Yeah he's a body position receiver, he's about a tenth off where he'd ideally play well.

Can't come from a layoff and then expect to compete with guys who played all year.

Tough situation.

as Mariota runs an unofficial 4.52, 4.56

Winston 4.97, 4.99 unofficial

Not good for Daniels. Going to be tough to get drafted with those times. The NFL isn't going to look too kindly to his academic transgressions either.

Pretty impressive for a qb. Hear Philly wants him and may trade up to get him.

Even tho I'm not a Cutler hater as a Bears fan, I'd love Mariota on the Bears.

That would be cool. Think they are about done with Cutler.

4.97 for Winston. Not impressive. Also potential shoulder issues. Couple this with his obvious character concerns may be knocking Jameis out of the 1st round.

Yeah, Fox certainly didn't back him up the other day. If they can find a decent trading partner I think they do it. If not Mariota in the first I really like Fowler and Dupree. Think they both have the chance to be super stars in the NFL. At least one of them should be there at 7 if not both. A lot of buzz on Fowler recently though as a top 5 guy.

Joey Harrington was good at Oregon too.

System QBs always scare me in the NFL.

That was slower than I expected and that's not good for him. Yeah, he's had a long layoff but it's not as though he hasn't kept up with training. They're evidently supposed to be keeping up with 10 yard, 20 yard splits as well this year, I wonder if those will be available.

13 bench press reps as well. That's not awful for a WR but probably middle of the pack at best.

I would argue that Mariota is much more skilled than any QB to come out of Oregon. Not only that, but he has the body to handle hits and see over the top of the line and kill you with speed. With his work ethic, I'd be surprised if he doesn't succeed in the NFL.

I tend to agree, but I think back to Darron Thomas. He was really good at Oregon, left college early and didn't even get drafted. I honestly think Mariota and Winston both are 2nd-3rd NFL talent who may go 1st round. Definitely Mariota will.

Your joking right? Jamies is an NFL style qb, he ran the pro style offense really well in college. Mariota ran that gimmicky spread offense, great athlete and great thrower but you watch his tape its all runs and wide open passes. You see Jamies in a pro style offense throwing passes from the pocket and all the passes are in the tightest windows.

Also Winston was never a runner, but he can still make some big gains when a play breaks down. There's a reason Winston is widely accepted as the first player taken and Mariota only by a few, both will go in the top ten.

I've played qb I know how much tougher it is playing under centre than in the gun all the time, Mariotas best bet is to go to philly. With the weapons in Tampa Winston is a match made in heaven there.

Also terrible times for Daniels, don't see him getting drafted unless he can get that down to low 4.5 at pro day.

Daniels better start learning how to spell Saskatchewan.

Unfortunately DD cannot get drafted with that time , he will need to try and make it as a free agent which is possible , he has skills and his dad has friends , but that's too slow for the draft I think.

On Mariota---We like him out here for obvious reasons---

I would argue he is MUCH MORE then a system QB---he is a physical freak , so big , so fast, with a strong arm, and a real solid person....any NFL team wold be lucky to get him....

Yes he will need a year or three to adjust to NFL offenses but IMO a great get for any team

Your joking right?
Not at all. If this shoulder becomes an issue (throwing shoulder mind you), no way any team uses a 1st rounder on a qb with a questionable throwing shoulder. He's clearly not fast from that 40 time. 40 times are very important for where you get drafted, and this time did him no favors. Additionally, after the Aaron Hernandez travesty, character is valued more than ever in the league. You CAN'T miss on a 1st rounder.

Just a quick recap of Winston's character concerns:

1) Major sexual assault in FL that was seemingly swept under the rug by the pro-FSU atmosphere.

2) Shoplifting multiple times.

3) Brings a BB gun on campus and begins to fire at squirrels.

4) Jumping on the podium at a pep rally and shouting a disgustingly inappropriate and obscene verbal gesture leading to a 1/2 game suspension.

5) Even during the Clemson game he was suspended for, he dressed for the 1st half disobeying the suspension or just flat not listening to Fisher.

Point blank, Winston is not smart at all. Again, if this shoulder is an issue he drops significantly. Even without it, the character issues will always be in the back of his team's mind that draft him.

A scout told me Jameis Winston's shoulder is "bad." Categorized as a long term issue, not short term:

I think you guys are overreacting, that time is not surprising at all. Daniels has never been considered a burner.

Looks like his official time is 4.62. Keith Arnold tweeted that Daniels' 10 yard split was 1.58 and that is pretty slow off the break. That means he covered the last 30 yards in a little over three seconds, which isn't bad. Knock a few hundredths of a second off his start and he's into the 4.5s which at least looks better on paper.

Evidently both he and Koyack fared well during the position drills so there is that.

Both DD and Koyack will perform a full workout at ND's pro day so maybe he can work on his start and redeem himself.

Its true the time is not that terrible , but given Daniel's career problems and early entry with such a small incomplete resume he is automatically swimming upstream , so he really needs something extra to sell and the so so time does nothing to help him with that.

Depends on the depth of the draft and teams individual evaluation but I would say he needs lots a luck to get drafter in the last round or two.

aloha's

I would be disappointed if I was Daniels and those times. He needed an impressive showing after the academic transgressions and getting suspended/not playing for a year. Honestly, I think he never reached his potential at ND. I expected more frankly.

Best case scenario, 5th round grade and that's being optimistic. More than likely, he's a 6th or 7th rounder with good luck. His father having NFL ties can't hurt.
