Setting your fandom aside, would you play for Brian Kelly at ND? Assume you have other legit D1 offers. I'm legitimately curious if you'd like to have BK as a coach.

I have friends that played for him at GVSU and loved him. I also see how he mismanages his players and his ego seems to be out of control. I also consider that Saban is considered the best in CFB and he seems like a complete jerk that blatantly disregards players and pushes them out of his program... yet, he gets the pick of the litter.

Yes, but not because I want to play for Kelly. I actually hate the idea of playing for Kelly, but I'd have played for Notre Dame under any coach. Each recruiting cycle, there are always kids who just want to go to one school and don't care about the situation and I'm one of those kids. When I was in high school, Ty Willingham was the coach and I'd have committed to Ty, knowing full well that he'd waste my talent and I'd be a part of some of the worst teams in ND history.

Take Notre Dame out of this question and ask me if I'd play for Brian Kelly if he were at, say, Florida. In that case, I wouldn't give Florida the time of day because the school itself isn't a draw to me and I don't have any interest in playing mediocre football and occasionally getting thrown under the bus by Brian Kelly.

I can't take my fandom aside, if Notre dame offered me a scholarship to play football and receive a free degree I would jump at the opportunity no matter who the coach was or who else offered.

That may be true, but there is a reason why coaches sit living rooms and attempt to earn the trust of the player and family.

I think a better question is would you like your children to play for Brian Kelly? As many others have said I love ND too much to not go there if given the chance, but I'm not sure I could want to push my child to play for a guy who not only seems to be an *** who uses players, then blames them when things don't go his way, but doesn't even win. Why anyone would want their child to play for a mediocre team with a coach that is still at the very least a jerk is beyond me.

That's a good question. If I'm looking at this as a parent, I don't like anything I see out of Kelly and how he carries himself and handles things in moments of truth. I don't feel like the salesman in my living room is the man who will be coaching my child.

All true. But I feel that if I raised my kid the right way he should be fine with the yelling. Also, IF I raised him the right way, then he shouldn't be yelled at that often anyways. Unless he's the qb...then we are talking about something completely different.

It's not the yelling I care about; I want my theoretical son to be called out when he does wrong and learning to handle criticism is important. I'm talking more about the way Kelly holds some of his players to different standards than others (Claypool isn't playing because of his lack of attention to detail, yet you're still trotting Mack out there at TE to drop passes?) and how he loves to throw everyone else under the bus instead of putting it on himself as the leader and taking the adversity as a chance to look at yourself and adapt. Nothing is ever BK's fault.

I can't argue with that. And that would be something as a parent you could have a conversation with BK about when he's in your house recruiting your son.

That snake oil salesman would lie through his teeth to get your son on campus.

I might. I have the mindset of a 44 year old which is get that degree. I'd be more pi$sed if kelly put me in the game then if i never played a second.

Now if he was recruiting my son, I'm sure i would like other coaches better. I thought it was just me but bk rubs people the wrong way.

I've seen bk a few times when he was at uc. I went to a few radio shows. He was arrogant and thought his crap didn't stink. At ND you tell he's phony and trying to find the right character to portray.

yes, not because of BK but because it's ND.

Meh, best coaches I ever had were all complete a-holes so that part wouldn't bother me. Assuming I was good enough to have a choice to go elsewhere, I'd take his recent on field product more into account than if he'd hurt my feelings. Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh-all jerks but they get results.

I guess my argument is if a coach is a ******* at the best and a morally bad person at the worst, I want to win. My high school basketball coach was an *******, but he was a great coach so I have a state championship ring and I learned a ton about the game of basketball. Kelly goes 8-5 and is an *******, and that would be much harder to stomach as a player.

yes, not because of BK but because it's ND.

That's my sentiment. I appreciate the kids that commit and stick with it despite the relative lack of progress of the football program in recent years.

Spot on. Agree 100%. Would give my left nut and more to play for ND. Coach would not matter.

Nope, if I'm playing for an a**hole, I'd rather play for one who wins.
