According to Chris Sailer or Chris Sailer kicking, Shannon is the real deal and is rated as the No. 1 long snapper in the nation.

Works for me, congratulations to him. LS is one of those positions many people don't think much about until you're stuck with one that stinks.

Chris Rubio of Rubio Long Snapping, who has worked directly with Shannon for two-and-a-half years, ranks Shannon as the No. 1 long snapper in the class of 2016.

“He’s a very good athlete first and foremost,” Rubio said. “He snaps the ball as hard as anyone I’ve seen, and I’ve been doing this for 14 years. A good time to snap the ball 15 yards is .75 seconds, and he gets it there in 0.6 seconds.”

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect entered Junior Day at Notre Dame with offers from Army and West Virginia as well as interest from Alabama, Baylor, Colorado, Northwestern, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

“I know he was going to commit to Notre Dame if he was offered today,” Rubio said. “He was speaking with (Scott) Booker a lot. He’s a legacy there. It was his No. 1 school. It was a very similar situation to when Scott Daly committed to Notre Dame. He got the offer, and boom, he wanted to go there.”

Shannon’s father, Gerard Shannon, and grandfather played football for Notre Dame. His grandfather, Dan Shannon, was an All-American linebacker and Academic All-American. He graduated from the University in 1955.

I hate special team players and their rankings on these recruiting websites. So unfair. We got a 5* kicker last year. I thought rankings were about how good they do their job/play their position.

It's about their probability of going pro. This is why we have the moronic discussions about the number of 3 stars in the NFL. There are a few thousand three stars and only a handful of 5 stars. The 5 stars win the percentage game hands down, but you still have the shallow thinkers who will point out the first three star they see making plays in the NFL. Uggghhh...

If that were true then why do guys like Tebow and terrelle pryor get 5 star rating and after a few years in college the knock is that they can't play QB in the NFL?

I agree with Hoosier, a stud long snapper should be a 5 star. He shouldn't get penalized for his position. If you need a fullback and some ST players, your class is gonna take a hit ranking wise.

Do you know the freaking definition of "probability "? Jesus Christ...

Aren't rankings in general a probability? Player number 1 is probably better then player 16. I love it when people get all pissy when they can't back up their words.

I try to be a nice guy but I can dance all night if that's what you want to do. You might want to get ND Hoosier to run my plates before you opt to get into it with me.

With that said, your claim that rankings are based on probability of going pro is just plain dumb.

See I didn't want to say that in my first reply. I'm nice.

This is what I am talking about. I know it's tough to excited about a long snapper, but it is very important.

Welcome to Notre Dame John Shannon!!

Yep. The Cowboys had a great one in Dale Hellestrae for something like ten years up until 2001 and it took several years before they found a capable replacement. @Rocketsan, that would be Canadian L.P. Ladouceur.
