Maybe 20 years ago, but so did Jon Bon Jovi. He did the sountrack for young guns a movie about gangsters. In his gangster song he discussed guns and going out in a "blaze of glory". So yes, it is racist to critize an entertainers son when there are other celebrity kids on the team that are white and their fathers lyrics were embellished to appeal to an audience the same as Snoops. I don't even like Snoop and hate defending him, but Da coach's comments were ridiculous.

Agreed, Snoop today is what he is... He's not violent today, but when he was younger he did some stupid ish that is still being publicized to some level at his bequest. Nothing I used to describe Snoop's past was inaccurate or made up...it's the truth of what he has done as a part of building a music and entertainment empire. I'm not one to say what is right or wrong, I'm simply saying it's a bad mix with the ultra conservative university and culture.

 

How do I know Bon Jovi, Collinsworth, Golic, Fertitta, Robinson, Torii Sr, Clausen or any other celeb parent wasn't smoking herb, with a gun around "strippers" while at Notre Dame....really ? Well, I'm just gonna say this, they haven't been instagramming pictures of buds or tweeting links to porn videos - so at the very least I can say they are significantly less likely than Snoop. Call it an informed prediction..but I like to keep the former High Times Man of the Year away from the locker room. It's not to say pro football players don't smoke weed, but I don't think it enhances their performance and would assume keep that culture away from the locker room as much as possible.

 

And why not guns ? I guess the only problem I have is when they are used to proactively attack, rob, hurt or kill someone outside of self defense... The problem with your side of this is, the man made millions on phrases like "187 on a moths fckn cop"... I guess that is what I view as counter to the Notre Dame message and culture... You realize, this is a highly conservative catholic institution...right?

 

While I try not to speak in absolutes, hyperbole or say never... I learned that lesson from penn state... I feel pretty confidant in saying that no other parent has done so much to promote marijuana, produce porno movies nor was an influential member of a music scene that promoted violence and masogony - ever. If there was a Mount Rushmore of "gangster rap" Snoop would be on it. That culture and message is in direct conflict with the message and ethos of Notre Dame.

 

The university has kicked kids out of school for streaking for goodness sake...you think they are going to be cool when the Snoop brand gets attached to the one they have built ? They didn't want Obama to give a commencement speech because he campaigned as pro choice...the admin had a meeting with BK when Justin Brent went on his recent sexcapades ... I'm not saying it's a guarantee to be a problem or that there would be incidents of misbehavior, but the microscope and attention across the community would be even greater...thereby increasing the probability of an incident and expanded collateral damage.

 

Do you think this is a good fit for Notre Dame and Snoop's kid ? I know he can play, I bet he's a decent kid with a different ideology than his father, I understand his dad has gotten older and away from some of his past...but it is undeniable that with Son comes father's reputation. That kind of attention only draws negative attention...and is that something that would be good for the kid ? Who will likely end up at UCLA or USC because of a better cultural fit.
