I realize we're all preparing for Georgia, however I wanted to post thoughts on the Temple game after watching the replay with sound. I was at a BWW with no sound and the view wasn't as good. Here we go:

1) Wimbush is the real deal. Kid is absolutely the complete package. Incredible, electric runner. I knew he could run but I was blow away by this aspect. Thought his arm and decision making was good too. He did have a few drops that didn't help. He needs to avoid contact better to minimize injury chances.

2) Running game looked great. Wow Josh Adams is a stud. Huge, fast, and incredible vision. Some of those long runs he had a lot of backs would have been stopped at the line not him though. Dexter Williams needs more carries also. He is fast and runs hards. As I've said before, I want both of these guys to get 50%+ of all offensive plays. Long's emphasis on the running game is a beautiful thing.

3) The oline looked good. Nice holes all day long especially the left side. Much improved from last year. Georgia will be a tough test, but I think we'll be ok. How about Hainsey? Guess the staff prefers him over Kramer for pass protection.

4) Dline looked much better. Both Hayes kids looked good. Jay Hayes is quite active for a man of his size. D Hayes is a beast. Love the jumping over tackles to crush the qb plays. MTA has a lot of potential. Thought Bonner/Tillery played well also. They better put their big boy pants on for Saturday.

5) Coney needs to play more and start. Kid looked awesome. Looked faster, great tackler, and aggressive. Give me more Coney now. It's absurd that he's not starting at this point.

6) Secondary looked ok. This is the one area I'm a bit concerned about honestly. But, Temple's qb looked pretty good at times. Hope Elko/Lyght get this figured out quickly. I have a feeling that Fromm is going to test this secondary, true frosh or not.

7) Special teams far improved albeit Yoon's misses. Thank you Brian Polian. Far better tackling and coverage. I never thought I'd be so happy to have a special teams coach return, but I am. Pollen is a stud.

Overall, I really like this team and the changes were more evident than I expected. Just a better energy around the team and far better product. This offense can do incredible things if BW stays healthy.

Bring Georgia on!!! We'll be ready ;)

I noticed one thing watching the videos that hasn't been mentioned before.

Receiver down field blocking.

That set up the long runs.

Don't be so quick to discount Martini. Coney is definitely in the rotation and should be, but Martini is very good. It wasn't his best game, however and when that happens Coney should get a big chunk of the snaps which happened.

The depth at LB is a great thing. Bilal was also very effective in his snaps.

That hit in the backfield that Bilal had was amazing. So fast and you could hear the hit loudly on TV. I'd like to see more of him on the field.

Having a good second level of defense is never a bad thing. When an opponent starts getting into the secondary, then you have issues. I thought the LBs did a good job of reading plays and swarming to the ball overall.

Martini is not good, let alone very good.

Great debut by Elko but next week is the real measuring stick. Love the fact we played so many defenders. See you Saturday Ed.

I think everyone got MORE THEN THEY EXPECTED out of this teams first game---almost every concern was answered positively----we looked so good vegas favored us against Georgia ---I AM SURE there is not a single poster on this site who would have predicted being favored over Georgia after our debut game,,,,,

So what's not to like ?

Nothing much

The BIG QUESTION that needs to be answered ---was it real or was it Memorex?

aloha

He just isn't as fast and athletic. He badly missed a tackle in the backfield which could have been made if he were more athletic. Coney is more athletic, faster, wraps up better, and plays with more of a chip. I don't mind Martini in on certain packages (obvious rushing) but not all the time. Coney's bulk has helped him a ton. He's always been a good tackler. Saturday he showed ND nation he is now a great tackler.

The dline looked much better than I anticipated. They were bigger, more athletic, and played hard all day long. How about MTA? Kid looked pretty darn big and athletic for a true frosh. Loved they played him week 1. Truly embodies the theory best man plays. Jay Hayes and Daelin Hayes both looked good. Jay Hayes can do big things with that size and fairly quick for as big as he is. They need to dominate Georgia's oline Saturday.

Dalen Hayes was able to get off blocks and pursue laterally along the line of scrimmage to help stop running backs getting into the second level. It is going to be interesting to see if he's able to to do that against Georgia.

Georgia's oline is considered the weakest link of the whole team. As I was on the UGA boards, it sounded like it took them a while to get going at all against Appalachian St. Think he'll have opportunities. Love his attitude and tenacity the entire game. Just seemed to play with a vengeance.

We looked good.

When you are watching the game, you see all the mistakes that keep your team from scoring 100 points. You see every mistake but pay no attention to the positive things unless it results in a big play.

I watched the game again knowing the outcome and we had a lot of good stuff going on. I loved that I lost sight of the true ball carrier when we ran the read option. That was never the case with kizer. Jones didn;;t have the big rushing game but he blocked well and is tough to bring down. Special teams looked engaged and despite a few missed tackles the D was active. We looked like a good team. In years passed even when we won they rarely felt like we played well.

This was nice

Bottom line: They looked like a quality top ten college football team.

Saturday: When they get hit in the mouth how hard will they hit back?

Bilal can hit. I remember his highlight tape in high school was some of the most vicious hits I've seen.

Wimbush taking hits is a product of a new quarterback feeling himself out. He's learning what and when he can take and what he needs to avoid. I suspect he'll be much smarter this week with the hits he takes. Taking big hits in the middle of the field is a good way to lose a fumble. Just get down.

I was floored about Wimbush's ability to run the read option in his 1st legitimate start. It was beautiful. This play could be our bread and butter all season with him and Adams. I honestly can't think of 2 players at their position I would prefer to have run the play.

I like BW's demeanor also. Good mix of being upbeat and just having fun. Doesn't seem to get ever get too flustered. I quickly figured out kid is a gamer after the Weisher td catch in the 1st half. That was big boy stuff.

Just have a couple of things that stuck out in my mind:

- Wimbush: Has a rocket for an arm. Why can't our guys maintain their footing as they weave their way through traffic?

- Run Defense is a concern. I saw some big runs from Temple and I'm fairly certain that this Temple team isn't nearly as good as last year's (Knowing our luck, they'll probably go 5-7), and the team will be facing two of the top RB's in the nation this week

I agree with a lot of what you had to say, but Martini is not very good.

Now Martinis, those are very good. :drum: :peace:

Respectfully disagree on both accounts haha

Martini is not good enough to be playing top level CFB. He is a MAC level player.

I agree but the way the guys on irishillustrated talk about how impressive he is in practice is surprising. I'm guessing the coaches see the same thing which is why he is able to continuously hold off Coney. It's not a bad situation at linebacker though at all because I think bilal and Coney are pretty much starters, I think it'll be a very active 5 man rotation all season
