Not all the kids coming to play football or "upper crust elite"

 

Also not sure there is much credence to this though but we will see what others think.

While I realize Notre Dame is tough to get into, I always thought it had the image of a blue collar work hard get there kind of school.

 

Just because a kid needs to be able to spell his or her name to sign financial aid does not make the school too elite or upper crust.

Yeah I remember watching that and hearing a couple of those guys saying how that didn't want anybody who wanted to he a banker or a lawyer on their team. Only tough blue collar guys. And I'm thinking well that is Notre Dame after Holtz right there. No wonder they get slaughtered by tough teams.

Not really. I'm perfectly willing to admit that I probably wouldn't have gotten into ND if my mom, grandpa, aunt, uncle, and cousin hadn't all gone there as well. A large percentage of ND students were legacy admissions like me.

 

Even among those who don't come from a family of ND graduates, most are from wealthy families and attended Catholic high schools with a solid academic reputation.

 

"Blue collar" students are still relatively rare, however the administration, to their credit, has made some honest efforts to change that in recent years.

I think every fanbase that find their team struggling feel the solution is getting some meatheads and the three yards and a cloud of dust mentality. I don't see Oregon as blue collar.

I've been saying this for years.

 

Meanwhile we mock the "dummies" at basically every other school but Stanford and a lot of those teams have Frosh playing all over the field.

Here's the real issue with this: Not one player on Bama or FSU has any wish to ever be considered "blue collar." They are there to play football and get into the NFL and drive a Mercedes etc.

 

This isn't to say that the fact that ND kids are actually going to class hurts there training for football, but it definitely isn't a white collar/blue collar thing.

Their entire lives are blue collar. They grew up in poor, tough neighborhoods.

BKs pass happy offense while distancing himself from the powerful running game and mauling OLmen that holtz had at ND would suggest yes ND is not blue collar.

The school has nothing to do with it. It's whether the program instills toughness or not. Would love for ND to run the ball more and play tougher D. That's on the coaches. Play calling on offense has been bad under Kelly. We need a real offensive coordinator.
