September 11, 20177 yr I guess he won't be calling on her again. Kind of tough all around. He's unhappy with the loss, he knows he'll be hearing about it from all sides. He knows he has a job to do and cannot afford to lose the team this early in the year. She has a job to do too and asked a question everyone wants answered. Bad timing on her part? Not really, just unfortunate that she's the one asking it.
September 12, 20177 yr Actually she did not know it was time to shut up. Much ado about nothing. Play ball. Edited September 12, 20177 yr by Domer Dude

September 12, 20177 yr Actually she did not know it was time to shut up. Much ado about nothing. Play ball. My guess is that Brian Kelly interpreted it the same way. Right after a tough loss isn't the time for that. Ask on Monday if you really care, id imagine he viewed it as her throwing salt on his wounds. Would have rather had someone ask about the pvssy playcalling and why they didn't want want to take any risks to actually win the game.
September 12, 20177 yr I want BK gone as much as anyone else on here. But I have to defend him on this one. Don't ask a coach a stupid question about last year right after an emotionally tough loss. If you do, be prepared to get called out.
September 12, 20177 yr I'm more on the side of Kelly here vs Litman. She asked a long-winded, stupid question after a tough loss. With that said, Kelly could have and probably should have handled it much differently. Also, people are are being disgusting toward her on social media now. Completely unnecessary. September 12, 20177 yr I think it was a valid question. I'm a Kelly apologist and if he can't take the hard questions from even what he may view as a little girl (and that's how I think he views her) he needs to go back to GVS type schools. Man up Brian and act professionally!
September 12, 20177 yr http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=20673862 Finebaum has an opinion.... Edited September 12, 20177 yr by echo88
September 12, 20177 yr She stuttered a little, but it was a great question. The ND PR machine had been talking for months about how Kelly is a changed man, how these new assistants and strength coaches are going to make a hue impact and how the team has changed its culture for the better. Now we see a team that loses a close game, just like it did every game last year, so what is actually different? The only variable that is the same is Kelly, and what is he going to do to keep things from snowballing last year?

September 12, 20177 yr Paul Finebaum is not a fan of ND or Brian Kelly so think it important to not put much stock in his comments. However the problem for ND, is because of the overall track record for his tenure combined with losing the game, this story isn't going to die anytime soon. Media is circling their wagons and unfortunate because I thought he handled the presser better than past years, very supportive of Wimbush and the team, then boom, a question about losing one possession games which has been his been his biggest failing. Hoping we come out of BC with a good, convincing win and get the focus back on football and not personalities.

Hoping we come out of BC with a good, convincing win and get the focus back on football and not personalities. In the last couple years Finebaum has actually been fairly complimentary about ND as an institution. His main job description seems to be to prop up the SEC at every possible opportunity, but he said things like "Notre Dame deserves so much better than Brian Kelly." To me, that doesn't sound like a guy who is anti-ND so much as it sounds like a guy, much like many of us, who thinks Kelly is a jerk. In the last 2 seasons he has called BK a "miserable human being" and a "jerk." While I don't know BK personally, from what I see in the media (which admittedly isn't a lot on a day to day basis) I agree with both of those statements. And to argue that BK is getting better because he isn't blaming entire losses on singular players is pretty damning in and of itself isn't it? The bar is so low with him that as long as he doesn't completely freak out and blame Mustipher he did well? I'm not sure..

We do deserve better than Brian Kelly.
September 12, 20177 yr I have no issue when coaches go off when reporters ask dumb questions. But this wasn't a dumb question. And to top it off, he sounded like an idiot by saying, "It wasn't a one possession game, it was a one point game." Hey ***, one point is one possession and now your 1-9 in your last 10 tries in such games. If you want to be a pompous know it all, you better win 10 games most years, or in fact, actually know it all, neither of which is Kelly.
September 12, 20177 yr Author Showing respect doesn't cost a thing. All he had to do was let her talk and then say, "We're on to Boston College."
September 12, 20177 yr 1.) Laken needs to learn how to articulate a concise F'ing question. How can you call yourself a journalist if you can't spit it out? 2.) BK is technically correct...it wasn't one possession. It was one point. We had three possessions where we could've overcome the deficit, but didn't. I understand what she was trying to get at, but her execution was sh*t. And, for all of these journalists to line up and support her without saying what a failure her question was is absolutely asinine. #FakeNews Don't get me wrong, BK is a dick, but the journalists in this country are the bullies. They attack in gangs, even when someone like Laken can't do her job effectively.

September 12, 20177 yr Showing respect doesn't cost a thing. All he had to do was let her talk and then say, "We're on to Boston College." At a press conference where he is there to answer questions, he needs to answer all the questions in the time alloted. The easy answer would have been calmly saying, "We stop it from snowballing by winning close games. That's my job and I failed tonight". If she peristed on what he was going to do to fix it from snowballing he should have said, "It's my job to win and that's what I'm going to do". He only made himself look like a fool by arguing with her about the semantics of the loss being by one point or one possesion. He's there to win. Period. When he doesn't, he takes responsibility. That's how all the great coaches at ND handled failure with the press.

It is ridiculous. Ya know what? You have to have one possession to score one point (unless you get a defensive stop). The reporter did nothing wrong here.

Not only are you trying to argue semantics, but you are doing it about as poorly as possible. For somebody calling others "asinine" it seems pretty asinine to try and argue that one point does not equal one possession.
