What would be the mood on this board if we had won this game by a touchdown or even less??? Would people be calling for Kelly's head?? Did you guys not see the bogus roughing the passer penalty against Okwara?? We were taking control. They had 3rd and 16 and threw an incompletion. That lead directly to the winning points.

What about a lot earlier when they flagged Tranquill for a beautiful defense of a pass just over the middle. Again, totally bogus and it lead directly to points.

How could they overturn that touchdown when the ball was still moving?? Subtract 4 more points, I will concede the field goal.

Here's what I saw Saturday. We had the gall to schedule a top SEC defense second game of the year. That's not very smart. Rookie qb and questions on the O line. Wait to mid season when we have a much better offense.

Had we won you guys would be foaming at the mouth over all the improvement in the defense. I particularly was impressed with Bonner. I was sure he was going to be the weak link. What about the play of the safeties? Not the projected nightmare some of us thought. Overall, the defense is top notch and is only going to get better.

Now sure, the offense needs a lot of work, but a lot of that was pure big time defense that is quick, experienced, well coached and huge. This was Alabama.

Yeah, Wimbush could play better, but he is a rookie in his second game. He will not play a better defense the rest of the season. O line had its problems, especially McFlinchey but as you can see he is no longer the one with the false starts. He is going to end up in the NFL and this will be his worst game of the year. The O line will start showing improvement each week as we start this win streak.

Receivers?? Yeah, I'm puzzled a bit too, but I think we found a second guy in Fink. He can be the Wes Welker or Edelman of the N.E. Patriots. Did you see what happened to Tom Brady when Edelman went down?? That was his first option. CROSSING ROUTES. Fink on the crossing routes are a sure thing to move the chain. THROW TO THE RUNNING BACKS We actually did this game. How many did Josh Adams have???

So had we won, nobody would be calling for Kelly's head. I think the changes he made are going to make huge improvements on this team. They already have.

We played much better in the 4th quarter. Cudos to Balis. He's the real deal. This team is very confident. They are going to smoke BC. They are going to start a streak and when USC comes to town we have another shot of WINNING THE BIG ONE. Maybe the Pac 12 refs try to steal that one. We have to be able to beat the refs. Or better yet, join a darn conference.

Wrong. The consensus this week has actually very little to do with the loss. It has to do with our inexplicable playcalling on offense and the tendency of BK to curl up into a ball and hope the bullies go away. It has to do with the fact that some of our most prolific playmakers werent leveraged at all. It has to do with the obvious fact that a promise BK gave regarding playcalling was rescinded and that he opted to protect a lead that we didnt even have. If we won this game, I'd still be disappointed because all of the things he promised he'd fix sit exactly where they were 7 LONG fu(king years ago. And that impact is going to stretch well past this game.

So much here I completely disagree with......

but I just no longer have the energy to list them or debate them.

Scoreboard. We lost again. We lost to another ranked team. Until we win these big games I really do not care what else happens. Nothing matters except beating good teams. I don't care about a win streak against bottom feeders. Beat SC. Beat Stanford. Beat Miami. Then we can talk.

I don't think it was an incompletion. I think they got 15 added to it from what I remember. Without the call it would have been 4th and 2 with GA having a moderate to high chance of getting the 1st down anyway. In regards to the crossing routes, why do these seem to finally come when ND is down in the 4th, reminds me of Clemson. Maybe running 3x earlier in the game and running on 3rd and 5 with a d that gave nD like 2 yds a carry isn't a good idea, how about one of those crossing routes?

Nobody...and I mean nobody has said that the defense isnt significantly improved. The fact that anyone can say that this team in confident when the QB projects a disoriented look like he's been kidnapped by ISIS is beyond me.

I guess we wont mention the holding call that negated the UGa kickoff return at the beginning of the game..the same one that had absolutely no bearing on the actual return itself. The one that wouldve set a very different tone for the game that BK would not have liked. Talk about getting punched in the mouth at home. But it was called and restored the game to equal grounds...

If you watch the game over again we were really lucky to even be in it. They missed so many big plays and the penalties that helped us out too were a big factor. Everything Echo said in his first post is right, we don't have a qb either because Wimbush can't do much other than run.

That game summed up Kelly in his time here, everything you list is a big if because he has lost these types of games time and time again. Talent wise I don't see a gap with Georgia but the coaching advantage was clearly obvious. Dexter and our receivers not playing is on Kelly, not committing to the run or calling something other than that stupid zone read is on Kelly. I've been watching the same crap for 8 years.

I feel like we're beating a dead horse here, the man has won 2 big games in the span of 8 freaking years. Close don't cut it and we've all seen enough of it.

Edited by ndomer4

Disagree. Like Echo said there was so much disappointment in this game especially on offense. Georgia is not a good team. It more of the same with this coach, and it's not good enough for where we want to be.

Look at his record and history.

Rose colored classes need to come off.

This board has become so negative. I tend to agree with a lot of what Oklahoma said on this one. Biggest push back I have is, without the penalties and drops from Georgia we may have been beaten much worse.

Wimbush can and will pass effectively - everyone calm down.

The offense will rebound and perform the remainder of the year.

