Every offseason I'm surprised by a couple position changes and I'm betting this year will be no different... So here are a few to watch for

1. Sam Mustipher G to NT - Unit is extremely deep this year, but if Jones, Day, Ishaq Williams and Okwara leave after next season... Mustipher could end up being a valuable contributor in his redshirt sophomore season.

2. James Onwualu WLB to SS - smart player who can play in the Farley role his final two - makes room for talented Bilal, Barajas and Martini

3. Nick Martin back to Center - wrist injury was a killer to his season...

4. Devin Butler to FS

5. Greer Martini to SLB - I could see a trio of Jaylon, Morgan, Martini... Schmidt and Grace are wild cards coming off their injuries

6. Drue Tranquil to WLB - will technically backup Jaylon...however in spread situations will play alongside Jaylon in a nickel capacity - I will be curious of what he retains in his speed and he may be able to add ten or fifteen pounds (get to 235) and he could play Mike linebacker in the modern college game

7. CJ Prosise to RB / slot - more or less than the position title, just an expanded role as a RB

8. Alex Bars to Left Guard - learns the ropes between Stanley and Martin... Could slide out to tackle in a year and allow classmate Quentin Nelson to slide into the LG spot

9. Jerry Tillery to Defensive Tackle - much as the same was said about Mustipher - Tillery's contributions are more targeted for 2017 and beyond - Position switch already made, but lists are always better in 10's

10. Johnny Williams to Tight End - too much raw athleticism... Physical specimen who is buried on a young DL and could find the field sooner at TE

Hmm, interesting take. My guess is one of the wideouts slip to safety or corner. Not sure who though. I wonder where Adams fits in. TE could be a fit, if he can catch or even outside linebacker.

By the way, these are my favorite threads. I love reading what others think where players will/should be.

Good thoughts da coach. With the Mustifer move, I'd be interested to see in the spring how some of the other kids play out at DT (Hayes, Mokuwah and we'll of course have Tillery).

With Jhonny Williams, if we get A. Jones in this recruiting cycle the TE chart looks pretty competitive too with Schultz, Luatua, Weishar. Jones and Heuerman.

I wouldn't mind seeing how Butler looks at FS. Would love to keep Tranquil at SS as it's nice to have a thumper back there.

Need a body at RB, so Carlisle makes sense moving back there, especially as Prosise has looked better in the slot.

I really think Carlisle looked like the more polished WR, Procise the better RB. Procise dropped a number of very catchable passes that could have changed games.

I agree. I think Amir has better hands and Procise did a better job with the jet sweep. I would expect either one to be able to step into the rb position, if needed though. Hopefully Folston and Bryant stay healthy and we have an effective 1-2 punch for the year taken care of.

CJ will work on that this off-season...he's going to be a great weapon for Malik to get the ball too!! Excited to see what will happen.

Am I the only one who thinks Corey Robinson should be moved to TE? Utilize him like the Saints use Jimmy Graham, i.e. doesn't block much just creates huge mismatch vs LB's downfield. Assuming Daniels is back, there would be more than enough to work with at WR on the outside.

Would love to see him moved to TE...

IMO he just doesn't have the speed for WR, But has more than enough for TE

I don't like the idea of CRob to TE. If... (and I say "If" with the greatest of hope), we begin to utilize/establish a more consistent running attack with a two TE set, I just don't see CRob being able to hold the edges. He diminished a bit at the end of the season. Not sure what happened there, but I like him at WR; especially in red zone. I hope he spends the summer working on his strength and speed. That size at WR is such a benefit in being able to screen off corners.

I don't like him at TE either, He blocks well for a WR and has invested 2 years at the position. If we were thin at tight end then maybe but he is our second best wideout. Why move him?

Speaking of Tight Ends, if Alize is Irish wouldn't suprise me is Mike Heuerman is moved over to LB. I kinda see Corey Holmes moving to defense as well. At best he's 8th on the WR. depth chart and if any of our 3 maybe four freshmen standout he could fall even further. I'm not even counting DD possible return. It would hold with the pattern of sending bottom guys to defense. Onwualu, farley, collinsworth.

5. I was really impressed with martini this year. think he could be really good, would love to see him win a starting spot.

6. would like to see him find a home on the field (is he a LB or S), to much talent to keep him on the sideline.

8. cant wait to see him develop, specially after BK said he's be best OL he's ever seen (or something like that).

10. I hope Williams stays on defense, think ND could use his skills on defense more than at TE. ND never seems to lack talent at TE.

I just can't see that. I think you'd need 5 guys at TE, with as much as we use double TE sets. Ultimately, if you move Heuerman, you're a single tweaked hammy from being unable to field a two deep at the position. With as much importance as we put on the position, I'd think we'd like to keep it stocked.

I don't see Tranquil moving from safety. We don't have any bodies there. I was even thinking they need to move Onwaulu there to get more bodies.

For the most part we played single TE this year. I think we were better using 2 and a possible H back though. I don't see Heuerman playing if he stays at TE. Moving would only help landing Alize. If someone gets hurt, you can move him back but it would still be for depth purposes most likely. You could also play a tackle as a jumbo TE.

For the record I don't see him playing much on D either.

Speaking of jumbo and position changes. I never understood why BK never gave Nix a try at fullback on goaline situations. Maybe because we were so thin there. Idk

for some reason it seems like we're always in shotgun in goal line situations

how often was Ohio St. in shotgun at the goaline?

I think Johnny Williams will be staying at DE now with the commitment of jones.
