Whether the issues that caused the supposed 26th best statistical team to finish 4-8 were corrected, I don't know. But here is hoping they were.

I won't click that junk. Who cares if we were the greatest? We were still 4-8. Lame. Did you get a lot of participation trophies?

Nope, can't say that I did. But I did get an intellect, so I have no problem looking deeper in teams, for better or worse. It might do you some good to read through the SB Nation previews for teams. They are really well done. So I assume you agree that 2012 Notre Dame was one of the greatest regular season teams of all time. After all, they went 12-0.

Your dazzling intellect is so over whelming that you have to believe what you posted matters in some way. We were 4-8 man. Who cares.
August 28, 20177 yr Author That is not a comparable thing at all. Your dazzling intellect is so over whelming that you have to believe what you posted matters in some way. We were 4-8 man. Who cares. I didn't say that the record keepers should change the record books and make ND an 8-4 team last year. I'm only pointing out that they played better than their 4-8 record would indicate, which is hopefully a positive for this season. ND has many of those players returning and supposedly better coaching. If you don't want to see that there is some hope for this season, that is up to you.

Great we may not stink as bad. None of this matters til we play a game. Last year was horrible no matter what the stats say.
August 28, 20177 yr Being the tallest midget-even if true- is no solace for the shiite fest we witnessed. Didn't click the link. Glad the season starts Saturday and all this bs stops.
August 28, 20177 yr Author Polishing a turd is still a turd. Great we may not stink as bad. None of this matters til we play a game. Last year was horrible no matter what the stats say. You're missing the point. Last year was horrible. It doesn't matter that they played better than their 4-8 record. You are what your record says you are, and 2016 was a 4-8 football team. They were bad, the entire season was a disappointment and Kelly probably should have been fired for it. However, looking towards this year, the way that team got to 4-8 means more than their record. I'd rather be going into 2017 with a team that could have won 8 games but only won 4 than a team that got blown out vs anyone with a pulse and won the same 4 games. And to be clear, the article is a preview of the 2017 season. It isn't discussing whether ND was the best 4-8 team of all time, that was my addition to the information within the article. The article itself is a very good preview discussing the strengths and weaknesses of this team.
August 28, 20177 yr If you're a legit 4-8 team then you have almost no hope of a 4 or 5 game improvement the next year. We didn't have 4-8 talent and it was a bit of an aberration which makes it more realistic to think this team can win 9 or 10 games this year. It's not completely unheard of like it would be for most 4-8 teams so I understand what you're saying Cory and agree.

August 28, 20177 yr Its just like ND fans to look for a "greatest of all time" label buried under the pile of sh!t that was the 2016 season. We are what they think we are.

It's just like ND fans to not even read an article, but get butt hurt about someone's opinion of their team. Read the article. If you still can't see why I posted it, and labeled ND the best 4-8 team ever, well, I don't know what to do then.
October 24, 20177 yr I'm absolutely positive we would have destroyed every 5-7 team last year...maybe in history.
October 24, 20177 yr I'll just put this here for now. FSU might take the crown from us after only one year as best 4-8 team.
October 24, 20177 yr FSU might take the crown from us after only one year as best 4-8 team. DAMN! Stop raining on our parade, Pregame!
October 24, 20177 yr I guess I missed this thread when it was first posted but sheesh, the point went right over cali-domer's head
October 24, 20177 yr Author FSU might take the crown from us after only one year as best 4-8 team. Could be, but they have some work to do. Losing the QB really hurt them. Last year ND came in at 26th in overall S&P. They should have had 7.2 wins based on the stats, so they underperformed by more than 3 wins, which is one of the biggest amounts I've ever seen. So far, FSU is 40th and only underperforming by half of a win statistically. I get this is all only stats mumbo-jumbo, but it is neat to see how it plays out the following year. The teams that underpeform the most one season tend to make the biggest improvement in wins the next, even though they don't always get much better, they just "win" as much as they should.
October 24, 20177 yr Author Has there ever been a team with more one possession losses? Not sure. But interestingly, two other teams with among the worst underperformance were Michigan St at 2.0 wins and NC State at 1.5. They are both also having much better years this year than many thought they would.
October 24, 20177 yr We had a top draft pick at QB--2 explosive backs--NFL talent on the OLINE--a coach with 2 undefeated seasons and a title appearance--and a roster loaded with 4 stars and high3 stars--plus a top 10 pre-season rank So the answer to the original question is YES---we may have been the best 8 loss team ever IMHO it took EFFORT to lose 8 games and Kelly and his entire staff getting fired would have been fair BUT..... This season looks much, much better---most of the staff was fired---and we have a chance to UNDO much of the horrible outcome of last year hopefully a great 2017 will make the disaster of 16 even more of an historical curiosity rather then the start of a downward spiral aloha
Maybe.
