College football playoff

Maybe I missed this in another thread-but now that the college football is set, and tOSU making it in, does this bold well for ND making it in without joining a conference? I mean, didn't the committee just show that winning a conference does not matter. As long as you win against top 10 teams. Thoughts?

I believe your logic to be correct for anyone but ND.

ND would have to be undefeated to make it into the Top 4.

What this round of the CFB Playoff shows is that four teams is not the right number. Gotta expand to 8 in order to not shaft deserving teams.

Yeah especially with how weak our schedules have turned out recently. 8 team would have got pen state, Michigan, Oklahoma and probably Wisconsin in which I would have been fine with. I really think Michigan is a team that could beat anyone this year.

The committee certainly got it correct IMO. 4 best seasons made it.

I agree about the 4 best seasons. But I don't think the 4 best teams made it. Sadly, and I really hate to say this, Michigan is definitely one if the 4 best teams in the country. So in that sense I don't think they got it right. Michigan would have a shot against Bama. Washington I don't believe so

Michigan was the only team with a "shot" and that was very small to begin with. Washington has no chance, neither does Clemson or OSU.

Might as well hand it to Bama, I have no clue what is going on down there but there's no way it's legal.

What's going on down there is that they are doing what it takes to win. They know how to win, they know how to coach and recruit. If nd was as committed to winning instead of settling for mediocrity then nd would be in the playoffs.

Not that I'm trying to steer the thread in this direction, but if you have a decent defense you have a chance against Michigan. Bama would smoke them I believe. Michigan's offense isn't at a championship level. I think that's why they would lose to Clemson also. Stopping Watson is very difficult and I think he would eventually carve up Michigan's d in the end. Washington could be better then we think. Or they could be ND in 2012. We shall see.

To me, it looks like the committee looks at the overall season, domination, who you played and are you on fire at the end of the year. Head to heads don't mean squat. The chairman came on to talk to college football live and pretty much even said so.

Michigan's D is better than LSU's and they held Bama to 10 points. Michigan d would give any team problems. Second best in the country. Don't think they'd win but I could see a 17 10 type game with them having a shot.

It doesn't really matter though, Bama gonna win another title

It's going to take A LOT of luck and turnovers to beat bama. Every person on that team looks/plays like they juiced up...Totally stacked, and lots of speed.

How about making Bama play in something other then 78 degrees? I want to see those guys play in the elements.

It wouldn't matter per se. Last week's game saw them lose there starting corner. The replacement looked like our starting defensive end. They are on another level in terms of weight training.

Although I agree with you, I think it needs to be proven on the field to deserve the chance to go. All the other teams had 0 or 1 loss, and were more deserving. I don't think it should be given to the 4 best teams. It should be given to the 4 best seasons.

I saw a video of Auburn's player going through their strength program and they had guys pushing stupid weight. I'm talking 3-4 plates on power cleans, highly doubt we have anyone pushing that kinda weight.

I wonder how Bama can be so dominant in CFB and only produce a handful of NFL prospects that I would consider successful. Most of the them define mediocre at the professional level and I wouldn't even bother drafting one of their RBs.

I've always thought this was similar to the Pete Carroll hey days. Tons of talent with mixed results in the NFL. I would assume that these guys have so much talent that if you mess up somewhere, their is always someone else to back you up, cover your butt, throw to etc. once in the NFL, you don't have that luxury. So if you are going against someone as equally talented as you, you might not get open, make the tackle, beat the guy across from you etc. so they don't have as much diversity. Just my thought.

I thought they did a great job this year. A good cross section of each conference, I actually think this is the best playoff setup in the playoff era. That said I think Washington is going to get punched in the mouth and I think Clemson is the weakest team in all around. Could be wrong, hope so. Would love to see Washington win it, Pac-12 needs a serious credibility boost.

Best chance UW has is the defense. They can stay in the game with Bama because there defense is legit. Browning has to play well though if they are gonna win. He folds under pressure. He can't do that.

Honestly I didn't think Hurts was that good, but all around they manage to keep getting it done. Bama has not been the offensive juggernaut they were in the past several years, but they are good enough and they obviously put a spanking on Florida. But if Washington plays a clean game and the defense plays well, they are in it.

Wonder where Kiffykins goes after this year, apparently his tenure at Bama has entitled him to be associated with a couple of high profile open HC positions.

I don't think that's the case. Just last year, the committee showed they would put ND into the playoffs even with one-loss.

Heck, we weren't completely out of the playoff picture until the loss to Stanford

Yea Hurt's isn't that good (True Freshman so it's understandable), but they're actually putting up better numbers this year than previous years

2014 - 16th in scoring offense (Total offense: 18th)

2015 - 30th in scoring offense (Total offense: 45th)

2016 - Currently 13th in scoring offense (Total offense: 26th)

Admittedly, their scoring is probably helped a bit by their unbelievable special teams play...how many special teams TDs do they have? But I do know that the scoring offense ranking doesn't include defensive scoring, for which Alabama is currently ranked 1st

Jeebus this team is ridiculous in all facets
