October 5, 20177 yr I don't know if it's worth taking him out for cautionary reasons if he's not injured anymore. They could possibly lose or win a tight one against a 1-4 team or Ian goes nuts, throws 70% 300+ and you have another qb controversary

October 6, 20177 yr I expect Wimbush to start despite what Sampson reports..... But don't expect him to play for that long or run very often 21 to 3 in second quarter and BOOK COMES in to finish aloha
October 6, 20177 yr As I keep alluding to, there seems to be more to this story. When did he get hurt during the game to warrant a boot and likely not starting v. UNC? That's the deal. I can't recall it at all. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
October 6, 20177 yr Also, what is the latest on Adams and Williams? The closer we get to this game, the more we better prepare for Book and McIntosh. That's what I'm beginning to think. I know I'm being a negative nancy, just have a feeling, reading between the lines, that Williams, Adams, and Wimbush's injuries could be more than alleged. All you Book lovers may get your wish Sunday. Wimbush without a 100% foot is bad news. Frankly, if that is the case, I actually would prefer Book.
October 6, 20177 yr Don't forget about Montgomery Van Gorder. I've heard some sources say he reminds them of a past star - Tommy Rees. Could come in and surprise.

BK said he could have played more against Miami, but the game was already over at halftime, so they didn't want to risk him after he injured his ankle. I would imagine he gets the bulk of the carries against UNC. No idea about Dexter. We need him because Tony Jones has not been impressive at all, but his skill set requires him to be 100%. His speed and agility make him who he is, so if he isn't 100% healthy, then they should sit him and get him fully healthy for USC.

Thinking CJ Holmes may play this Saturday burning his redshirt. Pretty excited to see what he can do honestly. Sure Fedora would like nothing more than to upset us Saturday so we better be ready, especially in light of our health.
October 6, 20177 yr Don't forget about Montgomery Van Gorder. I've heard some sources say he reminds them of a past star - Tommy Rees. Could come in and surprise. Are you being serious? Um Book would start and then I wouldn't be surprised to see Avery Davis for real game action, not blowout action. Some said Davis looked the most impressive at times this fall of all the qbs.

October 6, 20177 yr As long as we win, I would like Book to get as much game experience as possible. The way Wimbush runs the more prone to an injury he is and at this point, he's our 3rd leading rusher. Chances are good he'll be out a game or two and we NEED Book to be ready for real game speed and action.

October 6, 20177 yr Why would we play this kid (Avery Davis) this year? Am I missing something?Because he's a better option than VanGorder if need be. Only if Wimbush and Book were unable to go. Kelly has shown little regard for redshirts and we have Jurkovec and McNamara on the way.
October 6, 20177 yr He didn't get hurt during the game, it was during practice.Do you have a link or source for this? Just wanting maximum details. Thanks.
October 6, 20177 yr Book is a more relaxed, confident and stronger passer than Wimbush. Maybe not in pure arm-strength, but Book sits in pocket, doesn't have happy feet, doesn't seem anxious with ball. However! When you are starter and lights are on it is a bit different coming in up by 30 points with basically zero expectations or worries about making mistakes. But game plan shouldn't change too much. RUN THE BALL. And honestly, I think Book can still hurt people with his legs.

Not to say Book couldn't do it, but starting a game, on the road, with whatever playoff hopes ND has, is quite a bit different than mop up time vs. Miami, OH. Maybe he has icewater in his veins and is a stud, but maybe he throws a couple of bad picks in the 1st quarter, UNC gets confidence and it's a whole different game.
October 6, 20177 yr Do you have a link or source for this? Just wanting maximum details. Thanks. According to Kelly, Wimbush told Kelly after the game that he hurt it during the game. The walking boot is really not that big of a deal. They are very common as a precautionary measure and recovery aid.
October 6, 20177 yr My biggest worry if Wimbush can't play is that our run game will suffer due to the lack of explosive running threat at QB (they won't spy him) and our Red Zone scoring will suffer as well as the less mobile Book is less apt to be able to make something out of nothing and is not as talented a runner.
October 6, 20177 yr just hand the ball to whichever RB is in the game and have him run it up McGlinchey and Nelson's asses.

Book is actually pretty damn athletic. You lose big play ability because Wimbush is probably the fastest guy on the field most of the time, but Book is plenty fast and shifty to productively run the football, both in the option game and in scrambles.
