EddieAngel 605
Not a huge surprise. I think it is a bad move but he is inside so he knows more. With last year not being great it seems like he could benefit from one more good season, but crowded backfield... coaching uncertainty, etc... Wish him the best. http://notredame.247sports.com/Article/Notre-Dame-RB-Tarean-Folston-to-the-NFL-49542656?utm_source=247Sports%20Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=170117_123015_Notre%20Dame%20Fighting%20Irish&utm_content=Link Edited January 17, 2017 by EddieAngel Added URL

DamshaBua 50
Not surprised he wont be back, surprised he is trying the NFL.. .I expected him to go somewhere like Western Kentucky Has he graduated? I expected him to be a 5th year graduate transfer somewhere. I'm not surprised he is leaving either, but mildly surprised he is going to go straight to the NFL first. irishrb 0
Awesome person! I really wish him the best. His injury obviously totally affected him. Hopefully he can push forward and end up as a third down back somewhere in the NFL!
die4irish 0
Transferring to Alabama would be like declaring for the NFL
corysold 0
What type of back is he going to be in the NFL? He isn't fast enough to be a burner. He isn't shifty enough to be a 3rd down type. He isn't big enough to be a bruiser. I could be way off, I just don't see him making much of an impact at the NFL level.

He obviously didn't look like the same back this year, but if he can regain pre-injury form then I think he may find a spot. He'd probably be a 2nd or 3rd RB. Sure, but how many RB are ever the same after major knee surgery? A handful? I hope he does great, just not sure what his route to the NFL is. He hasn't played in two years more or less, who would draft him? So he is already fighting an uphill battle as an UFA.

ndomer4 532
He has CFL written all over him... Not sure Folston is the type of back you see in the CFL, they're either burners or bruisers. I could be wrong but I don't see him having a future in football after this year. His best bet would be to grad transfer and show scouts he has gained back his 2014 form. hawaiiirish 62
His chance of making an NFL team IMHO is near Zero. Now maybe if he played another year of college ball-- put another year between him and his injury---had a high productive season somewhere in college---then MAYBE But going directly makes little sense if he's serious aloha
irishrb 0
Pre-injury Folston was quite shifty, had good vision, great pad-level running, had good hands, and could pick up the blitz. He won't get drafted, but who knows...maybe he can make a practice squad and work his way up.
Pregame 291
I bet he figures if he's gonna play at all, may as well get paid for it. No sense in getting one year towards a worthless degree from W Kentucky while risking more injury. Just a guess.
tneun89 1,118
A 5th year would do nothing for his NFL chances. It would just add another year of wear and tear on his body. RBs don't last long in the NFL, so he might as well take his chances going the free agent route and trying to stick as the third string back or on a practice squad. A decent year at WKU or smaller school wouldn't do much to help his stock. If he has a good pro day, he'll get invited to a camp at least. Also, I thought he would fit the mold of Theo in he NFL. Theo just needed the right role for him. Which Detroit found. I find this to hold true for Folston too. He can pick up the blitz and had decent hands so he can contribute as a third down back. I think he'll find a home somewhere.
WeaverIrish 28
Seeing teams like Green Bay and Seattle quickly have no running backs on roster, maybe Folston will get a nod.
Irish_Convert 1
He should interview well as most ND players do and teams will consider all the intangibles. However, I see him as a potential late round pick or undrafted free agent. He just doesn't have the numbers or measurables. Good running backs are not hard to find in the draft and his best bet is probably to sign with a team local to the area or where he's from just to get his foot in the door.(Chicago, Indy, Detroit, Jacksonville, TB, etc.) None of that is his fault as the injury obviously affected him as well as the running back by committee approach by the staff. Who knows? In some ways he reminds me of Darius Walker with a lower center of gravity and DW managed to have a brief career in the pros. I wish him well, regardless. Baldy 1,725
I can see Folston doing well in the NFL. As some have stated, he's shifty, patient, and can catch really well.

yikityyakirish 0
he hasn't been right since his injury.... step too slow This has been general consensus from the analysts that I follow for draft who have watched tape on him. Too quote one "has some serious skills to consider, injury has killed momentum with most scouts though, will have to prove his skills at pro day to have name called on day three of draft"
Baldy 1,725
he hasn't been right since his injury.... step too slow Honestly, he's always been kind of slow. I guess with the injury it made him worse, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
