Kizer panned

According to the Milwaukee Journal, Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer was compared by an NFL scout to Jay Cutler because "he doesn’t win."

Kizer doesn't deserve all of the blame for last year's nightmare season at Notre Dame, but some scouts are heaping it on him anyway. "He should have gone back. I think it’s all there," a different scout said. "He’s gifted. But that team won five games this year. They have talent." Kizer is a two-year starter who had a career passer rating of 98.6. "He cranks the ball through the tight windows," said a third scout. "Big dude. He’ll stand tall in the pocket. It’s between his ears more than anything … and when he’s under pressure he doesn’t move in the pocket as well as you would like." Added a fourth scout: "The guy got benched. He had a lot of bad games. Doesn’t win. He’s a mess.:(

0% chance he falls past the second round. Still seeing that the majority of mock drafts (however meaningless they really are) have him slotted in the first round. The most current mock drafts have between 2-4 QBs taken, usually 3. Consensus seems to be Trubisky, Watson, Kizer, although a couple have Pat Mahomes ahead of Kizer and even Watson. (I find it hard to believe that a QB who only knows the Texas Tech air raid offense will be taken that high). I have also seen Kizer as the first QB taken. So who really knows - a lot will obviously change over the next month.

I get all the Kizer bashing after last season and even after the NFL combine, but bottom line, he has the size, athleticism, and arm strength of an NFL QB. I think he could go as high as 13 to Arizona (where multiple mock drafts have him slated). Later teams like Houston at 25 and Kansas City at 27 could also take him. He might not be a first round talent, but as a QB, he will be taken higher because of how the NFL values QBs.

He'll play in 3 or 4 years. He just needs time.

Amazing to think how his stock would be if his Soph and Jr years were flipped.

The "he doesn't win criticism is ludicrous"---as well as the cutler criticism---

On the first point==Kizer was TERRIFIC under pressure through all of 2015 even down to that last great drive against Stanford

He was BENCHED because Kelly was an idiot from texas and throughout the 2 QB approach of the first few games.

Its an EMPTY criticism based on a single poor season with so much blame to go around starting with the HC and the pathetic D

As far as CUTLER goes---he has had a long career and made millions despite never winning much often on sketchy teams and bears no resemblance to Deshone in any way----I SEE AS MUCH IN COMMON BETWEEN CUTLER AND KIZER AS I DO BETWEEN Mellisa Mccarthy and Margot Robbie!!

Kizer will go in the second round in my view and has excellent chances of becoming a productive NFL QB--- as good a chance as any QB we sent up there in the last 25 years.

aloha

Our line particularly in the run game didn't do him any favors. He'll do well given time and consistent targets. Kizer to Fuller was a thing of beauty.

If he isn't tossed into the fray as some NFL teams are prone to do and given time to develop, he will probably be fine. Well, as long as he doesn't end up in the QB graveyard known as Cleveland.

Another *possible* angle is that last year, teams had film on him as opposed to 2015. BK tried to play him the same way but teams adjusted.

He seems like a very bright young man. I have to think that he weighed his options and came to the conclusion that another year in this system would do more harm than good. Whatever the circumstances behind that are, I imagine he made the best decision to forego another year.

Part of me hopes that Cousins goes to Cleveland, as that drops the chance Kizer goes there. But at the same time, I'm a Skins fan and I wouldn't wish Cleveland on anyone but the worst of the worst people (Rich Gannon and Ryan Leaf, I'm looking in your directions ;) )

I think the criticism of him not being a winner is unfair. Only Weis's 2007 team was more poorly coached than Kelly's team last year. And it's arguable that Kelly's was worse because he had more talent. The biggest transition for Kizer is how much more quickly he's going to have to release the ball. For most of his ND games the O-line gave him tons of time to throw the ball, and even then at times he held the ball too long.

Kizer has been the victim of the hype associated with fans love and media savvy of taking advantage of Mock Drafts. Too much stock is placed in nothing more than entertainment. From a pro point of view, it's been consistent throughout he should have returned for another year but it was his decision to leave so now he must face the consequences. The problem for fans is the lack of true knowledge as to all the factors that went into the decision so while probably getting a evaluation of 1st or 2nd round, he made the call and now has to deal with the scrutiny. Don't forget these insider comments are coming post combine so despite Lynch coming out and praising him for his interview, it could be smoke or not an opinion shared by other teams.

I like the kid and think he did the best he could but there is no denying stats which clearly showed he tailed off in 4th quarter production vs qtrs 1-3. Considering we lost the majority of our games by a TD or less, Kizer, fairly or unfairly gets some of the blame and that's that.

If given the right environment, competent QB coach, I think he can be a long term starter and all this pre-daft stuff will be forgotten before too long.
