IRISHKENLIFER
wow is right! Wonder if there any recruits we could go after. I'm sure someone will bring up Stoops replacing Kelly next year, if he is still available. But this is big news!

I'm sure someone will bring up Stoops replacing Kelly next year, if he is still available. But this is big news! It's pretty obvious he has been told the ND job is his after this year. I saw online that the OU plane was seen landing in South Bend. It's as good as done. Stoops to ND.

I'm sure someone will bring up Stoops replacing Kelly next year, if he is still available. But this is big news! Why would recruits go from a guy who just retired to one on the hottest seat in college football? If theyre concerned about coaching stability, we'd be just about the worst choice.... The eND
If Stoops couldn't win more than one national title at OU — it has been like 16 years — he won't win one at Notre Dame. But hell, I'd take one national title at Notre Dame every 16 years. :yo:
Irish_Convert
He's 56 so maybe he just wants to walk away while he's still young enough to enjoy retirement. He's also been a head coach at a major college for a long time and that probably gets to be a drag after awhile. Plus, he's made his money and then some. ELDER06
For those who think he's done, he's the same age as Sabam when he took the Bama gig.

Handsome Jack
Let him rest a year to recharge like Urban did. Then hire him next season. What am I talking about, Kelly will win 6 games and be brought back because it's an improvement.

Irish_Convert
Sure is odd timing though...hmmmm.... "Oklahoma hit with major NCAA sanctions" Maybe, maybe not but only he knows for sure. He had a pretty successful career and maybe he felt like he had already hit his peak. Shoot, I wouldn't mind a coach at ND who finished top five in the rankings something like half a dozen times in eighteen year and in the top ten over ten times or around that. corysold
I'd give an unknown a shot before hiring Stoops...we already know his ceiling. If we could get a title in his second year again, I'd give him $30 million a year for two years. As to my first post, that was entirely untrue and meant to be a joke. The running joke with coaching searches always seems to be where the school plane is going.
