October 2, 20177 yr I was a little confused reading that. So Sampson confirmed Wimbush has a foot injury just does not know the story behind it?
October 2, 20177 yr I was a little confused reading that. So Sampson confirmed Wimbush has a foot injury just does not know the story behind it? Correct. I'm sure Sampson has heard rumors about what happened but he cannot confirm the source of the injury. Hopefully its just a precautionary measure and if he misses time, at least UNC isn't very good and we have a bye week immediately after.

I would like to see him after a fer series when he gets in a rhythm. He will be needed before the season is over. Very few running QBs make it through the season without getting beat up some.
October 2, 20177 yr Tom Loy said it isn't anything major, FWIW. That was until he edited his post, and said he was talking to some more people. Seems like there's more and more smoke to this rumor.

October 3, 20177 yr I can’t believe this is not getting more attention. I just hope it is nothing major.
October 3, 20177 yr I actually think the offense will be more effective with Book. The running game is all about Adams and Dex, if Book plays because of injury he might not come out. He's accurate, anticipates and has some moxie. Db's shouldn't be able to cover Claypool, Boykin, and ESB. I saw guys running open all game but I didn't see the ball being thrown to them.

I've probably been the biggest critic of Wimbush on this forum, but I'm not so sure that the offense will be more effective with Book Perhaps he just needs to get into more of a rhythm, but he hasn't shown much even in the unusually extensive (for ND) garbage time he's been getting this season

Sure, but you also have to account for how defenses will adjust with Book playing. Right now, ND is getting a lot of man coverage because they have to devote so much to stopping the run game. WImbush is like a second RB that needs to be accounted for. How does that change if Book is playing?

How does that change if Book is playing? Yeah Wimbush can make plays on the ground but when teams stack the box like Georgia that stops. Plus it's very worrying that he couldn't get in a rhythm vs Miami of Ohio. Our receivers were wide open and he was either not seeing it or not throwing it. I think teams would still stack the box but would soon stop when Book makes them pay. We would see more zone but I don't think that hurts the run game much and will probably make us go to more of the screens and short passes which have been getting blown up in man.

This whole "stack the box" thing is a bit overblown. Every team has tried to stack the box vs ND. The only team that was able to make it work was Georgia. They make it work because they have the best LB corps in the nation and a top 10 pick at DT. No one else ND plays has that. Obviously Wimbush needs to improve as a passer if ND is going to be as good as they are capable. But even if teams "stack the box", ND is still going to run for a lot of yards as teams need to account for Wimbush/RB and the numbers are still in ND's favor, even against 8 in the box.

We only ran for 182 vs MSU on 4.6 yards per carry.

October 3, 20177 yr Some of you guys need to be careful what you wish for with wanting Book to start/play. I'm not trying to knock Book by any means, but there's a reason Wimbush is starting over him right now. While we may not need Wimbush against UNC, although I don't want to go into this game thinking it will be a cakewalk, we will need Wimbush against USC's, Miami's, and Stanford's of the world.

Josh Adams gets big runs because of stacked boxes. Ask Mike Elko from his days at Wake.
I doubt it means anything major but its concerning.
