Can ND ever be elite again or have.they gone the way of the indy 500, horse racing, boxing, etc?

Nope, ND will never be elite again. How does that make you feel Irish Storm?

If by some miracle an NFL team hires Kelly after this year, Dan Mullen. Mullen has very strong ties to Notre Dame, has coached on two championship teams under Meyer, has worked magic at Mississippi State, can recruit, and understands Notre Dame's culture. It won't happen but it would be a great hire. He'd win a title within 3 years.

Sad and mad. Sad because I remember what ND football used to be. Mad because I think the administration is fine with that as long as they win 8 or 9 games a year, graduates their players and the money keeps coming in.

I would take Mullen, he's a step up and has taken Mississippi state from bottom feeder to contender in the toughest conference. I just don't think top coaches wanna come here or else we wouldn't be getting goofballs like weis and Kelly. Those guys will never get bigtime jobs after nd and didn't have them before either.

Weis was a great nfl oc and Kelly built his resume beating up on the sisters of the poor in the big least.

If Mullen was indeed receptive to coming to South Bend, Swarbrick should be looking into this, Kelly while a good coach is never going to get us to the promised land, we have the same problems year after year, things will never change under Kelly. A total home run hire would be Jim Harbaugh, but that's just a pipe dream. At least thinking of these coaches gives me optimism for the future, so down on Kelly right now.

Gary Anderson from Wisconsin. There is no reason why nd should not be able to line up and maul 75% of their schedule year in and out, rushing for 500+ yards. The beauty of a great running game is that it is much more dependable than a passing game.

Supposedly when Kelly was interviewing for the eagles, the first coach who Swarbrick called was AL Golden. What do you guys think of him?

He wouldn't be my first preference, but I do think he is a solid coach.

Kelly is not leaving for the NFL

Kelly will not be fired for winning 8+ games a year

If you don't like Kelly, it might be time to pick a new team

The End

I truly believe ND is going to have to get lucky with their next hire. Harbaugh was at SDST when Stanford hired him, Urban was at Utah when Florida hired him. ND is going to have to get lucky and hire the next big thing in coaching in order to take the next step.

That what they were hoping with hiring BK

Is it possible that he learns from his mistakes & adjusts his coaching & turns the program? I feel it's too soon to oust him

Sure...

in 2010, he finally adjusted after the slap in the face that was Tulsa, and started using his big running backs more against Utah and USC

but is that what we want? A coach that needs to have his back against the wall to finally see the light?

Hicks and Flutie were actually mocking about the fact that ND could control the game if they were to run more but "that's not the kind of guy Kelly is".

On a side note..... Flutie sucked!

Kirby Smart.

You are spot on about Kirby Smart being a great defensive coach. While Alabama's track record (while obviously Nick Saban deserves so much of the credit for that) speaks for itself, I think its tough for any coordinator to come in to Notre Dame and learn how to be a head coach.

I actually thought Flutie did alright, but it might be because he was straight up honest with his comments. He all but called CBK a dumbass with how he handled the game. His speech could use some polishing, but I prefer him over Mayock.

Will muschamp.

This is why Kelly isn't on the hot seat. Being a coordinator and running a program are two completely different things. Especially when you're a coordinator at a place that runs a dirty program.

How's that Bama coordinator working out for you Michigan?

You can't learn to be a head coach at nd.

And the sad reality is that I'm not sure anybody can win big at nd anymore. I think when the administration decided to de-emphasize football and increase the standards that led to Holtz leaving, this killed the program forever. As everybody says, what fop coach would want to come here? Even Urban Meyer turned us down to take the florida job. The program has been reduced to Nostalgia and it's a damn shame.

As long as they win 8 or 9 games a year and graduate and the money keeps rolling in, the administration will be content.

If they're not committed to winning a NC, then they should quit pretending and just join a conference. That way there's a tangible goal every year. Winning your conference. As it stands right now, ND is working against national perception, luck, and themselves. Eliminate the first 2, and everybody has something to look forward to. At this point, I don't know what the end goal is this season. Which bowl is considered a success? Seriously.
