UncleJoe 0
Who can we get to be the defensive coordinator? Any ideas, preferably realistic ones, floated out there?
KellyisNasty 0
Who can we get to be the defensive coordinator? Any ideas, preferably realistic ones, floated out there? No one of any merit is going to come work under a deadman walking who has a reputation of not listening and taking over a coaches role at any moment. Its going to be Elston. hawaiiirish 62
From past experience it seems we are LIMITED---- Kelly likely will know the person he picks--He may very well have worked with him before at some point-- It is unlikely he picks anyone that will be TOO INDEPENDENT--or TOO ASSERTIVE within the coaching staff The odds Kelly goes outside of his comfort zone to someone with a RESUME and TRACK RECORD that's strong but Kelly does not know at all--the odds of that are low IMO...Elston of course would fit the bill Kelly like his offense and play calling has become very predictable as the years have past. aloha
LasVegasIrish 0
Elko and Snow are probably realistic possibilities. My guess is we will hear something very soon. At least some reports on who ND is interviewing or in contact with. It's certainly refreshing to see that Kelly will let the defensive coordinator choose his own staff, especially if he hires from the outside. The things that Kelly says and the things he actually does have been far apart during his tenure. I am skeptical that he learned not to be a meglomanical control freak in one season. Especially when his boss let's him usually do whatever he wants.
tneun89 1,118
We will probably start hearing names soon, once the dead period for recruiting starts (I think this week).

gipper2nd 0
No one..............all the good ones are taken...............Besides, if they're good....Kelly won't take them; ( he doesn't like being up-staged).
KamaraPolice 0
Todd graham will be available next October. Kelly can't seem to beat him.

KellyisNasty 0
Ummm... same could have been said for Aranda and Miles last year Aranda got his own contract apart from Miles. JS is not going to do that to his best buddy Brian, and Kelly would throw a temper tantrum that would make Jesus blush. Not going to happen. KellyisNasty 0
Agree to disagree Just curious in the history of JS and Kelly makes you think they would ever do the right thing for the program? BVG had to be forced out of his job by the administration before Kelly would do what was best. How did JS find his sack in a few days and cross Kelly by handing out a separate contract to a better coach then Kelly, and basically make Brian one step away from being replaced after losing 3 games? JTennant 290
What's wrong with Elston? We just need a good teacher that can get the players motivated. I think we could be a top 10 team with a consistent top 40 defense. I think someone with a simple scheme would work really well with our athletes.. Maybe adopt more of a Diaco approach. I like the idea of a split safety defense though, who knows.

As you said, JS essentially canned BVG. That to me is evidence.
