tdnd81 2
I saw that. I hate to crap on Rudy but the whole story seams a bit off. I wonder if it was some pre deal of some kind.
jessemoore97 1,478
I heard that Rudy becoming a Mormon is all part of a secret plan to create a master race of walk-ons at BYU by combining his DNA and with the Osmonds!

Irish_Convert 1
It's worth whatever price some idiots are willing to bid it up to. I'm not a memorabilia guy to begin with, personally. You would have to twist my arm to get me to pay $241,500 for a house, let alone a forty year old piece of cloth worn by some scrub who played one snap in one game. When I worked in the stadium last year, I found some game worn gloves and cleats that I gave to a local alum/super fan because they meant nothing to me. I probably could have sold them for a couple, few hundred dollars but...I don't care about athletic artifacts, college or pro. Rudy has to be the most over hyped Notre Dame student ever and it's largely because some Hollywood schmuck decided his story would make for good entertainment. Most people probably call Sean Astin "Rudy" rather than "Sean" when they see him because that's how he's recognized for the most part. If the same people saw the actual Rudy up close and personal, they wouldn't have a clue who he was. I know I wouldn't. I'll give him credit though, he has milked his fifteen seconds of fame for all it's worth.

jessemoore97 1,478
Yeah, about 150x more people saw him in Lord Of The Rings... Yeah, I'd call him Samwise or Mikey before Rudy. But he is in some of my favorite movies though: Ring Trilogy, Goonies, and Rudy.
JTennant 290
Montana claims that they lifted him off the field as a joke and the jersey story on Devine's desk never happened.. While I appreciate the movie(kinda) most of the movie was conjecture. If you replace the one fact that the guy was over 6' tall and as big as anyone else on the team, the story line makes no sense.. EddieAngel 605
I still think Montana is a douche for debunking the myth. It serves more value in it's fictional state than the truth does. It is what it is though. To me, the whole carrying off the field bit and the jerseys on the desk scene are really just a little shine on a story that might not be Hollywood material at it's core. But why get hung up on those little details? I look at the whole thing and I see it as a story about a blue class kid who dreamed of something bigger than what life gave him who worked his butt off to make it happen. I don't really care about why they carried him off the field or if Montana liked him or not, I only care that the guy worked against his adversities, made the most of his opportunities, and didn't settle for anything less than his dream. He wanted to run out of the tunnel in front of screaming fans, mission accomplished. That said, I would happily hang the jersey on my wall as a symbol of hard work and determination, but I would not do so for the tune of 241K even if I had that kind of money to **** away. Still, I think that the item has merit regardless of what Montana says or whether the movie holds up to reality. But that is just me. Steiner can vouch for walk-ons with severely limited playing time typically fetching around $200 for game worn jerseys. I don't care who he is and I personally dislike him. Whoever bought this set is a moron.

While I appreciate the movie(kinda) most of the movie was conjecture. If you replace the one fact that the guy was over 6' tall and as big as anyone else on the team, the story line makes no sense.. But since Dan Ruettiger was pretty short (5'6"?) and played on the DL as a walk on and got a sack in one of the only two plays that he got on the field there was the foundation of a very entertaining story with a feel good ending. Sort of reminds me about the Milan team (who Hoosiers was based on) being not such an underdog as portrayed in the movie since they made it to the state semi-finals the previous year and had four starters return from that team. As an aside, I never met Dan but knew 4 or 5 of his brothers. Most were very short and two were state champ wrestlers in high school and another a world class power lifter (drug free). Pregame 291
Joe Montana came to a senior week party we hosted for the parents of my roommates/friends. That's a better story than Rudy, imo.
Irish_Convert 1
Yeah, about 150x more people saw him in Lord Of The Rings... I'm not a movie buff in general (I haven't set foot in a movie theater in around twenty-five years, once or twice since the early 80's) which is one of the reasons why I don't care one way or the other. I saw "Rudy" back when it aired on a cable movie channel in the 90's but otherwise I wouldn't know Sean Astin from Adam. If I'm in the minority, oh well. I'll live. :noidea:

FaithInIrish Forever 5,570
Met Rudy once myself about 2-3 years ago. He was a motivational speaker at my dad's employee breakfast. We took a photo. I talked to him about Joe Schmidt at the time. Fire alarm kept going off at my University (where the talk was held) He had to restart his talk like three times.
