It's amazing to me how some people so soon forget. I distinctly remember the Holtz era and how after a couple of questionable seasons many were calling for him to get out. I remember thinking, "this guy took us to a National Championship and some people are calling for him to be fired". Over 20 years later and the guy has a statue outside the Notre Dame Stadium. If, IF we would have or could have beaten Alabama in 2012, Kelly would have one 20 years from now as well. Some of you want to replace this coach, a coach that took a lame duck QB and a freshman QB to an undefeated season and a NC. We had a great defense? Yes, we did have a great "bend but don't break" defense. This coach coached that team through the various landmines to a National Championship.

Do people not remember the free fall the Davie years were? Do they remember the fraud that was Tyrone Willingham? The same Tyrone that left here and went on to lose every damn game at Washington? And some of the absolute worst seasons in Notre Dame history that was the Charlie Weis era?

Brian Kelly may not be Saban or Meyer but he's a damn might better than our last 3! Through suspensions, attrition and injuries we are the youngest team in college football and he still threw up a winning season. A mediocre season? Sure but still a winning season. We are not going to get Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh or Gruden and I still think Kelly "get's it". Is Kelly the best we can get FOR NOW? I think so. You guys that want Kelly out, you might want to rethink what you wish for. I have no idea who would want to come.

I don't really want him out. I just know that the greats have their peeks. Was year 3 the best we can hope for, or will that level return? I'm willing to give him more time but if he's looking ever we should be too..

BK needs to go and needs to go now. He has worn out his welcome with all his excuses.

Tulsa was strike one...

The two point play was strike two...

better than the last 3 isn't really something to brag about.

I think it's bigger than wins and losses. even in the wins Kelly has made mistakes, and yet ND won despite the mistakes. how many close games has ND had with teams they should have blown out? IMO overall Kelly just has not done a good enough job.

Lou had ND as a title contender nearly every year after year 3.

Kelly did it once, in a somewhat flukey year .

Don't compare Lou and Kelly.

personnel decisions this year...strike three for me.

great maybe we can get a guy with the pedigree of Jim McElwain

I'll give him another year. If he can't win big next year he can leave. Our two deep will be loaded with guys that got experience this year so he won't really have any excuse to not light it up.

Speedster, at the end of the day it matters very little what anyone here thinks or wants.

BK has the support of the people who count and matter.

As much as people want to say "it's been five years and......" to start their argument against BK, the people who count say: "It's been five years of mostly unprecedented success with the last two seasons marked by incredibly bad luck from a suspension/injury front and an almost inexplicable amount of turnovers from the QB.

They, like reasonable fans, understand what this model looks like when it's humming and healthy.

I can't explain what happened to EG. I can only guess too much was asked of him. And I think/hope BK understands that and reverts a little more to 2012 when he took pressure off the QB with a punishing running game. The talent is there to make that adjustment.

All that said, none of it really mattered over the last few weeks of the season as the utterly young, inexperienced defense forced into action due to suspensions and injury was not capable of stopping even a pedestrian Division I offense.

Are you honestly trying to persuade any Notre Dame fan who has lived through the Holtz and Kelly eras that Kelly is anywhere near Holtz's stratosphere?

The tack that Kelly's better than Davie/Winnlingham Weis is the way to go, but we're nowhere near the program we were when Holtz went on his 2-year 23 game win streak and won a NC, which included victories over 9 Top 10 teams. Conversely, in his 5 years Kelly has only faced 6 Top 10 teams and is 2-4.

To paraphrase Holtz, this sucker isn't even close.

Unprecedented success?

Kelly has one 3 loss or fewer season.

Weis and Davie each had 2. Willingham had 1. Kelly's low hasn't been as low, but he has hardly done anything dramtically beyond what previous coaches have done. So far he has won big with Weis' guys and not managed 10 wins once with his team.

There's a whole new generation that apparently has no idea of Notre Dame's history. Unprecedented success my a$$.

Lou was let go for several reason and a lot of fans was glad to see him go at the time.

This kind of season happens to all coaches at some point in their career. The injuries and melt down by Golson are hard to explain.

The good news is that the people who count, knows football.

BTW, ND is still paying coaches with a contract. It gets very expensive.

Just my opinion, if there was one coach that would like to see replaced is Hiestand. With him, there are very few holes for the RBs and the pass rushers are all over the QB most of the time.

Right, but that was the end.

From 88 to 93-94, ND was a powerhouse of college football.

They were sort of that for 2012 under Kelly. He has a lot more top finishes ahead to be in the same league as Holtz.

losing 4 in a row and 5 of the last 6 games is unacceptable

after the most embarrassing loss on the biggest stage in 2012 BK called Alabama the "gold standard" and he acknowledged and tried to sell he had it figured out but since that beat down ND is 16-9

the more head scratching losses and disappointing seasons he has the further removed the program is from the 2012 good times

Agreed on all fronts.

Comparing Lou and BK is like comparing a Triple Crown winner to a plow horse. BK can only hope to be half the coach Lou was.

Yeah, staring with their 4th year it took Lou 5 years to get 9 losses.

Kelly only needed 2 years to get 9 more losses.
