Let's say Kelly leaves, were does that leave Notre Dame.

At this point i doubt we would be able to get a Elite Coach (Proven winner) eve if we opened up the wallet and made it rain...

IMO, i wouldn't want a middle of the road coach, I would want to bring in a young Hire that has shown he is the next Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh. A guy with Fire and passion that recruits are going to love his enthusiasm when he walk's into there living room and the locker room.

Here is a short list of guy's out there, feel free to add and coment. I really want to hear what you guy's have to say.

Rhett Lashlee Auburn OC

Matt Wells Utah State HC

Mark Hudspeth Louisiana-Lafayette HC

Matt Campbell Toledo HC

Joey Jones South Alabama HC

Mike Norvell Arizona State OC

Scott Frost Oregon OC

Geoff Collins Mississippi State DC

Pete Lembo Ball State HC

Doc Holliday Marshall HC

Kurt Roper Florida OC

I'll put aside names... and list qualities.

1. Passion.. Energy... Understands the emotional side of the games and 18-22 year olds.

2. Leader ... can inspire coaches and kids, holds people ACCOUNTABLE

3. Communicator ... strongly tied to leader, but you have to be able to reach wide audience for ND - players, alumni, administrators, sophisticated media

4. A demonstrated (college) expertise on half of the field - Off or Def... you have to be able to take control of the game, if needed. Kelly is not good enough, IMO, for offense... he can call a good game, if all the stars are aligned, but his system must be too complex.

5. Demonstrated track record ... you have to have been a consistent winner, at multiple levels and places.

5. Program Administrator ... ND is a complex beast. You have to know how to leverage the whole organization; Jack helps a lot, I imagine. Kelly aces this task - he deserves large credits for giving the program a sound organizational foundation.

If i look at this list, then only a few names (that we might be able to get) come to mind, for me...

1. Charlie Strong

.

.

.

2. Kirby Smart (although prefer more HC, haven't seen him before press)

3. Gus Malzahn (although prefer more HC experience, haven't seen him before press)

4. Mark Dantonio

5.

and who we would be unlikely to get

1. Bill Cowher (my dream)

and who we would never get

1. Saban

2. Meyer

Never understood why Gary Pinkel doesn't get more credit for what he's done in the SEC with 3star recruiting classes.

I agree with 1qa qualities, not sure who would be able to capture them all though.

My list of who I'd like to gauge interest:

Chip Kelly-guy is awesome offensive minded coach, needs good DC

Jon Gruden-good/great coach depending on who you ask, won a SB, been out of coaching a bit too long though

Art Briles-same as CK, needs better DC

Gus Malzahn-IMO guy is just a winner and really good off. minded coach, again maybe needs good DC

Kyle Whittingham-has done pretty good/decent job at Utah def is pretty good and off I believe is more pro/power type

I believe these guys all have pretty darn good credentials. Let's face it everyone is going to be debatable outside of Saban and Meyer. I would at least be gauging interest in a few if not all of these five.

I look at the first post and am amazed that its not a troll. That's how mediocrity settling our fanbase has become.

From a poster who talks a bunch of -----but never articulates a plan.

Your turn meat.

Who is your choice to coach ND and why and how does ND go about getting your guy?

So easy to throw rocks.

Speak up and be heard on your solution.

33, I understand the intent of your post however ND tried the up and coming once before with the out of the box Faust hire and most of us know how that ended. This job mandates so much more than coaching ability and leads to a job closer to that of a Micro Managing CEO. There are too many demands on the coach outside of the Gug and despite looking at a bevy of young, innovative hires, ND is forced to hire someone who has far more experience with the contacts to bring in staff with whom he's comfortable and confident in to delegate much of the day to day operation. The list Swarbrick surely keeps must be a short one because there are very few coaches in the country who can satisfy internal and external job requirements and why I think so many here always gravitate to the Gruden's, Stoops of the world. However back to your list, I've seen the coach from Utah St. appear quite often along with the guy from Memphis. I would rule out any of the coordinators due to the lack of HC experience but under the right circumstances, it could be a good formula to try an up and coming hire with the dynamic Assts. you reference. In any event, good thread starter and better than the old Let's Fire Kelly and who can we get to replace him! Happy New Year and GO IRISH!

My own personal list.

Off the top of my head.

Yes, please.

Ironically that was one thing that we loved about Brian Kelly at Cincy. It's unclear why our teams play so slow

My number 1 gripe with CBK. Even Alabama plays uptempo now...

It's not like he can use the old, "we played uptempo at Cincy because our defense couldn't stop anyone" excuse this season.

This not a Fire BK thread.... it's a if BK left one

I put down some choices and said that i would like to hear my fellow Domer's opinion's

If we are throwing out names of guys who have never been a head coach, then I'm adding Mike Mayock to this crazy list :)

+1 if it gets him off the NBC broadcast team.....and he has to take Flutie with him.

And that marble mouth Hines Ward!
