Should be a great game between these two teams.

From what I gather perusing the Georgia boards, besides the fact they don't think ND is any good, it seems the strengths and weaknesses of these teams match up pretty well.

ND OLine vs Georgia DLine. Strength on strength. Whichever unit can dictate play in this battle will go along way to determining the outcome. If ND can't establish the LOS and get the run game going, it will be a long game.

ND DLine vs Georgia OLine. Weakness vs Weakness. Georgia has implemented new blocking schemes under Smart and from what I've read, the players still have figured it out. It seems as though they just don't have the guys they want, but the guys they've recruited are still too young. If ND's DLine can neutralize the OLine, Chubb and Michel don't matter as much. No RB can run where there aren't holes. If those guys are given open space to run all game, it will not go well for ND. ND has to win at the point of attack and the DLine has to hold its own.

ND Secondary vs Georgia Passing attack. Weakness vs weakness. Georgia has talented WR, but a true freshman likely starting at QB. The DLine needs to apply pressure and not let the WR have time to run free. I'm not sure ND can cover well enough if the QB has time to set his feet and throw.

ND offense vs Georgia Defense . Strength vs strength. Those guys are a legit SEC defense with a bunch of great athletes. ND has the horses up front to open some holes, but everything will be a step faster for Wimbush this week. How he adjusts will be the big question mark.

Please add your thoughts, videos, etc. on Georgia. Looking forward to a well fought game with what should be two evenly matched teams.

I'm not that concerned about our offense. I think we have enough weapons to move the ball on them and put up some points. As long as we don't have any turnovers I think we will be ok on this side of the ball.

Defensively is where I am really worried. I just don't see us effectively stopping their run game. I think we will be forced to bring more guys up to stop the run and then leaving our secondary exposed to the pass. Our defense just doesn't pass the "eye test" with me from a size and speed standpoint. We had some good moments against Temple, but this is a legit SEC team with some future NFL players. If we can somehow hold them to a field goal here and there instead of getting into the end zone then we will have a chance.

The other factor that I don't hear anyone talking about is our supposed "home field advantage". I think the stadium will be at least half Georgia fans and when you get that many fans into an opposing stadium it can be demoralizing for the home team. I don't see us having any advantage at all playing at home.

I see this game going one of two ways: ND wins a very close, high scoring game that goes right down to the final play. Or GA wins handily by 14-17 points.

Part of me wonders if we don't give the SEC too much credit. Other than Alabama, I really think the SEC isn't much different than most other conferences.

Georgia won 8 games last year and only two were by more than 10 points, one of which was Louisiana Lafayette. They beat Nicholls St. by 2. They lost to Georgia Tech. They lost to Vanderbilt. Lost by 31 to Ole Miss. Lost to Florida by 14.

Notre Dame isn't a juggernaut, but they are every bit as good as Vanderbilt or Georgia Tech. I read the Georgia boards and they are thinking they can name the score and are wondering if Smart will run it up or play it safe.

They have a true freshman in their first start. You'd think they were Alabama. Great team, great athletes, but I don't see them as capable of coming into ND and running up the score. Maybe I'm wrong. But there is a reason why Vegas favors ND by 4.

This is everything I expected. I saw some of the replay and Fromme made some

poor decisions that he got bailed out on because his receivers were more aggressive (the one that stands out is the jumpball 1 on 3 that his receiver caught for a touchdown). our secondary better be ready to exploit bad decisions if he's going to be too confident and throw into coverage.

Michel and Chubb run HARD. We better come ready to tackle. if the dline holds their own against Georgia's young oline, then we don't have to worry about Chubb and Michel hitting the second level at full speed in a straight line. That's the best way to prevent safeties cheating up and big plays in the passing game.

Our weakness is going to be attacked on the right side of the line. If we can't block it, expect to see a lot of two back sets (or maybe an extra tight end) with jones protecting. If Georgia gets aggressive with attacking the right side, I can see a lot of big plays in the running game.

