We are definitely a run team. I just wish BK would accept that fact and the rest of the staff. No need to keep shoving a square peg in a round hole. We can and will win with the type of talent we have by running the ball. More often than not during his tenure we have put ourselves behind the eight ball by being too cute and pass happy when we should pound the rock.

We could've beaten UGA by establishing the run game, not all the he outside runs, but hitting the middle more.

That's true and using Williams more. But we have to get better in the pass game for teams like NC and USC coming up. Have to get those 3rd down conversions.

Yes! I know Kelly wants Wimbush to be Deshaun Watson. He isn't there yet, and probably never will be. But if we use him, Adams, and Dex we can score. We can control the clock and win games. Do what best suits the team, not what you want to do.

I did mention using Dex right? Just want to make sure.

One more time, Run Dexter Williams!!! Dear lord

Yes the passing needs to get better. However we need higher completion passes at appropriate times to build BW confidence and to make teams pay for selling out to stop the run. Passing willy-hilly is just dumb when your QB doesn't have the skill set and WR aren't getting it done. Passing all day in a hurricane is just dumb especially in a close game, that's BK mindset, his way only despite evidence to the contrary. He wants to look like the genius all the time. A clock eating, run dominant offense keeps the young energetic defense off the field and rested to make plays when needed. It's that freaking simple.

Wimbush is not accurate at this point of his career. You don't fix that overnight, especially in season. Stay in shotgun, spread people out and run option. Throw it deep when they pack the box. Would really like to see Sanders in the slot on jet sweeps off the option look.. Maybe even Dex... Just keep the speed we do have on the field.. Running like we did in the second half gave an identity to the offense.

Adams in the backfield, with Wimbush at Qb, Dex in slot that you can motion into th backfield ... Is this a dream? Could it happen? I have spank bank material for later at least.

Can't throw it right now so might as well be a different more talented version of Navy

Like I said in the game thread we might as well run the option, we could do it ten times better than the academies. Add in the amount of big tight ends and receivers we have to block and we could run for an absurd amount.

I still think we win 8 or 9 games before the bowl game but if we ran the option this team would win 10.

I'm not joking either, Wimbush is just too much of a liability as a passer but boy can he sure run it.

This board is funny

For the last 7 years the board was belly aching about throwing the ball 30+ per game

We run all over Temple and BC. Lost by a point to a good GA team. And we are complaining that we can't throw

Well we're all happy to be committed to the run but this is the worst passing team we've had by far. Noone is complaining about the amount of passes but the completion percentage.

Apparently, he can't read in context. Good point, 4

Guys are we just pretending last week didn't happen? We racked up running stats against two slow, overmatched defenses and got shut the hell down by the only good D we faced. You can't beat good teams being one dimensional. Need to have a threat of downfield passing.

The problem will come against teams with strong run defenses....

we really can't open teams up with our passing

so if an opponent can SHUT DOWN WIMBUSH---we have no answers....

We have no real pass attack--only one receiver , and a QB that throws too high, doesn't see the field real well, and is not exactly decisive or comfy as a pocket passer...

WE CLEARLY are a run team.....and a pretty good one,,,,but if teams STOP WIMBUSH even if they sell out to do that....we HAVE NOT SHOWN the ability to exploit a thin secondary passing...

Defense is truly IMPROVED.....we are not a dominating defense but we can be an effective one.

Offense can run the ball but MAY NOT have answers for the teams that can control the LOS & control Wimbush , leaving him just with those sprint outs for 2 or 3 yards

If NO TEAM can truly control our run game like Georgia did....if that was a one off---then we are in pretty good shape....

But if we find MSU/USC/MIAMI/STANFORD can stop our run game ,,, at this point it doesn't look like we can respond with an effective pass/run game....

Tricky situation

kind of UNUSUAL for us---effective defense/ effective run game/ SUB PAR pass game....KIND OF THE OPPOSITE of what we have been seeing for years...

will be fascinating to see where we go with this

We shut ourselves down quite a bit against UGA. The play calling was terrible and predictable, our starters got no breathers despite getting the crap beat out of them the whole game. No snaps for Dex despite Adams being exhausted was criminal, on top of the fact that Dex is dynamic also and could've added something to the offense. We discussed all this adnuseum this past week, ND stopped ND as much or more than Georgia did. That's on the coaches and a bad game plan and no adjustments offensively during the game.

It's not a matter of being one dimensional as much as it is playing to your strengths and personnel. BK wants to chuck it and score in bunches, always has, but it hasn't translated well against our tougher competition than everywhere else he's been. His two best seasons here were because of having to dial back the passing and rely on the run game more, be patient, and resting a good defense. Frankly BK probably would've done much better in the Big 12 or PAC 10 with his philosophy.

Probably because the qb was 11-24 with 94 yds. If Bw was 19 of 24 for 200 and 1 yds no one would complain. No Qb sans army or navy should go 11-25 with 94 yds. Know your football.

Its a throwback team for sure. Can a Holtz like offense and defense work in 2017? We're gonna find out. I know someone is going to tell Holtz had better recruits then Kelly, but Wimbush can't help but remind me of a younger Rice I've studied

Think we finally have the D to keep us in games, and allow for a running team. Yes BC is not great, but in the second half, when they decided Wimbush is going to run, we dominated. We may be one dimensional, but I'd rather that dimension be a good running game. Good D and running will keep you in the game against anyone. Think we have the personel to have a real explosive running game.

Hopefully Stepherson will be available in a week or 2, hopefully Sanders starts playing in the slot more. I see a lack of speed on the outside that could really open this team up. We could have a very fast offense and really scare teams.

Run run throw deep, I'm good with that.

Yes it could work. One key to Holtz offense was using multiple backs during the game. Consider the RBs Lou had and how many of them were really a feature back during their time? Answer none, the ball was distrubuted among them fairly equally over a season. It was very effective. How often did Rice pass, not too often, and many times they were big gainers that made defenses pay who sold out to stop the run that took the top off a D. Those offenses used the TE very effectively in the pass game and blocking for the run.

Yes we are a run team, and Wimbush has had issues passing. However, the receivers haven't been so hot either. ESB hasn't been nearly as effective as we thought and has had way too many drops. Do we even have a number 2 receiver? I think Claypool needs to play more. His reception today showed the kid has some jets. Yes, Stepherson needs to return asap. Clueless as to why CJ Sanders isn't getting more time at receiver.
