echo88
After last season, Ive lost hope that he will get fired based on season record only. 4-8 is completely unacceptable, regardless of availability of suitable replacements. I was convinced he was done. And after Jack let him dabble in the pursuit of alternate employment, I knew it was going to be rough sailing. You're either all in or you're all out. ND isn't just a paycheck like it seems to be treated by that clown. And to be completely honest, my desire for him to be fired has equally to do with his "blame the players" mentality and resistance to change as it does with Ws and Ls.... I could accept one 4-8 season from a coach whose heart and head were in the right place.
corysold
What makes you think that this is a 10 win team? We are void of any elite talent and the schedule is difficult imo. Is there even one first round caliber player on this team? Maybe there isn't a 1st rounder, but how many opponents with 1st rounders are they going to be playing? Outside of USC and maybe Georgia, are the teams ND is playing any more talented than they are? This team won't go toe to toe with Alabama, but they ought to be able to beat 9-10 of the teams they play.

goirish83
Personally I would say 9+ or he's gone, but as others have said I've lost all faith in Swarbrick and think it'll take a lot for him to fire his boy.
corysold
...said every Notre Dame fan for the last 7 years.... I didn't say "will", I said "ought", which is why I'd have no problem firing Kelly for anything less than 9-3.

Domer Dude
Can we kill this bloody thread. My 0-12 comment was for a reason. We were 12-0 a few years ago. We've been rocked by 2 scandals twice in a row taking the energy away for team. Let's see who rises to the top this year. Last year things didn't click. When things do it is pretty amazing what can happen like in 2012. We've got some tough teams on the schedule with Georgia, Stanford, USC all in the top 15. MSU lost a lot of kids. I am less worried about the record than how we play. If we take it to these teams and they go away saying wow I don't want to play them again, win or lose, then I am fine. Haha that was my point. We've been saying for 7 years now what our record should be...yet we are usually disappointed. And that is exactly why BK exhausted his chances long ago. Even if he manages 9 wins this season, we still have a bag of $hit running our football program. We're talking about a guy who somehow managed a smoke and mirrors undefeated campaign in 2012. So I personally dont care how many wins he gets this season---I want him gone. Edited April 25, 2017 by echo88

Problem is that Kelly never fields a team that will compete with teams in the top 15... NEVER...Holtz may have had a few marginal seasons, but he always beat someone with who he had no business competing...
ottawand
Based on the uproar last year, I would have to think that he needs 8 wins to keep his job and even that may not be enough.
Frankus
For anything less than an 8 win season, I think for Kelly to get fired, Swarbrick will have to go first. I'm hoping for a coup where they fire Jenkins/Swarbrick/Kelly and wipe the slate clean. Then, they need a charismatic President like Hesburgh, an AD that has a lot of experience hiring successful football coaches and a HC who has a track record of winning in a major conference. Pregame
zero wins, thirteen losses should do it.
VCDomer
Must get 9 wins total (which includes bowl win). If he has 8 regular season wins in which there are 2-3 ugly wins that we got lucky in and the bowl loss, he needs to go. Jack will be safe regardless. I have watched Kelly stammer and stutter in several press conferences so far and he looks scared and unconfident. That worries me quite a bit. It's like he is already beat. It's gonna be a tough year guys.

Is there even one first round caliber player on this team Nelson and Mcglinchey Maybe, just maybe McGlinchey. He would still have to greatly improve. Guards rarely go in first round so Id say very unlikely for Nelson.
ELDER06
holy sh**... what a depressing thread... Are you telling me that after a 4-win season this fanbase doesn't believe the University still has a high enough standard for the football team to fire a guy that can't put together a competitive team after last year's debacle? Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I'll look at the schedule and drop in the W's that I believe this current team should be able to get: Temple - W Georgia - L BC - W MSU - W Miami OH - W North Carolina - W USC - L NC St. - W Wake Forest - W Miami - L Navy - W Stanford - L This represents a 8-4 season. If ND can't beat those teams at a minimum, BK should absolutely lose his job. In my mind, he's not safe unless he wins at least 9. The Irish are more talented than 10 of those teams. That gives him 1 or 2 losses for stupid coaching mistakes and he can still keep his throne. Hey Jack, set the bar at "mediocre" and that's what you'll get. BK is firmly on the hot seat. W's are the measure... no more excuses or empty promises of things to come. I hope he can do it... but no longer believe he can. You're paying too much attention to the bleacher bum crowd. They get off on spreading their fatalistic view on ND football bc they're terrible people. They'd tell you Kelly could go winless, beat up the Pope and still get a raise. They're just as out of touch with reality as the homers.
