Cripes, even UConn knows when to fire a coach.

Though I am bit surprised he only got 3 years. I wonder if there is more to this story. He did have them in a bowl game last year. This year wasn't pretty, but it is UConn for crying out loud. 3-9 isn't good, but it isn't far off what they are as a program.

Because this means a lot. How's Bill Belichick's coaching tree looking?

The NFL is a different league, even then he produced Saban, Ferentz and O'Brien who is winning with major jokes in a qb driven league.

You want a good comparison look at the Meyer and Saban trees. What is more telling is his actual body of work which is not pretty, the failure of his shrub just adds to it.

So in 20 years of being a head coach, his coaching tree produced 2 successful college coaches and 1 average nfl head coach. Man, you gotta fire Belichock NOW. Because his coaching tree is really what matters right. This Kelly hate is getting more and more pathetic

No the Kelly hate is coming from his 4-8 season, his average of 8 win seasons and maybe 2 or 3 notable wins in 7 years but hardly a signature win. 2 major blowouts in BCS games, blaming players, death of a student, not firing assistants, not being held accountable etc... Franklin just took his team to the Rose bowl, won the big ten and beat Ohio State in his 3rd year and first off sanctions. The hate is very warranted.

The comment isn't a reason to fire him, the facts above are. I take a jab at Kelly and someone like you gets his panties in a bunch thinking I'm using it as a reason to fire him... Bellicheck has won 4 Super Bowls and might be the best coach of all time while Kelly has a 2012 season with a win at Oklahoma, and a 2015 season with signature wins over Navy and Temple as his body of work at ND.

I hate Kelly but I watch every game and cheer them on because I love ND. He's lucky he's got a great DC and improving his supporting cast because I really feel like we could get to 8 wins next year with the changes.

Worst winning pct in UCONN history with a minimum of 10 games as head coach

You think? Would be a nice hire but I think he'll get a DC job pretty soon.

Sitting on a buyout. I would not rush into a high pressure gig, Bank accounts full for two years. The Quinn route of Analyst or assistant strength coach would be right up my alley. Who knows Diaco might want to be right back on the front lines

I can see a certain Defensive Analyst named Bob Diaco returning to South Bend for a short time.

I'd like ND to hire him to just to end this recruiting cycle with his patented "In Your Eyes" 5:00 a.m. John Cusack move on a 5 star defensive end a la Stephon Tuitt…[ame]

I'm not suggesting he's a great coach. Only that it isn't as though he took over a 10 win team when a coach moved on. They were a 3 win team when he took over. He won 6 last year, which is pretty good for UConn and had a bad year this year.

Just seems odd is all. I get going for the next big thing, but is UConn a destination for any up and coming coach? They are going to be after the second tier of small time coaches.
