cali_domer 298
“My original plan was to never de-commit because I thought that was bad,” Werner says. “But I say some things I will not do and I wind up doing them.” ‘There’s a lot of life left after football’ Werner visited Notre Dame three times in the first seven weeks of the 2016 season, but it wasn’t the start of the Fighting Irish’s disappointing 4-8 campaign that soured him on a future in South Bend. Rather, he said, it was the negative energy that emanated from the program’s players during his visits that caused him to consider looking elsewhere. “I was on a visit and stayed with the players and they didn’t have good things to say about the program,” he said. “I’m a freshman and they’re juniors and seniors. Going into a program, am I going to go there for four years and not like what I’m doing?” https://www.landof10.com/ohio-state/pete-werner-ohio-state-profile-2017
ndomer4 532
If this is the type of stuff our players are telling recruits then I'm surprised we are recruiting as well as we have been. Can't imagine this is the first time it has happened either.

But I'm sure people dismiss it as an angry recruit. But I think it is a symptom of our program it is rotting from the head down.

Vibes from players and recruits seem to be very positive now. It is well documented that negative vibes were coming outta south bend this past season tho. davislove 0
A 4-8 record will drop everyones spirit. It would concern me more as a recruit if all the players were happy. The Kid just got poached that's all. A year or so ago articles were written about how many guys kelly poached and not losing a singles recruit in the cycle. cali_domer 298
The saddest part of that whole article is that we are losing the argument(40 yr. Decision) that there's life after football to the Ohio State University. That should be concerning.
goirish83 0
Like you said this is something that has been out there for a while under Kelly so not really breaking news. Hopefully either the changes that were made this offseason changed this for the better or hopefully he'll be gone after this season
ELDER06 248
Didn't Michael Young say the same thing about the players at Oregon? It happens when you have a sh1tty season.

Yet in the end, he decommitted because ND didn't seem fun. You're not gonna make your point by a kid choosing OSU. They're a good program. No shame. corysold 0
Can anyone confirm that this is the first time a kid has badmouthed a program after he flipped? I really doubt this will matter at all. If ND goes 4-8 this year again, recruiting will suffer and players will be unhappy with the program. If ND goes 11-1, they'll have a top 5 class and every player will love it there. That's called life.
jfschellcrna 11
I'm sure Meyer NEVER badmouths ND........Add that to the disgruntled masses and its a recipe for decommitment.......

Dardo 19
We aren't going 11-1. While I agree with you're statement, that really isn't the point of the post you're responding too. Good try though...

You should read the article. "...as Pete considered his desired major — commercial real estate — he became impressed by Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business, which U.S. News & World Report ranks as a top-20 undergraduate program. Factor in the culture Meyer has cultivated with programs such as Real Life Wednesdays and Werner was confident the Buckeyes indeed had the bigger picture in mind." This is a kid that was a natural fit for ND who we lost because of a bad football culture in 2016.

Here's another Werner quote "But I say some things I will not do and I wind up doing them.” He's a teenager that changed his mind. And you don't know if he was a natural fit, when he committed BVG was the DC.

Going to OSU gives you a better chance at getting to the NFL if he were to succeed there, millions of dollars will set you up for more than 40 years. Every case is different and I could be wrong but I assume if a job came down to an ND guy and an OSU guy the guy with the ND degree gets the job 9 times out of 10. The amount of 5 star backers they get theres a better chance he never plays and ends up transferring, good luck to the kid.
