Brian kelly gotsta go?

I'm not ready to can him after losing a close game to a good georgia team. It's sad that fans who don't show up to support the team can be so demanding.

That said, can he ever win back the fanbase? We beat temple and we praise elko and long. Lose to the bulldogs and blame it all on kelly.

He's in a tough spot.

Have any of you met his wife? She is awesome, if she was more Visable she could do wonders for his image, but i understand keeping your family out of it. She could give as good as she gets though.

A large chunk of the fan base is gone and won't return to him. He needs to win, he isn't doing that at all. He can trot out his wife all day but it still comes down to winning. Temple sucks, BK seems incapable now of winning big games.

The better question is why are you so married to him? What has he done to earn your undying loyalty? Look at his record look at his actions look at everything that he's represented at the University and most of it is negative.

You know who else is wife was amazing was Charlie Weis's. And I bet Ty Willingham wife was also great. It always comes down to wins and losses. And he is not only failing there he is also failing AZ being a good representative of the University. He has thrown players continually under the bus in the past. He is at academic scandals. He's also at risk of losing his best season because used in an ineligible player. At some point all this rest on him. He is the the top of the food chain when it comes to the program. So you may want to blame everybody else but it always ends with Brian Kelly. He is an utter failure when it comes to coaching because he's getting paid near $4000000 to lose five games a year.

With your type of thinking we should have never gotten rid of BobDavie.

When you have a coach into his eighth season you know what you have, the sample size is plenty large enough. If Brian Kelly hasn't demonstrated the ability to take this program to the next level in years 1-7 then I would be a fool to think he'll do it in years 8, 9 and 10.

You have to decide what your expectations are as a fan and then decide if you feel Kelly has or is capable of meeting those expectations. Over 7 seasons Kelly has proven to be an 8 win football coach. Some years he wins more some less but he is an 8 win coach at this level. If that's good enough for you or you think thats the ceiling for notre dame football in this day and age then by all means keep him. I personally feel nd can do better.

And I'm sure his wife is a wonderful person, unfortunately that doesn't give you a lifetime contract

He doesn't have my "undying loyalty", that's a little strong.

I started a thread before last season saying I don't like him. In the recent poll thread I let it be known how I feel.

I can however put personal feelings aside and look at what is best for the program. I'm a bird in hand type of guy and I think there are some good possible replacements for BK, but someone who is gonna make us an elite team is a long shot.

Honestly, given the choice , 8 wins a year with a surprise season now and then under bk is more desirable then going through a 12 year run where we replace a coach every 4 years. If it's the right coach then I'm ready for change but I dread seeing a new coach being introduced and telling us how tough and physical we are going to be. i've heard it a million times. I don't want to listen fans thinking things will change when "his" player get here. I'm tired cali domer. There are over 100 fbs teams and the programs that meet the standards of many on this board can be counted on one hand.

you may not agree, but that's my honest take.

He won't win me back this season unless we go 11-1. If he goes 9-3 I'll give him next year as his last chance for me.

Really though it's year 8 and I know he's not the guy, we're just beating a dead horse here.

I don't know what the hell Jack was thinking extending him before the Fiesta bowl. If he waits until after that game we likely have Rhule or Fleck as head coach this season.

Everything said so far is correct. People are also getting tired of the university and its antics too. People who are alumni are always pointing out how the mission of the school seems to be getting further away from the values they believe it represents. The football program is obviously its most public representation, and the sheer mismanagement of it for years now is turning a lot of people off. And for many it's indicative of how the school is changing into something they can't recognize.

Do you Rhule or fleck for this season, guys with no experience at this level? We now give bk a chance to right last season disaster, but also see rhule and fleck at bigger programs. As of now rhule's team is struggling. If fleck has a good season he's our's. I think one extra year of bk was worth it.

Ok, here is the thing about canning Kelly after last year. This isn't gospel but I've seen from a couple of guys who usually have good info. Preliminary search was done in case Kelly bolted or we moved on and the two best guys who were interested were Rhule and Narduzzi. Pretty underwhelming.

After this season, Stoops, Gruden, and probably a couple of guys like O'Brian and John Harbaugh will be available. Chip Kelly will be as well but I don't think ND would touch him. But regardless, there is a much better talent pool now. Penn States OC is very interesting as well.

I'm not sure if that's who we'd have hired but those were two of the most talked about names if I recall correctly. I have no clue why Rhule took the Baylor job, that place is a mess and will probably take 5 years to right the ship.

I think Fleck taking the Minnesota job was somewhat premature on his part since I think he could have gotten a better job. It's great now that we get to see how Fleck does at a bigger program and decide if he is ready for the bright lights of Notre Dame.

I am at the point now where I wouldn't mind if we gave Elko a chance as head coach. As Jack stated I think Kelly or Harbaugh would be good choices but I really can't see the big names taking this job anymore.

Gruden or john harbaugh? Seems like wishful thinking

I think Gruden in a setting like ND would be a disaster. Not to be a grumpy old man here (though at 37 I`m closer than I would like), but milennials don`t mesh well with blustery, loud, demanding coaches imo.

I think the general sentiment of the board is correct - if not Kelly, then who? For all those who want Fleck, Narduzzi, etc, may I remind you of Charlie Strong. Inexperienced head coach who was a can't miss hire....whoops.

Chip Kelly would be fun though.....

Football seems to still be the only sport where they can't completely get away with that nonsense. As for Saban and Harbaugh, they do fine with recruiting and winning. I think Gruden would be fine here also.

If I may...growing up in South Bend and attending the public schools there. And then moving and living in different areas of the US, I would have a very hard time going back there to live. Not necessarily to coach, but definitely live. Especially, if I gobs of money and could live anywhere. That alone is what I think Grudens biggest problem might lie. JMO

Yes, yes yes. Elko is the head coach in waiting. We have the next guy right here under contract already. Ivy-League educated and one of the best defensive minds in the game (and a great recruiter, to boot) he is the MAN!

He'd make Lea with whom he has coached and has great trust in as DC and go from there. He would be an awesome hire.

Sometimes you don't know what you have in your own backyard because you are too busy looking over at what your neighbor has and coveting it.

8 years in and I don't think Kelly is/was ready so I'm not too worried about Fleck being ready.

Kelly's ship has sailed. He talks a good game but gets the same disappointing results year after year.

He needs to go..yesterday.

And why do we want either one of these guys?

I don't particularly want gruden, has been out of coaching for a long time and don't think he's ever coached in college. Harbaugh seems less risky and is a huge name that would vault us right there with michigan osu and bama with a big name coach. He intrigues me for sure. But even if you see them as big time risks I'm done with mediocre 8 win Kelly, it's time for a change.

He doesn't even talk a good game.
