This is the kind of domino that causes the others to fall. A BK coffin nail for sure. Hopefully this shows the administration that they do not have time to delay.

Exactly what I was thinking, the one thing this staff still had to hang their hat on was their recruiting but now even that is starting to fall. The administration needs to cut ties, yes they'll lose a lot of kids in what was going to be a great 17 class and what was the beginning of potentially an ever greater 18 class but it seems as though they're going to lose these kids anyway and maybe cutting ties now still gives them enough time to get some of them back. It seems like a better option then letting kelly flounder and leave these kids wondering what will happen

First Beal now Jeter, unfortunately our two best dline commits. It's the main difference between us and a school like Bama is the depth, size, and talent of the dline. The only time we were good recently we had KLM, Tuitt and Nix.

I was born in 93 so I wasn't around for the 'glory days' but I assume we had great dlinemen. Great teams stop the run and get after the qb often, things we are terrible at which is why we probably go 2-10.

I'm wishing Kelly would fall on his sword (resign) like Faust did, and save the university the turmoil and collateral damage from proceeding further on a downward spiral !

That is like an admission of guilt and will very possibly be more harmful to his future prospects than getting fired, as odd as that sounds. Even though there is a certain body of evidence suggesting he is a bull-headed blamestormer, he will likely find a soft landing place by explaining that no one could be successful at ND and it isn't his fault.

If he quits the onus is kind of on him instead of the university. I know it seems odd, but there is an argument for the perspective. That aside, falling on the sword would mean the university would not be required to pay out the remainder of his contract. ND can afford to throw away 4.5M for the next three or four years, Kelly can't.

He'll only fall on his sword when the University gives him one made of gold and worth about $20,000,000, the approximate value of the contract extension he signed in January.

I would be surprised if there wasn't some kind of language in the contract for arbitration and buyout in these kinds of circumstances. The University is going to be liable for some but if they learned absolutely nothing from the Charlie Weis experience I would be painfully surprised.

I'm sure an agent would fight something like that tooth and nail, but I think it's foolish to not have some kind of a way to sever things w/out full payout based on the current state of affairs, whatever they may be.

And you're right, especially for them after the CW debacle, they should be adamant about getting a certain level of employer protection in there.
