Replacement for Sanford?

This guy's "prolific" offense put up all of 7 pts in last week's FCS semi-final vs. James Madison. And the 7 pts came late in 4th quarter with James Madison up 65-0. No thanks.

How bout Sterlin Gilbert from Texas? He's a QB coach by trade, which we also need, power rushing offense, got great play from a true freshman center, runs it out of the shotgun spread as Kelly likes, seems like a good fit. And I've gotta think we can pay him more than USF. He's the leading candidate at Ole Miss though, so have to move quick to get him.

I don't think it really matters. Here are Notre Dame's rank in total offense and scoring offense throughout his 7 years at ND, under 3 different OCs.

Scoring offenses

2016: 55th

2015: 34th

2014: 40th

2013: 74th

2012: 80th

2011: 49th

2010: 66th

Total offenses

2016: 64th

2015: 27th

2014: 34th

2013: 68th

2012: 54th

2011: 35th

2010: 61st

They have literally NEVER had a good offense under Kelly, even as the OCs all end up with head coaching jobs, so I'm not sure what we expect to change this year.

Does anyone even know what Sanford's duties were that need to be replaced?

Yeah as far as I knew he was just the backup quarterbacks coach, he was extremely underused here and it was a complete disservice that kelly didn't give him more input. But then again he wasn't one of Kelly's boys. I dont understand the point of ever bringing him in if you weren't going to use him anyway

Makes perfect sense considering Kelly is basically the offensive coordinator on game day.

Let's just hope that part of the offseason changes include Kelly finally giving up the offense to the OC.

I say let Kelly run the offense.

We hired some guy from Cincy with one of the best offenses in college football, teams had fits with his up tempo offense. We have not seen it once here and have been stuck with incredibly average offenses the last 7 years.

Go back to what made him successful and what we thought we were hiring. This is the best option as well all have thought he handcuffs whoever he names OC.

Excuse me,but what the f#*k does is matter who we hire as an O coordinator?!!

Kelly calls the plays on gameday. Always has, always will. Everyone else is just a practice puppet.

It's doesn't. Just as with the talented players we bring in under BK, you can expect underperformance from assistants too. It starts and ends with Kelly and I don't give a $hit about who we hire or recruit until he's gone. Because none of it matters.
