cali_domer
2. Brian Kelly, Notre Dame – The difference between the Power 5 Conference Schools + Notre Dame has gotten to be so big in recent years we here at Coaches Hot Seat have begun to look at Head Coaches at Power 5 Schools Win/Loss Records against other Power 5 Schools and when we started to do that we found a STUNNING number with Irish head coach Brian Kelly. Since Notre Dame lost to Alabama in the Bogus BCS National Title Game on January 7, 2013 Notre Dame under Brian Kelly has posted the following Win/Loss Record against teams that are members of a Power 5 Conference: 22 – 17 (.564) At…NOTRE DAME! Oh…but check-out Brian Kelly and Notre Dame Football’s record against Power 5 Conference Schools with .500 or better records in the year they played them…. 10 – 14 (.417) Again….at NOTRE DAME! Sorry…but we here at Coaches Hot Seat must have a little higher expectations for Notre Dame Football than Irish AD Jack Swarbrick who evidently believes that… Brian Kelly can post ANY Damn record in 2016 and keep his job …which Kelly is going to test with the Irish now at 3 – 6 on the season and with wins over… Nevada Syracuse Miami ….which now have a combined win/loss record of… 12 – 15! Oh….Notre Dame has lost to THREE teams in 2016… Texas Michigan State Duke …that either already have confirmed will not or might not have a .500+ record in 2016! Oh the Joys of working at Notre Dame where as head coach you can now… Average over FOUR-PLUS losses a season …and keep your Damn job! We have some news for Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick and everyone else making excuses for Brian Kelly who is in his SEVENTH season in South Bend… In your SEVENTH season at Notre Dame you should be competing for a National Title…PERIOD…but then why should… We have HIGH expectations for Notre Dame Football when it’s clear the Athletic Director of the school for Damn Sure Doesn’t? http://www.coacheshotseat.com/
jon33dn
Perhaps if Jenkins wasnt admiring himself so much, he might notice that the cash cow and national profile driver of the university is suffering. The point is, and has been, that the current crop of priestly admins resent being known as a football school and deem this to be a good thing. They would prefer to resemble Duke/NW/Vandy. 2. ndomer4
We all know this, the only guy who is too stupid to do anything about it is Jack Swarbrick because his tenure is riding on BK's success with that stupid extension he gave. Like another guy mentioned he's a damn lawyer. We should be following the likes of Wisky and USC who have hired Alvarez and Swan as AD. We need a football mind in charge here I don't care if it is Lou Holtz, Brady Quinn, Joes Theisman, Tim Brown or whoever! A Lawyer is not going to fix this program and he definitely won't make the right hire. Fleck is a popular name here but I could see Swarbrick going and hiring someone noone has brought up or someone with no experience. BK wasn't a terrible hire, he did a few things here but the extension was the mistake and now we're in a bind cause we know his ceiling. ottawand
Let's wait until the season is over before we give up hope that BK will be replaced. I've felt for several weeks now that Kelly is a goner and he knows it, ever since BVG was forcibly removed from him (my opinion) Kelly just seems indifferent, almost as if he is going through the motions. When this season is over ND will likely be 4-8, with a bunch of humiliating losses not to mention Kelly's blame game which had to embarrass Swarbrick and the BOT, now there is this phony sideline dancing which just adds to the circus. I do not understand why folks feel that Brian Kelly getting an extension will protect him from getting axed. Bob Davie had a good season, signed an extension, went 5-6 the next season and was fired. Almost all contracts include provisions to cut them short. In ND's case, I would hope that having a lawyer with a sports background as AD would help to ensure that ND has appropriate language in the extension to part ways with Kelly if necessary. I was too young to be watching during the Davie years but started watching with my pops at the end of TW. I think if there were no extension he might have been gone already, and that's why I think it's protecting him somewhat.

ND will not launch a coach mid season, unless it's something highly illegal like murdering someone lol. It's not the way they do business. The time when it happens will be after the last game, probably on Monday.

LasVegasIrish
Change wouldn't bother me, but it depends who is his replacement. Overall, I think he has been fine, but he can't continue a clunker of a season like this. No excuses.
SpecialFNK
it's a shame that Notre Dame has fallen so far. it seems like there are many obstacles hurting ND's chances at being elite again. academic standards? higher rank people (Swarbrick/ect) making athletic decisions? this season is so embarrassing just for the fans, it must be worse for ND players/ND students. Jersey Irish
it's a shame that Notre Dame has fallen so far. it seems like there are many obstacles hurting ND's chances at being elite again. academic standards? higher rank people (Swarbrick/ect) making athletic decisions? this season is so embarrassing just for the fans, it must be worse for ND players/ND students. The academics have always been brought up as a reason for down seasons. But they have been the same from the get-go and will never change. Kelly can claim this is a "young team still learning" but that was not his tune coming into the season. These are mostly 4- star recruits from top 10 classes that he and his staff can't seem to coach up to the next level. And his coaching decisions on game day leave a lot to be desired. This year's schedule should have been easy to navigate with the talent level on it. Look at the record of the team we have lost to. Navy is the only Top 25 team! MSU has only beaten us and Furman. Duke has beaten Western Carolina and us.And so on. This season is all on Kelly . He needs to go as does Father Jenkins who does not care about Notre Dame's Catholic identity and only about turning ND into an elitist secular Ivy League school. Yeah part of the issue is that if this team goes 4-8 which looks very likely at this point what are the chances that it gets turned into anything more then 7-5 or 8-4 at best next year? It is extremely rare that teams flip records 5+ games in just one season. So we win 7/8 next year then what, does he get another season?
