Was Quinn the secret to his success over the years???? He is still not hired anywhere right? If not, BK needs to look into this and goto being more of the CEO type coach. I also think Quinn would have told him how bone-headed a few of those calls were being as close as they have been over the years. Any opinions on this?

does he know how to prevent endless turnovers?

it is the only reason we are losing.

and we didnt make these mistakes in 2012.

This is a good theory. Kelly's offense has been scatter brained ever since Kelly came here and Quinn didnt. He may have been his secret weapon and I would like to get him.

I think that if Kelly had an OC he could do more of the "CEO" duties and Quinn could focus more on the fundamentals and specifics. Maybe BK is overwhelmed by trying to do it all by himself... I think he had Quinn for years and years, maybe he bit off more than he could chew.

I also think Quinn would have been in Kelly's ear about a few of those calls he made in the NW game. BK respects him so I think he would take criticism from him better.

Our 2012 offense is completely different than this offense. We were a protect the football (very frustrating at times if I remember right) type of offense. Now we are a high-octane, sling the ball all over, chunk play type offense.

There's nothing wrong with the offense except Golson turning the ball over. BK might have called a horrible game yesterday, but he's still one of the best offensive minds in CFB. As bad as yesterday was, the play calling and rhythm vs FSU was magic.

My point is that maybe BK bit off more than he could chew... we started off strong and yes looked great but maybe BK has worn down as much as our team has worn down. Maybe a Jeff Quinn around him wouldn't be a bad thing? Would you look at hiring Jeff Quinn as his OC a bad thing? The more I think about I hope he does.

Brain Kelly went for 2 when up by 11 points deep into the 4th quarter.

How is bringing in any coach going to solve that level or arrogance an stupidity?

No it's not, even with the turnovers, we are putting up 40 points. It's the fact that the D is letting the likes of Navy and Northwestern put up 35+ is the real reason we are losing.

To be assistant OC and coach the offensive line, sure. I don't think BK being the dedicated OC is the reason we are losing.

Our offensive line looks terrible and we need to get rid of Hiestand. They aren't helping EG out by letting guys in the backfield way too early on almost every down.

Our defense is running out of gas. BVG can't really afford to run his scheme since we are so thin and lean. It was sickening watching him play coverage yesterday but he had to with our injuries and who was in the game...

Are we putting up 40 points to our disadvantage though with our defense being so thin and young... that is what I am wondering. When you score quickly your defense is on the field more no? Makes me wonder if we would be better off trying to grind out some drives and take the time off the clock for our D to rest.

I think we should have given all 3 of our backs multiple carries in the NW game and run it down their throat. Eat up clock, wear them down, and let Golson loose in the 4th quarter when he seems to be his best. Now let me have it......

you are just throwing stuff against the wall after a loss. you dont know what happens now, you just see the end result. you dont know denbrocks duties or his talks with BK. and you dont know it will be different with someone else.

yes. but fumbles inside the five twice and a fumble by cam cost us the game.

Kelly's offense is putting up points (despite the TOs) but the inability to run the ball (and eat up some clock) is infuriating.....especially with guys like TF, and GB sitting there.

Anyone know if JQ knows what a running game is? I used to be very very big on getting Quinn here, but know I am thinking I just want an OC that has running plays in his play book.

TF just sitting there???

TF leads the team in carries with 132 .... nearly twice as many as Cam.

golson has 107 or so.

and i think we have more rushing attempts than passing attempts.

GB doesnt know what the hell he is doing out there half the time, and dances too much. that is why he isnt playing. if he was this game changer you think he is he would play.

He also used to be the OL coach, so I'm sure he knows his way around a run game.

He is saying ND has two 5* RBs, but is 69th in rush yards per attempt. Not that Folston isn't getting any carries.

If you think TF anf GB are being used properly, you know less about football than I thought......ESPECIALLY on a team that is struggling against inferior talent and turning the ball over so much.

...and please don't give me this "they can't pass block" excuse. I have seen true freshman play at RB for some of the "elite" programs, and they seemed to be able to block fine.

what has bryant done when he has played?

I would pound them 35 plus times a game when we are playing an inferior opponent in order to control the clock, help prevent Golson's turnovers, and keep our weak defense off the field.

A run game would do wonders for Golson, and allow him to make simple 1 or 2 man reads off play action.

brian kelly not afraid of running it over and over.

he did it in 2012.

we never run plays under center. maybe mixing that in could help?

I'm not throwing stuff at the wall after a loss... I am looking objectively at what is wrong with our team and made a suggestion that maybe the guy who spent 21 years as his right hand man through every coaching job except this one might have a little bit more of say in how the offense is run.

You're right, I don't know if it will be different but that isn't for me to worry about. If BK pulls a loss like this every year he will be the one worrying because he will be on the hot seat and eventually out of a job. I like BK don't get me wrong but losing to ASU and FSU I can live with but not losing to Northwestern in our house.
