It made absolute sense at the time.

 

The real bottom line is guys need to hang onto the ball and the defense needs to get some stops.

Yeah, that pretty much set up the tie and therefore the loss. That's a mistake a Pop Warner team might make. That decision just made ND a laughingstock. And rightly so.

The chart was for the 2-point conversion. The math was for taking a knee. Double whammy. Expel him.

BK will NEVER admit being wrong. He is way too cocky..

Going for 2 was inexcusable. Especially the way Kelly tried to explain it. He basically said he had lost confidence in the kicking game, then he lets Brindza try a field goal in the 4th and he puts the game squarely on his right toe in overtime. It's bizarro world.

 

What upsets me the most is they have to have somebody else on the sideline who practices kicking extra points during the week. Unless, of course, Kelly has a crystal ball that allows him to know his kicker will never get hurt (or in this case have one of "those kind" of games). I don't care if he's a third string tight end, there has to be somebody on the team that can kick an extra point.

 

Or, if Zaire was the problem, replace him for Pete's sake.

 

This 100% boils down to coaching. All of the Kelly apologists can run to his aid, but how much simpler can the game get than kicking an extra point. A team that can't complete this fundamental task in football is obviously not well coached in that area.