Kirby Smart just said Eason is out. So their QB will be Jake Fromm, a true freshman from Georgia starting his first road game. Fromm was ranked #3 in Rivals QB recruits.

I see it as a 24-23 type game. Since I want ND to win I say 24-23 ND.

Caveat: If Kelly abandons the run all bets are off.

The home team is always at an advantage because you don't have to account for travel time. Getting up early then sitting on a plane and bus will tighten you up and definitely gives the home team an advantage.

They only put up 31 against Appalachian State. We are no defensive juggernaut but we are much improved and I think most are giving a very average Georgia team way too much credit. They have 2 really good backs, so do we and we have a much better line.

This isn't Kelly's best team but it's by far his best coaching staff. Irish will roll.

Should be a great game between these two teams.

We certainly have a recent history of making freshman/inexperienced Qb's look good, especially at ND Stadium. I always hesitate to discount the opposing QB and have to agree with your last sentence here

Overall, I like ND's chances when taking all into consideration. I'm not convinced this Georgia team is up to par with what most ppl think of the SEC...yet. Hell, i'm not convinced the SEC is up to par with what the general populus' perception. I think the SEC has fallen well short of bowl winning expectations, etc

THis is so true. However, I truly think Elko will right this ship. I don't see Fromm having a Sanchez, Barkleyesq game.

Anybody else think Elko tries to do what most good coaches do and make Georgia one-dimensional. I think he tries to stop the run and put Fromm in difficult passing situations. I also agree that we are making Georgia to be this amazing team. They've been on par with us in terms of mediocrity lately. I think we get them this week.

They will probably do the same to us. Force wimbush into passing.

I predict this game will be a roller coaster of emotions.

I really like the Irish in this match up---

Against our defense what will worry me is a FIRST CLASS PASSING ATTACK --ala USC

If we are looking for a big name school that we have a strong chance to beat the run oriented Georgia team is just what the doctor ordered

I like the Irish by 8 points 28--20

aloha

I know I've been gushing since the hire, But he keeps a lot of things simple and effective.

If you look at the coverage sack thread he knew that Tillery, Hayes and Hayes did not have to play every snap vs Temple.

What he do? Kurt Hinish played, Brandon Tiassum Played. Freshman Okwara got the sack.

I feel like our defense is in great hands.

I don't know if we'll beat Georgia. I'm just excited that Mike Elko will be calling the defense. I think as long as he and Balis are together the arrow is pointing in the right direction.

Georgia will be a strong test to see how good this year's ND team will be - but as others have said it is not a bad matchup for ND.

I would be much more worried about a team who can punish our secondary, and Georgia doesn't appear to be that type of team. Their running backs are outstanding and NDs tackling will have to get better than it was against Temple.

Georgia's passing attack is not outstanding, and the freshman QB Fromme looked better than Eason, but was not great and saved by his receivers on a few occasions. Georgia's TE is strong and is a go-to receiver for them. All in all, I don't see a team that will be able to exploit our secondary.

Their defense returns almost all of its starters, is aggressive and flies to the ball like a stereotypical SEC team. Despite the depth, they have some injuries in the secondary and are not very experienced in the back end. Hard to tell how good they are against App State, but I expect EQ to be set up for a big game this weekend.

I expect both teams to load the box and sell out against the run. If both teams can stop the run, the Irish should have an advantage because I think we will be able to expose Georgia's secondary more than they can expose our secondary. Assumption here is that Wimbush is better than Fromme and NDs WR/TEs are better than Georgia's.

Should be a fun one and I like the Irish's chances this weekend.

They think Appalachian State is much better than Temple. Was a little astounded by that. One poster said Appy State's QB was better than Wimbush. :dizzy:

Agreed right now USC worries me the most, MSU and Stanford are others since they are close games no matter what.

I just love this matchup for the Irish.
