins this year to win us over.

Someone posted a thread how he had a year like 2016 at GVSU and then after he went on his tear. Maybe he needed the humility again, because I have this feeling the program is about to become a perennial top 10.

Finish the job.

The win against SC was awesome and so, so satisfying...but NC State looms and then the pressure builds every week. Have to finish the job, then, in a karmic retribution for the ages...get to the CFP and face down the evil empire.

IF this ND team stays on the trajectory its on...and I can't be the only one to notice how much these players LOVE Brian Kelly...in meetings, at practice, on the sidelines, in the locker room..IF we can stay the course, then this COULD be an all-time ND team, one that us old timers debate and rank with '64, '66, '73, '77, '88, '89, '93, '05, '06, '12...not all championship seasons, but all memorable campaigns...this one has a real chance to top them all for me because it is unexpected and that makes it somehow more important to me that this team fulfill its destiny.

Go Irish,

Beat Wolfpack!

Yes absolutely my feelings have changed. Im not saying I'm all in but he put his ego aside and made real functional changes this off-season that have paid off. I have to give credit where it's due, now I'm not saying give him a 10 year extension but id say the program is in good hands moving forward.

I truly am just enjoying the ride. What a great suprise this season has been! I think NC state will be our toughest opponent except Georgia. If I were Kelly, I would show the BC game after ND bear Florida state, or other games where we had a let down. Drive home the point that we have looked good, but don't look ahead. I love this team! Most fun I have ever had watching a team.

Side note" I don't think ND can beat USC by running alone "- Doug Flutie

I'll say that my feelings on Kelly have shifted a bit.

I jokingly said before the season that the best thing for ND would be for Kelly "not" to coach as the head coach. Now, obviously he is involved, but he is letting the other coaches coach and they are pretty good at it.

He's a politician at heart. I think his best role is to manage the team, recruit some talent, keep a coaching staff in tact and hand the reins over to the position coaches. Seems to be working wonders so far.

I don't know if he made the changes, or if he and Swarbrick made them, but this team looks fantastic.

Kelly has to finish the job this season and put more than one good season together. However, so far this team looks more like what I consider "Notre Dame Football" than any since the Holtz era. They are physical on both sides of the ball, decisive, run the ball well, have big play ability, are tough in the red zone on both D and O etc.etc. There should be no reason it doesn't carry over into next season if he can keep his staff in place.

I couldn’t help but notice the parallels last night to the title game. 28-0 at half. Then 42-14. Then we tacked on another and usc conceded.

This season was what I was expecting in terms of win loss. It’s not what I was expecting in terms of dominating opponents.

Elite teams exploit every little mistake their opponent makes without making any mistakes themselves. That’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re playing the best football I’ve ever seen Notre Dame play. And I’m confident we’re going to keep winning.

The worst case scenario is what is happening at asu. Where Todd graham was told he has one more year, the team loses some bad games and now they’re winning. So nothing changed, but they’re forever mired in mediocrity.

After last year we all wanted him gone .

wrong. i did not

He finally surrounded himself with a real coaching staff instead of the posers that kept showing up year after year.. For that, I will give him credit and therefore you look brilliant....:-)

im not crowning him KING yet, still a long season ahead of us.

but i still think hes one of the best coaches out there and im not sure who'd id rather have besides Meyer or Saban

Me either. And when he made the hires he made, especially Elko along with Lea and Blias for S&C I knew he was putting it all on the line to change things or else,,,,,,,

No, but I am changing my mind about Swarbrick. He took all the control away from Kelly and forced him to do different things. Also, Swarbrick hired his own coaches outside of Kellys coaching shrub.

He changed Kelly's role from CEO to middle management and it appeared to work brilliantly.

Lol I love how you say this like it's absolute fact, you have no idea if this is what really happened. You just hope that's the case because you can't accept that Kelly might've done something good. You created your name out of hatred for Kelly and could never give him even an ounce of praise

I jumped off the Kelly bandwagon last year because I thought he had simply run his course and that he'd move on to another school, but I think it's pretty obvious he's the best we can get and he's going to lead us to some competitive football campaigns before his time here is over.

Have my feelings about BK changed??? Heck no.

I feel Kelly was forced to make the changes made, the little man had to shallow his enormous pride and he was forced to admit to himself that he was not the 2nd coming of Christ.

So you want to hire a timid head football coach that second guesses all of his decisions?

Playing devils advocate..

He was forced to make one change, and that is also pure speculation on all our parts. He made tons of changes not only to the staff but to himself too.

We can do much worse and we have.

They haven't proven anything yet. And I really hope Kelly chamges my mind

Bwahaha people who legitimately have higher IQs dont have a reason to inform anyone of it...

I give him credit so far. But just as it took me a long time to jump off his bandwagon to the point of wanting him gone, I am being very reserved about jumping back on the BK train.

With that being said, I am really impressed with the job so far. The players look energized and focused. They are stronger and faster and in extremely good condition. We are playing ND football and are physically dominating teams. This is what I grew up on in the 70’s and 80’s every time I watched us play.

Let’s see how the rest of the season goes. Our society is so fickle and changes opinions day to day. I’m happy BK and the team are haunt success so far. Let’s keep it going and finish the season 11-1. That’s what great teams do.

Very happy so far and rooting for BK to continue to take it to another level.
