Maybe this is just because I have had a few too many adult beverages tonight, but I just have to say I have never been more depressed or frustrated as a ND fan ever.

I have been following this team since the early 70's so I have seen the good and the bad so I feel I have a good perspective and not just looking at a small sample size. Even in the past when we have had some bad and frustrating times I always had some hope and there was always some bright spot or win that kept me going.

But the last 5 years have been so incredibly demoralizing as an Irish fan. We have literally beat no one in five years and have lost every single big game. Most of them in some of the most gut wrenching ways possible that just adds to the torture. It is the same old story--we play well enough to win but just never get it done.

The thing that is putting me over the edge though is that there is absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel. I have no faith at all in BK. And I have even less faith in Swarbrick or the admin to find a great coach as a replacement. Further, I have even less faith that any great coach would want to ever come to this grease fire of a program.

Ending this with just my last random thoughts on this game:

1. The O line is garbage and continues to be overrated. No pass protection or run game all night. Inexcusable for the supposed talent on that line.

2. McGlinchy is the most overrated lineman I have ever seen. That dude has never done **** and got absolutely worked tonight in every way.

3. Wimbush is average at best. He just doesn't have that "It" factor. Keizer had it and now you can see why BK wanted him to come back so badly.

4. I give the defense a lot of credit. Holding them to 20 points at home should have been good enough to get the win. Our tackling is vastly improved and I give Elko a ton of credit.

5. Drue Tranquill played a hell of a game.

6. Adams just can't hit the holes quickly enough up the middle.

7. Where the hell was Dexter Williams???

8. Our fan base absolutely sucks and are a bunch of pansies for selling half the stadium tix to GA fans. We never have a home field advantage anymore. You just don't see that much with other top teams. Embarrassing.

9. Just fire Kelly now and be done with it. Seriously.

This is honestly the lowest point I have ever seen this program. I am not talking about record wise either. I am just talking about respectability. When you don't beat a ranked team in 5 years--I mean a really good ranked team--then you are just a garbage program.

I will always be a die hard fan but I can honestly say I have never seen this program at a lower point in terms of respectability and combined with hope for the future ever. Completely depressing.

Seconded. Tough game but you will feel better tomorrow. Don't do anything stupid :)

Like you I have also followed the Irish since the early 70's, I am just grateful that I was able to see ND win 3 national championships since then. The ones I feel sorry for are all the newer ND fans who came on board after Lou left.

You're drunk. Firing Kelly would be stupid at this point.. We are so close to being a perennial 9-3 team.

Kinda spot on with 1-8 but I feel like you shouldn't attack any of our O Lineman personally as they didn't ask to have one of the worst coaches teaching them football. (See mike gundy rant.. he's a man)

But there was still hope and a light at the end of the tunnel that we could turn it around. What I'm saying is that I have zero confidence that anyone associated with the program or university has a clue as to how to get it fixed.

A game like this is tough for sure. If other teams get better as the season goes on we can hope ND will also. Keep the faith brother, at this stage all change is good.

How is it that I can't call out one of our lineman but you can call out Alize? Seems hypocritical to me.

And a perennial 9-3 team doesn't get my juices flowing. Winning big games against ranked teams does. Yo can go 9-3 and 8-4 and lose all your big games to ranked teams. What does that accomplish?

Just do what everyone else does, take those three off the schedule and pile in some FCS teams.

Thanks for that heart warming perspective

I will always be a ND fan. Just saying it is really hard to see the light right now. Just about every team out there has a big win to hange their hat on over the last five years. We have nothing. That is hard to deal with when you have been a fan of this team as long as I have.

Touche. But I feel like you can insert any name in the o line complaint..

Additionally I was wildly intoxicated when I made that post.. I didn't articulate my thoughts well. I was frustrated that many people on here were enamored with this guy and he's done nothing.. also he was suspended due to academic reasons and has been more of a distraction than anything. Cool change your name..get suspended and you still hurt your team because you're unreliable at catching footballs.

Unreliable? I disagree. I can rely on him to drop the ball mostly.

The faithful will always remind you that we beat Oklahoma in their house. Dancing now.

I don't know if this is the lowest moment as a fan. I'm getting pretty numb of the modern approach to our program, and I don't see an end in sight. Everything is being thrown into the program: stadium upgrade, new practice facilities, training table, added staff, weight room, locker room, uniforms, blah blah blah. Hundreds of millions of dollars for all these "improvements" to the FB program. However we won't dump a few million into sh*t canning an obviously failed coach who has done nothing but look out for the interests of himself since day one. His failures are numerous, embarassing, and publically well known. Yet we retain him....

I won't say this is my lowest point ever.

I will say that I am done, DONE, scheduling my Saturdays around Notre Dame football until ND actually wins a game against a top 20 opponent. Not even a top 10 opponent mind you, but a top 20 team.

How far this team has fallen in the last few years is maddening.

I do have the tiniest flicker of hope, given the OC and DC, but only a flicker.

Now that I have slept on it and have had time to settle down emotionally......

I still feel the same way! Except throw in a little more anger into the frustration.

We are 1-9 in our last 10 games vs ranked opponents. That is ridiculous.

To have a QB that has been in the program for 3 years look that bad is terrible. BW looked like how I hoped Fromm would look.

Our O line and offensive play calling was pathetic. It doesn't matter that Long is calling the plays because it is still BK's offense. I am so sick and tired of the slow developing read option run plays. We made zero adjustments at halftime. If it wasn't for the penalties and the fumble recovery we may not have scored at all. I didn't see the final stats but I would bet that we had more yards given to us in penalties than we had rushing yards.

Hearing that Dexter not getting on the field was "a coaching decision" is just another head scratcher in a long line of poor BK decisions. Please fire the guy now! He has cost us so many games over the last five years--either by preparation, game planning, or in game decisions--and I am completely sick of it.

This program is in a death spiral and there are no decision makers in the program or the admin that can get us out of it. They are out of touch with the reality of the state of the program OR they do understand and they don't care.

ND is who they are, not terrible and not great. I can care less if they end up firing Kelly but what's the point. Another 3 years of saying oh wait until so and so gets his guys here...blah blah blah, I've heard that before. That game made me sick as soon as I turned my TV on seeing all that red, where in the hell does that happen in the country to a top 25 team. Then I have to hear that woman singing here come the Irish over the PA, christ put me to sleep please. Then it's Dropkick Murphy, ND is the 50 year old guy that tries to hang out with the 20 something crowd. I watched Penn State yesterday, simply because a vast majority of my friends are PSU fans. Atmosphere, crazy crowd, sea of white, pumping in music that actually sounds good. I get it that they have a student population 4 times that of ND but damn it was fun to watch. I haven't felt that watching ND in a while. Am I at a low point, maybe. But its been this way for me for a while.

I think what last night proved is that many of us were right when we said bk has taken this program as far as he's able. This season is far from lost, hell I predicted 8-4 and that's still entirely possible but a 7 or 8 win season changes nothing in terms of long term potential with bk at the helm.

0 for their last 6 against ranked opponents and 1-9 in their last 10 one score games at this point in his tenure says all you need to know.

I won't say this is my lowest point ever.

I'll give you the DC....Elko looks like the real deal...called the game pretty much like you should against a true frosh...D played downhill, filled gaps, and deserved to win...

OC...Long's playcalling was atrocious last night...No adjustments at all...Not saying he's not the man, but he definitely was not the man last night. Plus, if you look at his resume...Nothing is overly glaring...He's got a lot to prove.