And fair question for the all downers?

Do we think if we were lucky enough to grab a Peterson, Stoops or Fleck...would they come in and deliver?

Would not be shocked one bit if even Urban Meyer himself came here and couldn't win a NC/ win 9-12 games every year.

Based on what? He's completing 52% of his passes atm and he's a junior. Take away his runs against Temple and I bet the majority here are calling for a switch. He is so indecisive and inaccurate I'm not sure this is something that will get fixed. He is clearly a worse passer than Tommy Rees and everyone here seemed to hate him.

Is Dex going to play again? Are we still going to run this zone blocking scheme? Cam Smith and Canteen are going to strike fear in opposing defenses? Very optimistic to think the offense hits it's stride, Temple is hot garbage and it is very likely Georgia goes 8-4 again.

Kelly hurts Notre Dame. He doesnt help us. He is an anchor. We would recruit and play better without him. There isnt much more to say.

I've been thinking and saying that too. Wimbush supposedly has this strong arm and he's a great runner. Soooo.....what has he shown so far? He ran pretty well against Temple. Temple. He stares down his receivers and I don't think he makes good decisions much of the time. True he's only started two games, but as a player groomed for two years to be the starter, I truly expect more than what I've seen.

I'm not on the Dexter train. I'm a huge Adams fan and don't really care if Dexter gets in the games, although I suspect I'm in the minority on this topic on DomerDomain.

What I couldn't understand is how our offense was so stinkin' anemic last week. Play calling, slow developing plays, mistakes. If that's on Long, then ND is in really really bad shape. It just has BK's fingerprints all over it, though, and he needs to keep his mits off game planning and in-game calls unless there's something major major that absolutely has to have a head coach's decision.

Yes, the holding call was a big help at the beginning of the game, but it was legitimate. The three calls I mentioned were illegitimate.

I hear the complaints about Wimbush and yes I am disappointed at this stage. Way too early to make up your minds. Wimbush was dynamic in high school. Yes, I know this isn't high school, but certainly he deserves more time. I can't emphasize enough how good and fast this Georgia defense was. Seriously, we will not face this much talent on that side of the ball again this year.

Football is all about perception. Right now we are perceived to be the #33 team in the land with top ten talent. Yeah, at this point I would say Kelly is on the hot seat, but here is what I fully expect to happen. We are going to win the next 4 games. Michigan State will be a challenge with their defense, but we will be much better at that point on offense.

So we win 4 straight and then have two weeks to prepare for USC. It will be a home game. The defense will be peaking and control the running back Jones about like we did to Georgia. The offense will be totally different at this point and will move the ball very well. After we win this game we will be setting our sites pretty high.

I picked us to lose to USC and I know that is possible, but I didn't know how good this defense was going to be. A HUGE component is going to be injuries. So far we are very blessed. The two missing guys are both defensive linemen but their injuries are temporary and we haven't missed them. I'm referring mainly to Micah Dew Treadway as I belive he will return this week and give us some quality depth. I think he's better than the freshmen we are playing.

So, next week we beat the point spread against BC and the negativism dies a little bit. Sure some of you guys will complain more as that is what you are

good at. The TRUTHis that Kelly made some great hires. He's a survivalist. He will have good year and be back next year with a dominant defense and a much more mature offense. GO IRISH

Over the last 50 games, ND is 30-20 (.600)*

Kelly is great.

Disprove the fact he is medicore .

Do believe he is elite? Is he great?

You are delirious. Right now we aren't perceived as deserving any rank except for the wildly disappointing stats that national media is willing to remind us of every time this failure of a head coach reaches a new low.

Actually, it is smart IF you are going to play a team like that. If we won, looks great for us. We lost but we lost early in the season. IF we are that good and getting better, this loss doesn't hurt our playoff chances as much as a mid-late loss.

Fromm did absolutely nothing noteworthy and certainly didn't deserve praise for being mediocre other than being a freshman who survived a road test against a paper tiger-led has been of a football school. Guess who has an article about him on front page of ESPN?

Georgia was a very beatable team , we should have , we really needed to find a way to WIN that game. :-x

We will wait for another big game cause there's no alternative,,,,

At some point soon though BK has to find a way ,,,,

aloha

The issue is we've been saying this same thing for 5 years now.

They would have beat FSU without a bad call.

They would have beat Clemson but for one error.

They would have beat Georgia but for a bad call.

But at the same time, USC blows them out. Alabama blows them out. OU blows them out. Ohio St. blows them out. Stanford has blown them out.

Other than Michigan St, who I don't think is an elite team, when has ND ever taken a good team to the woodshed? All of their wins over good teams (the one or two they have) are nailbiters.

That just shows me that after 8 years, they still haven't arrived. Great teams sometime blow out other great teams. They are 50/50 in close games and every now and then they lose big.

ND is like 10/90 in close games, has never blown anyone out and has been blown out more than they should have been. That doesn't suggest to me that they are close. It suggests they are a good team that can sometimes get close to great teams, but rarely get over the top.

Yup agree, and to be honest how many teams even that qualify as good has Notre dame beaten in his 7+ years? I'd love to know his overall record against ranked teams while at Notre dame.
