I can't stand when Kelly acts like he was right there during all of these medical procedures.

"We" doesn't include you here big guy.

Hopefully Cage is healthy, he'll need to eat up space in the middle. Never good when big guys are having knee issues. They never seem to be the same. His game is being a space eater though, so hopefully he doesn't lose too much.

Technically it does. We is Notre Dame Football and everyone associated with it, including the team physicians at Notre Dame Orthopaedics.

He should be fine. It was just a bucket tear in the Meniscus. Some easy shaving and a few sutures and he'll be 100% for camp.

Have you had a bucket tear in the Miniscus, or are you an Orthapedic surgeon?

According to this Orthopedic Surgeon, "after surgery you will be on crutches for a while to protect the stitches and allow the meniscus to heal. After therapy and waiting enough time for the meniscus to heal, many athletes can enjoy a full return to activities after repair of a bucket handle tear. Return to sports after the repair of a bucket handle meniscus tear can take 3-6 months or more."

Doesn't sound a cut and dry as you make it out to be. And that doesn't factor in the weakness in his leg that will develop before he can start to lift with it again.

I had a partial meniscectomy for a bucket (handle) tear in my early 30's and I was told to give it two months. I was back at 100% for the Chicago Pro-Am in 6 weeks with just a week of PT. Haven't had a problem with that knee since.

I remember if they were to try to save the entire meniscus, it was 3 months iso on the knee and then there would have been some atrophy issues to overcome in PT so I passed on that because I would have missed the entire league.

I get where you're coming from with this input, but an amateur bball tournament is not quite the same as being a DL for ND when it comes to recovering from this kind of surgery.

So Dr. Yergler told me it was 2 months because I was an amateur by that time but would have told me it was longer had I been an amateur football player?

Do amateur basketball players put less stress on their meniscus than amateur football players? I've not read any studies on the topic.

Umm yes amateur bball players have less stress on their meniscus than quasi professional football players for a national stage school.

Studies unnecessary.

Lol

Hopefully he won't put on a ton of bad weight while he's laid up. A nutritionist should be involved to keep the ballooning from inactivity to a minimum, and the trainers find something to help him stay in some type of shape.

Regardless hope he recovers fully from all the nagging ailments he's had.

Umm... Lol

Umm... Study necessary.

Umm... If I were a former pro player, would I still have less stress on my meniscus than an amateur football players like Cage?

Umm... Would Cage be more likely to tear his meniscus than say a DT at Div II NW Missouri St?

Umm... Think before you peck.

You're only a pro at being a douche. Hope that doesn't strain much of anything.

Your Gus Macker tournament is light years from our prized players who get the best ortho treatment to ensure ND can capitalize on their investments...

Umm... I had my knee done by Dr. Yergler, ND's longtime team Dr. One of my former players is on ND's staff right now.

Umm... I beat your prized ND basketball players in '88.

Umm... When you get paid in Europe to play basketball, you know what they call you? And yes, I did win the Open division at Belding 2 out of 4 years.

Umm... Douche? Check yourself.

You think the strain on a golfer's knee is the same as a defensive tackle in the middle of the line of scrimmage trying to hold back 300+ linemen and having the knee exposed from all sides to contact?

Yes. Yes, he does. We are all athletes here, after all.
