MSU a very big game to us, to MSU, to Kelly but NOT A VERY BIG GAME to anyone else....

For us this is a tough and critical test

MSU only allowing 200 yards of offense per game albeit to bowling green and WMU

MSU featuring a nifty running QB a new challenge for Elko and the defense, I believe like Wimbush the MSU QB set the record for longest run from scrimmage by an MSU QB

Defense and a tricky run game----

A FORMIDABLE CHALLENGE for the Irish

WHAT ARE THE STAKES IN THIS GAME.

For us they are sky high......

A loss here and we fall to 2-2, any glow we got from running over weak teams will be GONE GONE GONE!

Our schedule will look that much harder and 7-5 will start to look like a STRONG POSSIBILITY.....

A win here and with Miami of ohio coming up , we will be 4-1 when USC comes to town

We will be 4-1 and back into the top 25

We will be 4-1 and playing a USC team that likely will be riding a 14 game win streak and be a TOP 3 team

We will be 4-1 with a top 5 team coming into south bend and with only a 1 point loss to Georgia marring our record...

Maybe we can't beat USC but if you look at the stakes ONE THING IS CLEAR

IF WE BEAT MSU IT WILL BE A GATEWAY FOR A HUGE NATIONAL GAME

One of those wonderful opportunities ND looks for to break the LONG WIN STREAK

A chance to go 5-1 and see a low number in the rankings

It may only be a chance but coming off a 4-8 season we need another chance to WIN THAT BIG GAME they are hard to come by

MSU TO US IS HUGE!!

Its our GATEWAY to the big game likely our LAST CHANCE in 2017 to work ourselves into a big national game!

interesting analysis Hawaii, BK and MSU have made for a weird series. Who'd ever expect MSU to beat you on a trick play? When MSU is good--we beat them and when they are bad--they beat us.

It's a gateway game for sure and at this point I see 8 wins as our ceiling. Going the whole season beating the teams we should would feel like making the playoffs.

Beating MSU makes our game versus usc an big game nationally. After an embarrassing crowd at for the UGA game I am not looking forward to an embarrassing on field performance. Maybe we work out the kinks by then but the big stage is not where our team is comfortable.

I don't want to lose to MSU if we did I think we'd play better against usc. If I had to pick a team to beat I'll take usc.

I like our team and players but they are not there yet. It's almost like a first year coach introducing his system to guys he didn't recruit.

Good perspective post Hawaii. Well done!

Agree, if we lose this and win out till USC it just won't be a big game. Us and USC need to win out before we play to make it a huge game. This is our only shot at the signature win that BK and this program sorely need.

That is unless Miami turns out to be good however I wouldn't bank on that. This USC team is very beatable, we will have them at home after a bye and they will likely be a top 5 or 10 team.

Lose to MSU and this team will end up with 7-8 wins, I think we beat them handily though.

Nice job, Hawaii. This game is hugely important to the rest of the season

Don't forget the Irish travel to Chapel Hill after the Miami(Ohio) game

Thanks Hawaii, now I'm looking forward to beating Sparty.. I use to hate these guys, but we've pretty much owned them recently..

I agree that the msu (and nc) games could make or break the season. Lose to 1 of those 2 and we are unlikely to get a win out of USC Stanford or Miami and are looking at 7-5 potentially 6-6. But win those 2 and I think 9 even 10 is possible

Assuming USC is going to win their next 4 is a mistake. I could see them losing before they get to South Bend. They have not looked overly impressive thus far. The Stanford win does not look nearly as impressive after their loss over the wknd.

When MSU is a crappy team, they usually beat us, and then go on to lose 4 or 5 games in a weak Big 10.

We never know which team is going to show up; for both MSU and ND.

Every d!ckhead trojan friend I have is very scared of a trap game at Washington State. Some are scared of Cal this weekend, but not too much. They're really lucky to not be playing Oregon or UW this time around. They look very beatable right now.

After the hose job with Georgia we have no room for error if this is going to be a special season. I think we get it done. They have two weeks to prepare but this early in the season I'd rather play a game. I really like how we are subbing in so many fresh legs. Hope it isn't close.

If I were the coaches I would play tape of them planting the flag on our field, the fake field goal and just about almost any crowd shot when we play them.

Agreed. This is a very important game. We lose, and things could really snowball and get ugly. Like 7-5 ygly.

I've always hated playing MSU...They're Big Ten boring...Their colors blow, they're boring, and I could give a f***... Nothing about playing MSU has ever excited me, even when they were somewhat good. They're boring and I was hoping the two bday parties I was going to on Saturday would conflict, but no... They won't and I feel obligated to watch, even though we have no passing game because our quarterback is about as accurate as a three year old with a rifle shooting 100 yards down range...

like 4-8 ugly.

I have a much different feeling about this years team compared to last years. Hardly any offseason drama, new coaching staff, and overall just seems like a much better focus. I look for this to be a statement game for the rest of the year. We have the talent to push MSU around. Either way by the end of the night we’ll know what kind of team we have. Go Irish!

He’s also the fastest quarterback ND has ever had. I know some of you love the doom and gloom outlook, but Wimbush is going to go down as being a very productive quarterback for us. We don’t need him to be Peyton Manning. I think the coaching staff learned last week that if they are going to score a lot they have to let Brandon run.

Yup I'm convinced one way or another we'll know the type of team we have this season by the end of tonight

I'm the opposite. We have had some great games with MSU. After the 1966 Game of The Century they fell off a little, but the games since Holtz left have been great. I was at MSU in the late 80's/early 90's when Holtz beat them in a great game. There was they Arnaz Battle game. The Herb Haygood game. The flag planting game followed by the epic comeback game in 2006. The Little Giants game-though a loss- was an epic gamble. These games often go down to the wire. I hope their off the field problems have hurt them so that tonight is not close, but I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't another competitive game.

We’re good. This is probably going to be a 10-3 season. Big win tonight that proved a lot of people wrong. Whether or not MSU ends up being a good team they always play us tough and we dominated them. Also Georgia looks really good.
