THIS is what it feels like. No team on your schedule "scaring" you. Dominance in practically every phase of the game. Hell the only thing missing was a kick return for a score. Having that feeling that multiple sacks or interceptions were not only likely but "how many in this game?" The sigh of relief when the QB chose to break out of the pocket. Wondering how soon the head coach was going to take the starters out and feeling a little disappointed when he did because you really wanted ND to "break them". You didn't want the scoring to stop BUT you looked forward to seeing the defense pummel the other teams offense. You knew ND was going to force their will even to the point that the other team KNEW what you were going to do but was not able to stop it like the times we ran to the right 3 straight times and got multiple yards.

THIS is what the glory days felt like and it was year after year with a few National Championships sprinkled in there every decade. Yes, there were losses but you really didn't feel that bad about them because it was always some freak games and you KNEW, we were still elite and it won't happen again anytime soon. This is what it felt like and it was sweet. I just hope this isn't a mirage and we are going to build from here!

Amen Speedy. Been following since '88 Miami, at 13 years old. This IS Notre Dame Football and how it should be done. Strong run game that punishes opponents and pushes them around, with the occasional pass over the top that keeps them from always stacking the box. Dominant defense that pressures QB's into mistakes, turnover causing, stuffing the run. Notre Dame has never been a good finesse team, it is blue collar, hard nosed football. I've seen different folks over the years, including here, giving us old timers **** because this isn't 1988 or whatever anymore. Horseshit! Disciplined, hard nose, tough football will never go out of style, its why Bama is so successful. Please stop re-inventing the wheel and go with what is proven historically for us, this is ND football.

Yep! Amen brother!

I'm not quite there yet, but it does feel good to beat the crap out of USC...my first time seeing USC get completely dominated (only been a fan since 1997)

Yup. First game I saw played in South Bend was against USC, led by Anthony Davis. Thought it was supposed to be like that every game, year but alas...Last night was ND football of yesterday and FUTURE! GO IRISH!

Speed, I might add that while we knew losses would happen, we never felt it would happen this week, because we find a way to win. If we lost, it was truly an unexpected shock.

Yup, ND ALWAYS found a way to win.....

I have said since the Georgia game that this was the best team of the Kelly-era. You could see the talent on display for both teams in that game.

Last night was sweet...rolling out to a dominating lead...our guys flying around at will...

Dare I say, we are finally back?

What a great feeling watching us on prime time absolute pummel $c. And hey, michigan getting crushed as well was the icing on the cake..lol

This is truly the best I've felt about this program since holtz left. There have been some great seasons sprinkled in but never felt like they were really back. But this is different, just feels like they can compete with anyone. I expected to lose to osu in 2005, lsu in 2006, bama in 2012 and osu in 2015 but this season I'd be shocked if anyone beat us like that (aside from maybe bama, I'm not quite there yet)

Yeah I have to agree. There is just an air of confidence with the team and with the coaches that just hasn’t been there since Holtz.

And btw, Bama would beat anyone this year. They are just in a different league.

Cautionary Tale...November 1993.

The FSU win followed by the BC debacle...

I remain upset about the voting in that year's polls to this day, but I also vividly remember the comeback and taking the lead in that BC game so late in the 4th to only have my heart ripped out of my chest by that corkscrew kick.

Today I feel a small part of that hole was filled in by dominating the condoms like we have not seen since the glorious 13 year run of the 80's and 90's. The 49 points cleansed the experience of 2007 (attending the 30th anniversary of the '77 team with my future BIL and seeing that hideous beat down) and shook down the thunder one more time...my face hurt in the 4th quarter because the grin on my face was so wide and so pervasive...

Please, please, please...don't have a second BC experience, I don't know that I have enough years left in me to survive that again.

Go Irish,

Beat Wolfpack!

Moose, I was at that game. The year after I graduated. So painful.

I don't think they let down against NC State.. But I've been worried about them ever since I saw what they did to Louisville up front..

Are you comparing ND O-line to Louisville? The horror!!

Well stated, Speedster. Been around a long time like you and that is a very accurate description of how it was .....and will be again as this team is showing us all.

HAHA. No way Jose, but for the first time in 5 years I've been impressed with the O Line's effort, cohesiveness, and execution on a consistent basis (more than just 1 game against inferior opp). Those guys didn't miss many assignments inside and if they did miss an assignment they did a good job blocking whoever was around.

Bumpin this up because I've been experiencing something different from the past 20 years

As I peruse ESPN's comments section on every playoff article, something seems off

People are doing the following:

- Using ND as a yardstick for a good win and good team

- Fighting amongst themselves over how overrated a team is, and saying ND deserves to be ranked above them

- Pointing to how ND demolished another team that said overrated team barely beat

- People saying ND is overrated are 1) becoming fewer as weeks go by and 2) actually defended by fans of other teams

Was this what it was like back in the day? Now I know we didn't have internet back when ND was dominant, but I'm thinking the chatter would be similar to this

It is pretty fun to see the SEC boards defense how amazing ND is this year.

Well if anyone knows what elite, championship type football looks like lately....it's them.

I just got little goosies reading this thread. Thumbs up!

And by the way, it's not surprising SEC fans are defending ND - if it is determined a win against ND is the best win going right now, the SEC can conceivably get 2 teams in the CFP if UGA and Bama win out and meet in the championship game with the win only by a narrow margin from either team.
