I've been so pumped for the return of Keivarae Russell together with Cole Luke that I somehow overlooked how thin ND is at CB after those two guys. Are there any legitimate CBs who can play behind those guys? I'm worried that our defense next year could look a lot like this past year's if there are any injuries.

Watkins and Bulter.

Farley can play all positions but is probably best at nickel. His tackling improved a lot.

Crawford will also play early... ND appears to have six capable corners and two nfl draft prospects to headline that group... Shouldn't be a problem this year... Need 2016 to deliver a stud if Luke plays like I think he's going to.

Butler had sort of a horrible season though , beaten half the time it seemed.

They should be fine at CB. Russell and and Luke are studs. Watkins has people excited. Butler still has plenty of talent. Plus like 3-4 guys coming in that can play. Crawford, Coleman, and White are all very good prospects.

Crawford also played RB and is pretty good. He mostly ran to the outside.

Yeah, the staff seems more concerned with safety then corner.A lot of folks gave Heistand a hard time this year. Is it time to take a second look at safety cosch Bill Elliot? Can't seem to get stability back there and he don't appear to be a great recruiter. As for corners, We'll only have 3 in the spring? I'd be shocked not see any position shuffling.

Some position are stocked while others are bare. Wonder if we will play a regular spring game or offense/defense?

What type of cbs are you looking for good buddy.

Quality behind our starting 4 seems to be highly lacking along with depth. Weak area on team

I am pumped about Russell's return, should be one of the best corners in college ball.

However if Butler gets in then we'll be in trouble.

I fully expect Butler to improve greatly from this past season. Showed signs of a solid player as a frosh and his length is amazing. I think he will be one of the teams breakout guys next season.

I hope so man because he was a nightmare to watch this past season.

more like hung out to dry half the time...........

The secondary has potential to be great.

It also has potential to be a dumpster fire.

The two starting safeties have all the talent in the world, but both were benched at various points of the year.

The two starting CBs should be great to elite, but one hasn't played for a year, the other needs more consistency and as mentioned, there is ZERO reliable depth behind any of the 4.

If all 4 play to their potential and growth, there should be no worries and the defense should be really, really good.

If they show the same lack of consistency as this year, well, let's hope the offense can score in bunches.

Agree to disagree on the corner position. As long as Luke and Russell stay healthy I will not worry one bit about the corner position. I would actually go as far as to say, show me a better combo in CFB.

I brought this topic up at the start of this season but everyone seemed to think it was a non-issue. I'm still concerned that we will be relying on incoming freshman as backups at such a key position. I'll twitl my thumps and hope that none of our starters get injured.

I would agree they should be great.

But Russell won't have played in a year, won't have Spring ball to shake the rust and will never have taken a snap in the BVG defense.

I guess that's where most of our disagreement lies. I don't thin the time off will have the same level of affect as you do. I think he will be great from the get go.

Jeepers, is Farley a ninth year senior? I feel like I remember him having a solid game against SC in '05.

I think the time off affected Golson because quarterback is so much more mental than physical. Corner it's who's the better athlete and with all the time off to train I bet he actually comes in much better.

I kinda think those "rust" and "still learning the system" statements are used by the coaches to be kind to players who are falling behind.

Cody Riggs did OK and I don't think he was here for the spring.
