Seems like there are better games this week across the board, but still no really great matchup to look forward to, although I think the Thursday night game between Louisville and NC State could potentially be really good/interesting for ND. The Miami and Stanford games should also be pretty interesting. Those three teams could boost our SOS significantly with big wins this week. Maybe add Michigan State - I don't think Michigan has looked like a Top 10 team this year, but I also don't think MSU is very good.

Notable Games:

#17 Louisville at #24 NC State (7:00PM/ESPN - Thursday)

#3 Penn State at Northwestern (11:00AM/ABC)

#13 Miami at Florida State (2:30PM/ESPN)

#23 West Virginia at #8 TCU (2:30PM/FS1)

LSU at #21 Florida (2:30PM/CBS)

Maryland at #10 Ohio State (3:00PM/Fox)

#1 Alabama at Texas A&M (6:15PM/ESPN)

Michigan State at #7 Michigan (6:30PM/ABC)

#11 Washington State at Oregon (7:00PM/Fox)

Stanford at #20 Utah (9:15PM/FS1)

Other ND Opponents:

Temple at East Carolina (11:00AM/ESPNU)

Wake Forest at #2 Clemson (11:00AM/ESPN2)

#5 Georgia at Vanderbilt (11:00AM/ESPN)

Bowling Green at Miami (OH) (1:30PM/ESPN3)

Air Force at Navy (2:30PM/CBSSN)

Oregon State at #14 USC (3:00PM/PAC12)

#16 Virginia Tech at Boston College (6:15PM/ESPN2)

NC State 39 - Louisville 25

Really big win for NC State. They should be 6-1 and ranked 15th-20th when they come to South Bend (their next game is at Pitt). Their defense looked great - Lamar Jackson's 354 yards passing are kind of deceiving. To hold Louisville to 25 points is pretty amazing (Clemson held them to 21 points). I was surprised at how good their offense looked. Ryan Finley looked really good, passing for 367 yards and a touchdown. Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines are both freaky athletic. This is going to be one of our hardest games, especially as it comes after the game against USC and they will be coming off a bye.

Nice week for ND as far as future opponents go. Miami’s last second win vs FSU was huge. They could easily be 7-0 and a top 6-8 team when they come to South Bend.

Barring injury to key players the Irish have a double digit win-caliber team this year. I think it is realistic to start discussing this team’s chances of sneaking in the playoffs if they win out. They are a top ten team in my opinion.

Top 10 team??? Not yet. The Irish need to keep beating up the cupcakes on the schedule BUT they need to start beating the ranked teams they have left.

When the rankings come out for this week's games the Irish will be ranked 15-17.....again their schedule is holding them back.

Michigan state will be ranked if this score holds.

Best team not named Alabama has been Georgia.

I think our body of work is as good as anyone's around #10

Msu is probably the 6th best team on our schedule and they're our best win, love what I've seen so far but a long way to go.

We didn't beat Michigan state as badly as the score reflects. They beat themselves pretty badly. At this point, Michigan state looks better than Stanford.

With that said, you have a good point, but we're talking about at this juncture, Notre dame has shown they're a better team than they're getting credit for.

Miami coming through today.

ndomer4, care to revise your opinion about Miami yet or retract your inaccurate prediction?

"Miami did not impress me one bit and Walton is slow and didn't seem like a threat to me, he had 3 yards a carry for crying out loud. FSU will beat them,"

Can you please now show Richt and this program some respect? I already told you there victory at Duke wasn't a fluke, and now they have proved you wrong again. We NEED them to be really good when we visit later this year.

I still don't think Miami is all that, they won the game on basically the last play. If they didn't make a third down late they were gonna attempt a long field goal to tie. Could have lost very easily and they haven't beaten anyone good yet.

They are good though and I'm glad they won but not sure why you want me to respect them so much. I was glad they won but they have two tough games before we beat them.

Also lets go MSU! That might turn out to be a pretty nice win.

Dare I say Alabama doesn't look unstoppable today.

No. Lol. Georgia - Alabama is going to be a national title game in the sec title game. And Alabama will win.

I take the other side of the coin here and argue we forced their mistakes.

The goal line TD was a hustle play by our ball-hawking D.

ND isn't getting the credit it deserves up to this point in season.

ND has smashed all foes except the new No. 3 or 4 team in country by ONE POINT.

Yeah we also played very conservative in the second half. I think we score more points if we keep running our three headed monster in Dex/Adams/Wimbush.

Stanford up on Utah looking to get back into the top 25, I think we end up ranked #17 or 18.

Agreed. Alabama player makes a play like Crawford hadand it shows how physically strong they are and how great they are. Us it is just a lucky play and that the team beat themselves. We are a actually pretty good and if bw can figure out the passing game we are going to be really tough to outscore with how well the d has been playing.

Their defense is pretty darn good. Again, you insinuated in a previous thread the only way ND makes the playoff is USC or bust (literally your exact words.) You keep saying Miami will lose, but they keep winning. I simply cannot fathom how you cannot see this could be very beneficial to ND. It seems as if you don't understand this and still saying nothing positive about them at all.

Do you realize how high Miami will probably move up after OU and Michigan's home losses today?

Do you realize that their 2018 class is ranked #2 nationally by nearly every national recruiting site currently?

Do you realize that if ND and Miami run out that the winner will probably go to the playoff?

Keep doubting them. I sure won't, and I would be ecstatic if both teams are undefeated when we play them. Richt has Miami on the up bigtime currently, and they aren't going away anytime soon.

Yeah I did say that but I also was hoping they would beat WSU and roll into South Bend in the top 3. Fortunately it looks like we will be playing ranked teams in Miami, NC State, and Stanford after that game.

I'm glad Miami won, let's just hope they beat GT and VTech! If they do we are going to expose a top ten team!

Thank you for stating that you're glad Miami won! Makes me feel much better about your posts. I know you're a true Irish fan or you wouldn't be on here all the time like me.

For the record, I don't view Miami as a legitimate title contender, however I do view them as a team that could be vital for our playoff hopes which was the subject of a thread you had previously initiated.

Alan Lazard, former ND recruit, helped ISU beat Oklahoma.

The catch he made to win was with 2 Sooners draped all over him. Literally felt like the catch should have never been made at that moment. Heckuva play by a heckuva player.

It was a great play. I really wanted him to pick ND, but his dad played at ISU and it's down the road from home for him. He's Floyd like in his build and is a really good WR who plays for a bad team. I think he'll do good when he goes pro.
