Could not ask for much more

Dline held up great

Loved the three and out starting the second half--Geez did BVGs defense ever do that?

Loved the big THIRD sack by Cooney that stopped the red zone drive after the INT

TERRIFIC pressure all day---yes its only Temple but we couldn't handle anybody over the last two seasons

Thumbs up for the defense by Hawaii

RUN GAME--wow

getting over 400 yards rushing ---yes yes yes

Left side of the line looked GREAT

THIS GAME GOES TO THE RUN GAME & THE DEFENSE!!

Wimbush solid near 100 rush

Color me very pleased....My prediction thread pick 52-13 BTW

That's historically been the way ND has won Games. Rushing and Defense. Loved how Coney was just form tackling temple RB's down in the 4th quarter. Like guess what you're tired and I'm just warming up.

Good opener. I still think we're going to have to win shootouts against the better teams. The key will be Wimbush who played well and made good decisions moving the chains. I think another receiver is going to have to emerge other than St. Brown, but even if one doesn't if Wimbush can keep those chains moving we'll score a lot of points. Were better prepared defensively, but I still think a a lack of depth inside and a slow secondary is going to give up points against the better teams.

I couldn't watch the game but does anyone think this win was enough to get us ranked?

Agree with you for the most part on the run game. However, I still saw us not getting much push on some short 3 and 1's which was a little concerning. But overall I was pleased with the offense and run game.

Couldn't disagree with you more on the defense though. While I saw improvement from last year, I still see this defense being a major issue when we play good teams. The D line with the exception of Daelin is average at best. And our secondary isn't much better. IMO, I think we are going to struggle getting off the field on the D. We are going to have to win shootouts against the good teams.

Give the defense its due today

No BIG PLAYS

3 sacks which is good for any group yet alone a team that took 5 games to get 1 last year

Pressure on the QB was the best ive seen in a long time

They held on 4th down

They held on the critical drive after the Pick

They were solid tackling

And without the off sides they likely would have held them to 10---Temple had to work HARD for everything they got instead of 40 yard plays over and over

===================

Sure they will find it much tougher against stronger offenses and offensive lines

But you can only play the team that's out there and today

THE DEFENSE WAS STRONG today and deserves credit

I thought they were very good. Very much like what I expected. Made the opposing offense go on long times. Forced FGs, like Wake Forest, just made the game very uncomfortable for Temple. I APPROVED of the defense.

Like^^^^^^^

It may have been frustration & lack of viewing last year, but damn! Did Josh pack on some considerable meat?

yea josh looks like a monster out there----big tall fast------and that odd upright style makes him looks scary good---what did he end up with something like 165/170 ----running behind our line he'll be a handful for any team

This defensive line is going to cause us heart ache down the line. We have no bulk in the middle and once the injuries come it is going to awful to watch.

And what the hell is going with the WRs?

I think it was a nice win and still think we beat Georgia. But in no way I am confident of this kick starting a magical run.

One thing that will help the D out, and many have said it for years, a good ground game. Eat up the clock and march downfield. The defense, even if average, will benefit a lot by getting breathers and not dragging themselves out there every three and out cause we want to chuck it. If the coaches are worth their salt they'll figure that out finally.

The offense needs to score and do it early. Always receive if we win the coin toss and go 7-0 up. Force them to pass as our front 7 is going be gashed so badly if teams think they can control the clock and run on us. This is so important for next week.

Also how is Greer Martini possibly starting for ND? A guy so limited athletically like has to be a 100% tackler and absolutely cannot whiff as badly as he does. He can't even slow guys down for the second tackler to get there! The recruitment and player development on defense has been nothing short of shambolic for the past few seasons.

Only so many plays and balls, the TE's were active throughout the game, Claypool made a nice grab late and we rushed for over 400 years and a total of 600 yards in of total offense.

I thought the front 7 played stout with a ton of rotation as promised and got a ton of minutes for a ton of kids. Gave up under 90 yards on the ground with 3 sacks.

Good first game to me with the fist to the second always showing the greatest improvement.

I agree. Not sure what exactly people are looking for.

85 yards, 11 tackles for loss and 2.3 per carry from the run defense. Only 1 or 2 games in the last 2-3 years exceed those rush D numbers.

Pass D needs some work, but for a first effort under Elko, I'm not sure how you can't be optimistic.

That second paragraph is key too. We rotated a lot of guys in the game, and that's good especially for the D for guys to get plays in. Two frosh in the 2 deep DL, better to get game time vs Temple and spell the older ones than thrust into action vs UGA with nothing.

The passing game will get better and guys will step up. With a better run game or rather more emphasis on it will take away the focus of the pass hopefully. Let the run set up the pass rather than the other way around.

I love the added dimension of...wait for it...a QB under center. It's amazing how backs can run downhill and get momentum taking the ball versus a shotgun, thereby hitting the holes harder and faster. Just think of what it could do to minimize bad snaps in inclement weather...

ND is 5th in country for run offense.

ND is 5th in country for run offense.

When you take out games vs FCS teams, ND is number 1.

Impressive note.

Thnx
