"The Short List"

Every Notre Dame AD is supposed to have a "short list" of head coaching candidates tucked away in his desk. I'd like to do a profile on each one so that we can have our own list ready!

Short list

PJ Fleck

Mike MacEntyre

Les Miles

Chris Petersen

David Shaw

Mark Dantonio

Urban Meyer

Tom Herman

Skip Holtz

Bob Stoops

Paul Chryst

Bill Cowher

David Cutcliffe

Bill O'Brien

Justin Fuente

Mike Leach

Larry Fedora

Mike Gundy

Feel free to add more and pick a coach to profile!

Short list

Fleck- Wasn't a big fan a few months ago, but have come around significantly. I think he's the real deal, my number 1 choice.

MacEntyre- Huge fan. Turned around a deadbeat Colorado program.

Miles- Decent choice, not my top guy

Shaw- Doubtful

Dantonio- Doubtful

Meyer- Doubtful

Herman- Would be awesome, but probably going to Texas

Holtz- F**K no, failed at S. Florida, living off his dad's name

Stoops- Interesting, been in talks in the past but always fell through

Chryst- Doubt ND could get him away from his alma mater

Cowher- Out of the game way too long

Cutliffe- Too old, Duke has been bad since ND Game.

O'Brien- Interesting, depends on how the Texans season checks out

Fuente- won't leave after one year

Feel free to add more and pick a coach to profile!

Thoughts posted above. One other interesting possibility... Mike Leach.

1A Fleck

1B Macintyre

2. Narduzzi

3. Miles

I think these are guys we could actually get.. I don't put guys like Meyer etc, who we have no chance of getting.

Been on the Fleck train for awhile and Narduzzi, Mac is really growing on me. Colorado was abysmal a few years ago. His offense would do well with our personal, and his Defense seems to play tough as well.

I think the willingness will be less than we think. A lower level Urban-type is probably more likely. They will want to make the boosters happy, but I doubt the must-win mentality is there. I just don't feel it.

At this point if they fire him that's all the willing I ask. If we have to "settle" for someone cheaper like fleck that's fine with me, I'd prefer him over miles anyway

Miles is considered conservative? Isn't his nickname the Riverboat Gambler? I know his offenses are usually limited with their QB play but besides that, the guy tries a lot of entertaining chicanery.

well I meant running the ball over and over and being in a lot of 9-6 games.

The mad hatter goes for his share of fakes for sure

We need a homerun hire like Peterson, I don't know if he's out there or if that guy would come here but we can't afford to gamble on an unknown. We are so far behind we cant afford to not hit a homerun.

Not sure ND would go after him given his prior personal issues as well but you never know. Keep your head up, ND fans! And sorry if I sounded like a douche, Faith. Wasn't trying to but it could read that way. :)

Nah , man. I know you now, could never think that. Sign-ability or ND board of Trustees approved is always hard, great point
