The hardest thing to wait for as a College Football fan in my opinion is the development of Offensive Lineman.

Number 1 reason is they need a year in the weight room and some need even more to redistribute their weight and add strength.

Guys like Steve Elmer and Mike McGlichey played great against LSU. When you add that to a Healthy Nick Martin, hopefully a returning Ronnie Stanley, whoevers ready at Center, Hegarty did better the other day, the result is the payoff to our patience

Alex Bars and Q Nelson are waiting to make contributions.

I'll have to wait a full year for validation but I believe our line is now ready to be very good for a long time

A line that works together like this will forcast great things for the future, in my opinion.

Yes I wish Kelly would have been less stubborn this year. I think he put to much on Golson. The result was a state of panic that Everett could not function in. I think Golson's struggles ALLOWED Kelly to see the result of his stubbornness.

I think Kelly's the type of guy that has to learn from Failure. We all wish he woulda understood what he had in spring ball. Malik outplayed EG. So why not say both will play then and save Malik losing confidence? We'll never know.

But he seems to have got to the right conclusion after some time lost in the woods.

I think our patience started paying off against LSU and will continue to do so in to 2015!

ugh, we have so many ELITE tackles on the roster, I wish there were more Elite guards ready to play.

Nelson will play guard well for us, wait and see buddy, this is gonna be good now

I thought he was a tackle.

nope bars will play tackle. Nelson Like Elmer they'd prefer guard but of course at 6'5 325, he could do either.

gotcha, makes sense.

We ran a lot of power with much success in the bowl...

The play where Golson almost threw a pick was made to look like zone blocking and our line didn't pick up the right guys..

I'm wondering if old Harry knows how to teach proper inside & outside zone blocking schemes to college kids..

Our power schemes have always been more Effective under Harry. So I hear ya on that. Are you talking about the moonball that Fuller Caught, I'll freeze it and we can see what happened?

I know you don't like Harry which is fine. But I'd like to see if I can see what happened. Harry 's line definitely did a nice job for the most part against LSU

Yes go back and watch that moonball, then watch BK rip Harry's *** because we wiffed on two blocks on that play.

Is it that obvious that I don't like Hiestand? lol.

No surprise. Big Steve still has trouble with fast guys when he's going backward.

Elmer great run blocker, struggles in space some in pass protection

Elmer can down block on running assignments ok. He has trouble when it's his duty to peel off on zone runs and block LBs.

Is that when Elmer whiffed like he does sometimes and Golson almost broke his back?

If so, that was a scary throw and like the announcers said, we were very lucky that Fuller came down with that lob. Oddly enough, that play was HUGE because it kept us on the field and we eventually scored a much needed TD. But my God that was a scary scene. Elmer missed that guy, and he continued to get beat so badly at times it confuses me on whether he'll really be that superstar that we thought he'd be. He'll probably become a beast but he struggled at times this year, and struggled is putting it mildly. We do have a lot of great lineman though, and I think the line will be phenomenal from this point on, basically starting next year our line should be stocked.

NVM obviously it was that play after seeing the rest of the comments. That was unbelievable.

Nelson is a monster. He stood in front of where we was sitting at Lucas oil for the PU game and my wife said "my god who is that"? Looking back now she could have just thought he was good looking....:twitch:

well in every game their moments that help to define things. Fuller made a great play.

They were moving out on a bootleg protection that they executed a number of times after that,.linebacker was untouched and Golson needed a pain med injection after it.

However 263 yards, they certainly did a lot right. That's why I'm excited moving forward.

Yes I stated in another thread that our OLine played awesome against LSU and FSU.

I have no idea why or how we can turn it up against competition like that and get dominated by the likes of Purdue up front..

I Think that was back when we still had Elmer at Tackle. Then we flipped Elmer and Lombard. Then Mcglinchey replaced Lombard. So part of it is our guys got a month without bright lights and musical chairs..

Nelson will play guard well for us, wait andit's not ee buddy, this is gonna be good now

Yo Faith.

Is it possible for you to put what you are screencapping in the title? I know it's always possible but it would make them easier to find later.

And thanks for the breakdowns.

Do you think EG just threw the ball up and hoped someone would catch it or do you think he was trying to throw it away and just couldn't/didn't get it out of bounds. He was leaning back pretty far when he threw it.

I think QB's always roughly know where there receivers are to be. Look at that similar play Rees to Goodman in 2012.

That said he was probably aiming out of bounds over their heads and the hit took some off the throw IMO

On the moon ball to Fuller, McGlinchey admitted to bad communication and being responsible. This kid has had me excited since he committed and he is right on schedule to be one of the best offensive linemen ever at Notre Dame. Things didn't materialize as quickly as I had hoped this year, but this line is stellar right now and only going to be better next year if Stanley returns. Nelson will be tremendous at guard and Elmer is developing, a bit slowly, but will be very dependable next year. Great move to get him on the interior.
