It has been a very longtime since we have had a recruit commit. When do you guys think the next commitment will be???? I think there are a few that are ready to make the commitment but are waiting. It just seems like there wasnt this long of a gap this time last year. Anyone can correct me or advise me on this??? thanks Chris

This weekend. Chris Little among a few others possibly. Chris Little is a stone-cold lock! Believe what you read from others on this site about his commitment this weekend.

i agree there will be a committment atleast one by monday

I'd love to see a Little/Sturdivant commit/change commit this weekend.

Is Sturdivant only a soft verbal, or is he just that interested in ND that you think he may change his mind after a good visit?

he is just that interested

It has NOT been a long time since we have had a commit--publicly. We have had quite a few silent commits over the last 6 weeks.

well said broke, very true

some think greg little's coach confirmed he is irish

IMHO, a lot of the recruits were waiting to see how ND performed in their first 3 games. The pundits continued their drum beat of, "teams not having winning records". But after GT and PS, Charlie has left them dry at the well.

With all of the recruits who visited last weekend and another long list of seniors and juniors expected on campus this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a number of commits; especially if they come away with an impressive victory over Michigan. I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Weis hasn't orchestrated events. With JC on campus, and working behind the scenes, the setting is perfect for some major developments. But first things first - beat Michigan!

Yes, but a silent commit is worth ... wait even a verbal isn't woth anything. I would like to here some public commits.

are you just contradicting yourself for fun jag?

a verbal is worth nothing but you want to see some public commits?

its all worth something buddy, everyone wants to see it public, but remember for recruiting sake the goal is to keep ND in the news so that the next class has ND on the mind

right now the football team is the story, when that goes into a boring stretch during the soft under belly of the season it will be important to have public commits so these juniors are remembring ND, while other teams are playing meaningful games

also it would be nice to be the story at the AA game, with JC and others playing and a bunch of kids verbing, instead of just one

plus remember these kids have to live in towns where there high school football teams matter, and in states with big instate U's, if publicly coming out is going to make it worse on them during the season then let them wait, if they don't want to come out so they can get free trips to see games at other schools then let them wait...

charlie only lost one last year who had given a silent, and none that had publicly committed, the one that had gave a silent, McCoy, was a unique situation and there wasn't anything we could do or that the staff was willing to risk doing, all the other kids stayed, and alot of thsoe were silents before it was public, so its obviously worth something, especially with this staff

who cares if its public? we know what kids are on board, there are reasons its not public, and they will be when the time is right, just be happy they are on board, the caliber of these kids havent been recruited to ND in a long time, and its a little different process then everyone just committing on the spot

Yes... it is the old "if a tree falls in the forest but nothing hears it, does it make a sound." To translate, "If a recruit silently commits but no one heres it, did they commit."

I agree that there are reasons why kids want to commit silently... One of those is that they want to commit a special day but another is that they are not sure and want to keep options open.

A player can always renege on a verbal, heck they can renege on a written if they sit out a year, but I'm sure there are alot more that break silents then that break verbal commitments. The psychological effect of making your commitment known to everyone is important.

That being said, my comment was intended to show that both a silent and a verbal are easily breakable... but from a personal standpoint I would like to see a few more out in the open.

you will see some coming up jag dont worry buddy

i know your point, im just saying its different then in years past these are top tier kids, and getting them to tell charlie they are on board means that atleast one person heard the tree fall, and that would be the most important person

Thanks TD... I'm not bitching. I'd rather wait to NSD and get 20 Top tier players than have 25 verbals from second tier guys already.

Well said, JAG. I couldn't agree more!

I'll ride shotgun with TD here on verbal. There's a powerful instate U pressure situation on some kids with going out of state. As an example I'll choose Brian Brohm of Louisville as I have seen this close up. The kid is a great QB at a Local Catholic HS, Trinity. I had high hopes of course he would choose ND. Back then ND was so-so in the Ty era and not like Weis 2005-06. Pardon the expression under Ty the name Notre Dame had no impact. And I say the 'Catholic pipeline' here is clogged with U of L and U of K fans. Here the 'good Ole Boy' network rules and it did not help that Brohm's two brothers had jobs at the U of L athletic office. It's Radio, TV and papers U of L U of K.

Your choice is simple be a BIG FISH in a small regional pond or get lost being a small fish in Ty's BIG (ND) pond. That's the moment I woke up smelled the roses and realized we haven't a chance in hell at ND with a coach like Ty. ND did not matter then just a none entity looking for a player.

ND matters now. Times really changed. But the pressures above were in Louisville with a large Catholic population and not say, deep south. My NJ priest source that informed me of Trattou, Ragone , etc., informs me of pressures from Boston. Now these are Catholic kids. A non Catholic in deep south is courting HUGE problems even mentioning ND.

The change simply is now under Weis the name Notre Dame calling really, really means your something.

you could'nt be more right there john! catholic prejudices can run deep; unfortunately, especially in the south.

Nice post SJ, good points.

in the south they are equal opprotunity assholes. they hate everyone equally. pretty sad!!
