We must be careful because the temptation is to expect to much from Wimbush to soon. I know we lost 1 game by 1 point but check these numbers out.

Everett Golson

August/September 2012 4 games

http://www.cfbstats.com/2012/player/513/1040900/total/split.html

4 games 641 yards passing -11 rush yards total 630 yards

Brandon Wimbush:

3 games: 490 yards passing 314 yards rushing total 804 yards

Brandon Wimbush has outgained Everett Golson over the same time period by 174 yards in one less game.

Your link didn't work for me.

Im not sure why you compared 4 golson games to 3 for brandon? Golson was pulled in 2 of those games.

I think people put too much stock in our run game because it works versus lesser talent. I can throw a football farther then most junior high kids. It would be foolish for me to think i have a cannon.

As for the stats, split stats are done by month usually. A month usually has 4 games, sometimes 5. Why I used 3? because as of today Wimbush has only played 3. He already has outgained Golson and likely won't lose yardage against MSU.

As for strength of schedule or Golson getting pulled

Are you telling michigan 2012 was better then Georgia 2017 Navy better than Temple, Purdue better than BC I'll give ya, not my that much.

I'm expecting a pretty good jump in passing stats this week. I think the game will slow down a little bit for Brandon and just listening to him he is pretty confident that he will start connecting. I also am pretty happy that Claypool will start this week. Canteen just hasn't done a thing. So much hype about the athleticism of this 6' 5'' athlete. We now have three 6' 5'' starters with plenty of high school accolades. Mack is supposed to be the #1 tight end in his class. Truly expecting well over 100 yards this week.

Canteen had a Labrum tear in his shoulder, that will sideline him for the season. Your point still holds that Claypool has a good frame and needs to keep improving.

Wimbush passed better in the spring game but missed some Easy ones high, they need work on his balance so he's not quite so wide with his feet so he doesn't throw leaning back.

They are quarterbacks--not running backs. I like a qb that can run but i expect a qb to be able to pass. Hopefully he improves but i am concerned. I trust my instincts.i posted several times before the season about something being off with the wideouts

In his freshman year, Lamar Jackson only had 1840 yards passing. He turned ok. I'm just urging more patience.

If Wimbush was a freshman like Jackson or a Sophomore like Golson I'd agree with you. I'm more just baffled that Junior can't seem to make the throws.

Now I'm no QB expert, but I've heard on multiple podcasts/sources that I trust that it's Wimbush's lack of fundamentals/mechanics that is causing him to be so inaccurate. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems less and less likely that a Junior is going to have a big jump in his mechanics as opposed to a Freshman/Sophomore.

I never thought Golson was that great a passer. Mainly, because he was too small(height wise). Jackson still isn't that great IMO. So far, like Wimbush, a big game comes he gets erratic. We'll see if Wimbush can become calmer and take charge when he is needed. Jackson disappears on the big stage.

I am surprised at the impatience too.

He's only a junior who was a former stud in high school playing at the University of Notre Dame... Yeah, I wouldn't want to expect too much out of that guy...

I've seen a lot of ND QB's. Perhaps it's because Kelly is such a passing

coach-and people just love passing- but I've never seen a guy who has (a) set a school rushing record for his position in his 3rd start, (b)has led the offense to 15 for 15 in the Red Zone with 6 rushing TD's and © led his offense to two 49 point performances get this kind of criticism. Everybody wants him to be a 70% passing QB as well, I get it. But he's overachieving his predecessors by a mile in other areas, which people want to ignore.

Hey, you can't beat the drum of ND of old and then preach patience. :)

Great points. I wonder how many QB's in Notre Dame history set multiple records in their first three starts and still had fans unimpressed.

The answer is of course, all of them.

Clausen set the record for being sacked.

Not all records are worth twerking over.

It showed his grit and toughness though.

The question is, who was the last ND QB who was universally praised for his entire career?

Excellent question. I don't seem to remember people bad mouthing Mirer. I could be wrong though.

Umm tommy rees.

I think the recipe for beating nd is focusing on the run.

I don't think brandon can punish them for doing so. I thought we were a 9-8 win team. I think his lack of passing can cost us a game or 2.

I should say I'm not impressed with the wr's either so that's the problem area for me.

Who knows, we might have the Next Tim Tebow. But your right any change from the norm creates criticism, we've had guys who conform to the pass first mold for a long time.

This is different and exciting to me. So I'm embracing it.

Once upon a time this was very different wish we would have embraced it then.

Different can be pretty cool, that's why I try embracing it over criticizing it.

Who is that coach at :32? I wonder if he'd want to coach at ND, he looks pretty good sending in the QB.
