September 17, 20177 yr I wouldn't say they suck. They are certainly mediocre though. 7 or 8 wins sounds about right.
September 17, 20177 yr 8 wins is the minimum I see out of this team, that means losing to USC, Stanford and a team we should beat. I watched Georgia again and I think that defense is going to be one of the best in the country. Keep in mind they recruit much better than us on defense and develop better, couple that with them returning 10 starters and it's a damn good defense. I think the offensive coaching staff learned some lessons after that Georgia game. As I type this USC and Stanford both don't look like world beaters, I don't think the Irish have a very tough schedule this year either. 8-10 wins is what this team should get too.
September 17, 20177 yr We played a mediocre game and won by 4 td's. 7/8 wins might not be too far off but they don't suck. Last year's team sucked
September 17, 20177 yr I think 8 wins is the floor.. If you can run and play D, you have a chance in every game. 9-3 is my prediction
September 17, 20177 yr I think 8 wins is the floor.. If you can run and play D, you have a chance in every game. 9-3 is my prediction Very true, and they're learning how to be a running team so I think they'll only bet better. Also, we won't see another defense like Georgia
September 17, 20177 yr USC needs OT to beat Texas. Stanford loses to SDSU. ND beats BC 49-20 Yup and michigan struggled with air force, Alabama had their issues against Colorado State. I'll never be upset with a 4 td win.
September 17, 20177 yr The passing game sucks, the team is average. They've lost to a top 15 team by one and beat two average teams by 30. ND isn't elite and probably not even great, but they are far from average. You guys need to watch more football besides Notre Dame.
September 17, 20177 yr We don't suck. We are just lacking certain features that make average teams great. For instance, no passing game, a special teams that cant kick it to the end zone or kicks it out of bounds, the return of John Goodman, and sometimes stale playcalling. But we don't suck. We have talent. We just haven't. Even able to use them for reasons I'm not sure.

Kelly seemed to indicate in his BC Press Conference that instead of settling for 4 yard gains against GA, Josh Adams was looking for home runs and his hesitation made those runs no gains. Those no gains resulted in lot of 3rd and 10's. If we'd have gotten more run production and had more first downs that game was winnable. We'll see, but if our run game can show up against the better defenses we've got a chance to have a very good season. Secondly, they have to know what works with Wimbush and find some bread and butter passes. A bit of intelligent self scouting could go a long way. The only team that really scares me on the schedule is USC, due to their WR speed and Sam Darnold. We won't face anything like their passsing game untill they roll into town.

I agree with this, msu appears to be a poor man's Stanford this year so we'll see how Saturday goes to see how concerned I am with Stanford. I also think Miami has some crazy speed on d that will give us fits but if we don't blow it against a team we should beat and win just 1 of those 3 tough games we'll win 9 which is more then I expected. But I'm still hesitant to predict that, if we beat msu and nc then I may think 9 or even 10 is possible mostly because our schedule doesn't look as tough as it did 2 weeks ago but let's see how the next 3 games go

If we are truly going with a run team that's fine. But as you suggested, we need some bread and butter passes for Wimbush. The 60's, 70's, and 80's run teams won't work in this day and age. Defenses are just too fast. I do think the three tight end sets are stunting Wimbush's growth a little bit. Some screens with Sanders, go routes with whoever, and play action passes could help speed up that growth period.

This offense is very, very scary if he can be legit dual threat. I want to see how this offense/team looks come in 4-5 weeks. It could be vastly different, or could just be the same. Not all teams have that kinda hope.
Sucks !
Pathetic.
7-8 wins if they are lucky.
