November 22, 201410 yr Well, we have a couple people on here saying stuff like this is a good idea. It is decisions like this that not only give the SEC an advantage, but they are classless as well.
November 22, 201410 yr It's hard to feel sorry for these kids. They know the deal, they know it happens. Should have signed with someone that didn't make you wait for a spot. These kids have all the power and screw teams over constantly when they flip at the last minute. Edited November 22, 201410 yr by Irish Storm
November 22, 201410 yr Should have signed with someone that didn't make you wait for a spot. He hasn't signed with anyone you moron.
November 22, 201410 yr He hasn't signed with anyone you moron. Relax Francis. I meant committed and I'm sure you know that.
November 22, 201410 yr Relax Francis. I meant committed and I'm sure you know that. Your track record suggests never to make assumptions. On what planet do you believe it's a good thing that college football programs begin the practice of pulling scholarship offers at the last second on kids who have been committed for a good amount of time?
November 22, 201410 yr Your track record suggests never to make assumptions. On what planet do you believe it's a good thing that college football programs begin the practice of pulling scholarship offers at the last second on kids who have been committed for a good amount of time? I think it's wrong and a terrible thing to do. But this happens all the time in the sec and these kids know it. And yet they spurn programs from other conferences in order to grayshirting at an sec school so they can play 'big boy football'. That's why it's hard for me to feel sorry for them.
November 22, 201410 yr And yet they spurn programs from other conferences in order to grayshirting at an sec school. He didn't agree to grayshirt
November 22, 201410 yr Didn't kelly sorta pull mattingly's offer by ignoring him? Coaches do those.things sometimes, not just the sec.
November 22, 201410 yr Probably a good thing the kid doesn't go to Miss State. Mullen will jump ship for some other program now that his star has risen. Who knows... Maybe he will be Florida's new coach.
November 22, 201410 yr The things the NCAA decides to get in a tizzy over and what they turn a blind eye to are amazing. A scholarship is a scholarship and should only be nullified for grades or conduct, not performance or a shinier brighter recruit.
November 22, 201410 yr What's up with all the name calling lately? When did DD take this turn? Thank you. We don't need to agree but there's no reason to be uncivil.
November 22, 201410 yr Grayshirting should be abolished. This both gives an unfair advantage to schools that do this on a regular basis. Plus it is a total screwing of the student athlete. Just because kids know this happens doesn't make this any better. I would bet that this kid was told point blank by Miss State, "Don't worry kid, this will never happen to you; you're too good." Please don't imply that ND is even close to being one of the usual suspects.
November 22, 201410 yr I'm sure most of the people on here will go on ignoring this claiming this is just an SEC thing but my buddy's brother was slated to gray shirt at Purdue. He ultimately ended up putting on 40 lbs over the summer, starting as a freshman and making the NFL but still, he was originally GOING TO GRAYSHIRT IN THE BIG 10 (which, some of you will note, is NOT in the SEC).
November 22, 201410 yr I hear ya Pregame, and I agree. But the argument here isn't the concept of grey shirt. It's telling a kid one thing until the very last second, then pulling the rug out from under him. I know integrity is a "loose" word in the world of recruiting, but there is still a right and wrong way to conduct your business. What Mississippi State did to this kid is bush league and they deserve to be called out for it. I get it kids flip. But that is no excuse for head coaches and premier programs literally lying to teenagers then leaving them hanging at the last second.
November 22, 201410 yr A good friend of mine grey shirted at Wisconsin ... But he was a preferred walk on and never guarenteed a scholarship... The ones they offer scholarships to get them ... But walk ons are fair game.
November 23, 201410 yr Probably a good thing the kid doesn't go to Miss State. Mullen will jump ship for some other program now that his star has risen. Who knows... Maybe he will be Florida's new coach. I want to rape that chic in your sig.
