LasVegasIrish
Saw this on twitter and found it interesting. Don't think it means much, but ND was 31-6 in games that Keivarae Russell started.

Russell was a good player but I think it has more to do with him being on good teams. 12 and 13 were some pretty good defenses under Diaco and 2015 we had a weak schedule and the offense carried us. Russell made some clutch plays vs USC, Temple and Virginia that all could have been the difference maker. Was a solid guy in 12 and shutdown teams number ones in 2013 minus a bad game against Michigan. So he definitely was a big part and we missed having that shutdown guy when Coleman went down. Definitely, this is more of just a random stat thing

That should be the case this year considering the personnel. Hope it happens.
LasVegasIrish
Yeah it's forsure interesting when you look at Kelly's record from 2014-2016. My main reason for posting this, is I don't think many people would have suspected a single player during the Kelly era would have that kinda record attached to their name. Peep the six losses though. ND won ZERO games of consequence in that time.

For all the flak Kelly gets, one of his senior classes set the record for most wins by a class, didn't they? I'm guessing the 2015 seniors, who had 39 wins. Of course they play more games now, but still.

Unless you define a win a consequence as a NC win, you are just wrong. Oklahoma 2012 stands out, but he's had a few wins good wins. Not nearly enough but I don't think it's helpful to be hyperbolic. I am confused since Lou Holtz had four classes that won more than 39 games: 1991 43-8 Holtz 1992 41-8 Holtz 1990 41-9 Holtz 1993 40-8 Holtz 2015 39-13 Kelly (Only 69th best winning percentage out of 125 ND senior classes) And I think the best class of all time was the 1949 class who went 36-0-2 with three national championships and a second place ranking in their "off" year. Oklahoma in 2012 is literally the only impressive win Ive seen under BK.... That OU team lost to K State and was absolutely demolished by TAMU in their bowl game. I was so pumped that night. Thought we were for real. But really, every time we play a big time game against a big time ranked program under Kelly, guess what? We lose. Thanks for posting this and the correction. I'm not sure where I remember something like that, but I thought somewhere along the line it happened, but clearly those Holtz teams had more total wins. Perhaps I was remembering that they were top 5 in total wins and had a chance to get close to the record, but fell apart and didn't end up making the playoffs at the end of 2015. KamaraPolice
I'm not going to argue semantics, but what if I said there was a 13-1 team that ended the season beating #2 Ohio state and #5 Stanford and would have played for a title if they didn't lose that one game? Would that be a game of significance? Because we beat that Michigan state team in 2013.
LasVegasIrish
Oklahoma definitely comes to mind as the big one. Obviously, the team has been awfully close in other games (FSU, Clemson). Especially the FSU game and the way it ended. I think anytime ND beats Stanford/USC though, it should be considered pretty significant.
