Notre Dame sorta forced EG into being a pocket passer and to some extent malik zaire.

It seemed like by halftime of the BC game the coaches accepted the fact that Wimbush is way behind schedule in the passing game and let him do what he did in high school which is use his feet. He's not going to have pretty stat lines that's where he is more comfortable and that's what matters.

The QB situation around here has been nothing short of a tire fire. You can't get production out of your top qb recruits and your after thought qb recruit declares early for the nfl.

Cant win big games when your QB cannot throw, no matter how great of a runner he is.

May see Book coming in on obvious passing downs and wouldnt surprise me if Jurkovic started Day #1

Alabama thought they could with Hurts and when it mattered most he failed. Need to be able to throw the ball a little to keep other teams honest.

Jurkovic looks very, very impressive. Just about every team in the country, including Bama and the rest of the SEC, wanted him.

Smart player and a great passer. If a freshman could start it would be Jurkovic.

Wimbush is much bigger, stronger and faster than Golson. He's is dfferent than Zaire because Zaire saw himself as a passing QB first. He was more finesse than Wimbush.

I could care less about comparisons though. ND wants Wimbush to be more balanced than he is, but he's not there yet. So, they bludgeoned BC with Wimbush's running along with Adams. Smart.

So you like the game plan today?

Golson is a better passer than Wimbush. Wimbush, clearly a better runner. We never really saw what Zaire could do. None are D Watson so doesn't really matter

Kelly's offense puts a ton of pressure on a QB. I know it's a pressure position everywhere, but it's just something about BK. He's not a good QB developer plain and simple. Kizer knew he'd probably be better off with NFL tutelage than staying another year under spazzie. Kelly takes his time and is generally better with young QBs ala Golson, Kizer, and to some extent Tommy in their first year. Just because BW is a junior doesn't mean he needs to change that since he's still a first time starter and inexperienced. Again ball control, clock-eating run game with high percentage completion passing game does wonders for a QB. Problem is BK never figures this out and is too impatient with the QBs.

Anytime an offense scores 49 points I like the game plan. That being said, if Wimbush passed for 70% we would have scored 70.

Huh? Hurts led them down to take the lead in the Title game only to see the vaunted Alabama defense lose it to the same pick play that we ran and were penalized for against FSU a couple years back...

I loathe Alabama, but Hurts was definitely NOT the reason they lost that title game...giving up 35 points though? That may have been a bigger factor...

Lamar Jackson started his career splitting time with a guy who now starts for Rutgers because it took him time to improve his passing. Sometimes it just takes a little time, I think wimbush will be fine but until then if we just crush people with the run game it's fine with me. 95% of the people on this board have been complaining that this team doesn't run enough for years, now they are finally running and people are complaining they aren't passing well enough.

Times of changed and different offenses, but Wimbush's strengths seem more akin to Tony Rice. Those of us who remember Rice, when he throw for 150 yards it seemed like 300. The run game and option is what Holtz relied on and it worked out ok then.

It seems ND preference is to only run the QB a handful of times to keep the defense honest and preserve health of QB. If we keep this philosophy I see us losing many more this year. As I see it we got to run more read options.... I don't see book as answer at all. When he was in there I don't remember seeing him complete a pass of significance. I think I heard Brian Greasy say our receivers were not getting separation. Was anybody at this game or earlier games that can confirm that comment/observation? That is the disadvantage of television. You can't see the receivers until the ball is thrown in there direction

Seems about right. Notre Dame, a school who has played football for 125+ years, set records yesterday for rushing in multiple categories.

Fan response? Yeah, but Wimbush can't throw

I get he needs to throw better to beat good teams, but man, tough crowd.

You have to be able to stretch the field... must get better QB passing and WR play

Help me with something. Lamar Jackson started last year. What year was he then? Case closed

What case is closed exactly?

Wasn't BW recruited as a solid pocket passer with lttle run effect in HS?

He completed 76% of his passes his senior year.

Impressive number

Have you done any research to see as to why such a high completion rate then versus now? I am sure there are several variables but it seems really interesting to me. I kind of have to laugh when people say he is not a pocket passer

My assumption would be his HS WR were just that much better than the DB's they played and were able to get open much more readily.

That seems to be the biggest thing QB's struggle with as they move up. What is considered an "open" WR. In high school, guys get open by yards. In college, they might be open by feet, in the NFL it becomes inches.

The other adjustment is the height of college linemen vs HS. It's harder to see over 6'5" - 6'7" linemen than it is HS linemen.
