November 16, 201410 yr Yeah, that was a head scratcher and I was wondering what the rationale for that move was.
November 16, 201410 yr I hope Kelly doesn't take credit for that one because that would be one more to a long list of bad decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if we see guys like Bryant, Redfield, and a few others transfer after this year. Just seems like to me he's lost this team.
November 16, 201410 yr I'm 40 plus and overweight and I don't think drue can handle me in the flat. I know we are thin at safety but drue looks like he could be a good LB'er.
November 16, 201410 yr Why was Collinsworth playing lol? He's worse than Drue, and he's playing hurt smh.
November 16, 201410 yr ...and Shumate may be worse. His poor tackling turned 10 yard gains into 40 yard gains. As a two deep safety he let receivers get behind him. He played terrible. We are in deep S$it when it comes to safety play.

November 16, 201410 yr USC is going to gash us. Northwestern gashed us, USC is going to... I don't know something way worse than gash haha
November 16, 201410 yr Same **** different day with usc. They can hang with anyone for a half. That decimated roster shows up in the fourth quarter. With that said, being at the asu game, I'm not sure the television showed just how atrocious max redfield played. He was playing like a high schooler. I was shocked at how bad we were. And just qualify that statement - maybe he's not mentally into it right now? Maybe there are distractions. Or maybe he's trying too hard and thinking too much. I don't know what the issue is, because he has plenty of talent, but not being able to even take proper pursuit angles goes beyond football intelligence. Edited November 16, 201410 yr by KamaraPolice
November 16, 201410 yr So he had a bad day. As bad, as say, a stretch where you have 19 turnovers in 7 games? See where I'm going with this?
November 16, 201410 yr So he had a bad day. As bad, as say, a stretch where you have 19 turnovers in 7 games? See where I'm going with this? Yep. But you're using a bad example because who knows the offense better than Golson? Where as you can argue redfield doesn't get it on defense and that's why he's not playing. Again, some of his mistakes lead me to believe he's not playing with any instincts at all right now. Is the blame on vangorder? Is his defense too complicated? I honestly don't know just how complicated the scheme is vs. someone like diaco's, but diaco didn't want to play young guys for exactly these reasons.
November 16, 201410 yr By the way, did any catch the look on redfield's face coming off the field after the game? He had it written all over his face how disgusted he was. He's a smart guy, he'll turn it around.
November 17, 201410 yr Yep. But you're using a bad example because who knows the offense better than Golson? Where as you can argue redfield doesn't get it on defense and that's why he's not playing. We don't know how much or little MZ knows as far as the offense is concerned. I DO know EG is turning it over at basketball rates, FOR MULTIPLE GAMES NOW. Max Redfield had ONE bad game, from what we know, and he's on the bench? I'm simply saying that CBK seems to have different standards for different players. If Tranquil starts again, it'll REALLY be a head scratcher, because he didn't play well. CBK keeps talking about ball security and taking care of the football, but it's really been ONE GUY who's the problem. Do I think EG is a garbage player, no..... but he might need a little benching himself.
November 17, 201410 yr Crazy all the way around. EG turns it over at an epic rate and nothing done. Cam blows a huge protection and fumbles, and nothing happens. Greg Bryant does one thing and hardly plays. Drue got beat over and over and over, and stays in the game. Its funny how some are held accountable and others are not. I know it is from the outside, but crazy times. Looking at it right now this is a lost season, how we are playing over the last 3 weeks how are we going to beat louisville or USC? We most likely are not. This season has turned out be be horrific. I hope I am wrong, but Navy basically figured us out and almost beat us. ASU whooped us, and NW not a good team and the marched on us like it was nothing. So, we are in huge trouble. Not only in record, but looking at keeping recruits. Seeing us degrees is very concerning. I hope I am terribly wrong, but looking at what has happened consistantly over the last 3 weeks shows me I may not be wrong.
November 17, 201410 yr Is the blame on vangorder? Is his defense too complicated? I honestly don't know just how complicated the scheme is vs. someone like diaco's, but diaco didn't want to play young guys for exactly these reasons. I don't think the defense is too complicated. But I do think there's positions that require more experience and football knowledge than others. those to me are MLB/WLB/S. I would say we're either failing or marginal on all these players right now. The players we have just need more experience at the position, more film, more playing. The benching we saw was just a small piece of that....
November 18, 201410 yr I thinking we are missing Joe a whole lot more than we thought. I think you're partially right, the defense has looked confused a lot pre-snap. However, he was still on the field vs UNC and most of the Navy game. Flat out, the defense has missed an obscene amount of tackles, that's why they've been so awful.
November 18, 201410 yr Blah blah blah... Redfield - fix whatever needs fixed to get back on field... Tranquill is a freshman...playing beyond expectations but still a freshman... youngest team in the country atleast on D... Can't expect freshman to compete against 4th and 5th year seniors... O needs to fix the turnover problems... Go Irish...
